I am so tired of hearing about bacon. Look, I get it. You like the taste of bacon. You'd eat bacon for every meal. You'd eat it in ice cream, on donuts, and in chocolate. Any food in which bacon has not been a traditional ingredient for more than 10 years, you would definitely be game to put bacon up in there and eat it. Now, for full disclosure, I don't eat bacon or any meat. But this isn't about a meat/not meat thing. I'd love to hear about some new kind of sausage. I enjoy watching cooking shows where... The iOS Settings app is a real mess. I could probably write a few dozen posts for it alone, but I ran across this again the other day and thought I'd note it. If you're traveling about and need to update your iPad's (or iPod touch) time and time zone,... Continue »

Wow. They say each birth is different but I think we got quite the example of that. It took me several days to piece together what happened, as I emerged from somewhat of a twilight zone, recovering from surgery, but holding a healthy beautiful girl. It's been taking time to emotionally process too since in many ways we are very lucky everything turned out alright - perfect baby, and although mama is scarred up, I should heal completely - but it was a rather scary experience. Let me recount. First, with Tesla, I started labor at night, and was home... Continue »

It was odd following @nytimes today, as they traded their headline bot for two editors staffing the account, hand-crafting the day's tweets. While I appreciate the hypothesis (actual humans will drive more engagement) and the methodology of the experiment (they're... Continue »

My mindset from the start was to give the people what they want, but not in a way they were expecting. That meant that I knew that I wanted to expand the issue from just photos and text to add... Continue »

As we announced here, the newest ThinkUp beta adds an API to the app for the first time, allowing developers to easily build apps on top of JSON data coming from ThinkUp. I thought it'd be fun to try building a hack with the new API, so I made a simple visualization of your entire Twitter archives in ThinkUp — ThinkBack, a ThinkUp-powered time capsule. Take a look at my history, or on the @whitehouse account to get the gist. ThinkBack analyzes your entire Twitter history, extracts entities from the text, and colors them based on category. Grouped by month,... Continue »

SAY Media has this tradition (I later learned that this was actually a national event of some sort) of welcoming employee's kids to work for a day, so of course I brought Maelys in, so that she understand a little... Continue »

OK, so I have some news to share with you. Today, April 22nd, is my last day at SAY Media. Including 2 years at SAKK and 4 years at Six Apart headquarters in 548 4th street, this has been an incredible venture and terrific experience for me to work with all of smart people on numerous exciting projects, but I figured it's time to move on. I should have a lot to write, but instead i'll dump some memorable pictures :) Man, that's a lot of memories. I'll send everyone a big hug and thank you for making my days at Six Apart/SAY so much fun! P.S. I'll take a quick vacation next week, and will start a new gig... Continue »
