Class 6 have been learning about electricity. Today we learnt about simple switches and had a go at putting these into a circuit. We used foil switches and worked out how to get a light to turn on and off and then we challenged ourselves to make a doorbell using buzzers. Everyone was so successful at this we even had a go at making our own switches using a paper clip and split pins. Wow Class 6! You have impressed me so much today with your Science skills. Tomorrow is Roald Dahl day so today Class 6 focused on this brilliant author. We discussed his books and which ones we all liked before looking at Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As a class, we thought of adjectives and similes to describe Willy Wonka. We wrote some wow words on our display they we wanted to use and then everyone used these to write a description of Willy Wonka. I am so impressed with everyone's description, well done Class 6! Take a look at Ben and Gracie's brilliant writing. Posted with Blogsy Continue reading

This week Class 6 have been introduced to our Science topic, electricity. We thought about what we already know about electricity and how we keep ourselves safe around it. Then all the children were given a battery, 2 wires and a bulb. They were all given the challenge of working out how to light the bulb up. Success! Well done Class 6 you all worked out to make a circuit and get the bulb to light up. Posted with Blogsy Continue reading

After a week of waiting, today Class 6 were able to open the jars and look at the eggs from last week's experiment! Last week we put hard boiled eggs in jars with different liquids to see what happens, we used: milk, blackcurrant squash, water, orange juice, coca cola and vinegar. We wanted to see what damage could be done to our teeth with different liquids, in this experiment the egg shell shows what happens to the enamel on our teeth if we do not clean them properly. Milk Blackcurrant squash Water Orange juice Coca cola Vinegar I think this experiment has definitely shocked the children in Class 6 and made them think about what drinks to drink. We also realised the importance of making sure we clean our teeth properly. Posted with Blogsy Continue reading

In Science, Class 6 have been thinking about tooth decay. We have talked about what causes it and how we prevent it from happening. Today we have set up an experiment to find out which drinks can cause the most damage to our tooth enamel and lead to tooth decay. We have put an egg in each jar and then put milk, blackcurrant squash, water, concentrated orange juice, coca cola or vinegar in each one. Next week we will find out which was has caused the most damage to the egg shell acting as tooth enamel. Which one do you think? Posted with Blogsy Continue reading

Today Class 6 became business bosses, they were pretending that they have created a new product and they had three potential adverts to choose from. Everyone needed to think about the features in an advert: exaggeration, questions, snappy slogan, adjectives, word play and descriptions of benefits. They needed to judge each advert on these features before deciding on the one that they think would make the best advert for their company. The winning advert was: Posted with Blogsy Continue reading
