These posts about your acting process have been really interesting. Was this something you were taught in classes or did you develop this on your own during the years you've been in the business? I really appreciate all the effort you take in making the unbelievable and fantastic so real and present.
Acting is about communicating and I see how I can use what you've written to help me communicate to others more effectively and how to give more thought into what exactly I'm trying to convey in a particular situation. Thanks!
on the delivery of technobabble
I was in three scenes yesterday, one of which contained a massive amount of technobabble. For those who don't know what that is: on a sci-fi show, technobabble is what we call pseudoscientific dialog like "I'll have to run a level four diagnostic on the antimatter inversion matrix to be sure." I...
Wil, I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember reading your story back in 2001 about how Anne went a different way home and found a dog, and how Ferris got her name. I've loved all the stories and tweets you've written about her since then. My thoughts are with you and your family.
through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
My dog Ferris, who was rescued from a bus stop in Monrovia by my wife Anne almost exactly 8 years ago, had a heart attack and died this morning. It happened very quickly, and I was with her, which is supposed to make me feel better, but at this moment all I can feel is nearly-unbearable sorrow, ...

I loved it! Saw it at 7pm Thurs at an IMAX and boy, the Enterprise looked amazing. Strangely, I seemed to be the only one cheering at the screen. I don't know if that means the audience was too polite, or they didn't want to make any noise so they wouldn't miss the dialog, or if they were offended at the non-canon moments.
I thought it was a fun romp and was happy to see all the characters have their moments. Karl Urban was a great McCoy. He's a long time Trek fan and it's great when actors get a chance to pay homage to something they love. And Simon Pegg as Scotty was a hoot.
I know Trek fans could point their fingers at the non-canon and the non-Trek audience could ignore it just because of the Trek label. But here's hoping both parts of the public embraces the movie.
And, that photo? Er, you look rather manic and possessed. Let me cross the street here...
If all reboots were done this well, we geeks would never worry about reboots.
Between work and meetings, I'll be AFK for most of today, but this is important enough to warrant its own quick entry until I can write something more in-depth later today: I went with Chris Hardwick and his girlfriend to see Star Trek last night. Speaking both as a member of the Star Trek famil...
I wasn't emailed a receipt, so I don't know if Lulu really knows I want your book. I can only see my order status online. I don't know how to connect my order to paypal to pay for the book. Maybe it does think I paid by eCheck although I don't think the way I pay is set up that way.
I suppose I could do a screen cap of the online order if you really want it.
This company looks to be very geared to authors. I didn't find it very consumer friendly with the lack of buyer faqs and little information about order troubleshooting.
I've submitted a problem ticket. I'll see what response I get. I might be internet-less this weekend, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

sunken treasure goes on sale
As promised, Sunken Treasure is now officially on sale! I have created two editions, a US Edition and a World Edition. They are identical in content, but the World Edition is in a slightly larger format, so it's $2.00 more. The trade off is that you don't have to spend a million dollars on shi...
Hi, Wil. My order status is Waiting_Funds. I paid with PayPal, at least the order says I did. The site says Note: If you pay by eCheck on PayPal (directly from a bank account), it will take 3-4 days for your eCheck to clear and for the status of your account to show Paid. I don't pay by eCheck, I pay by credit card via paypal. So I don't know what's wrong. I think lulu didn't connect to paypal correctly. I can't find where to send a note about this. Sigh.
So, can I still get that bonus download? I'm really trying to buy your book.

Wil, I see your friend John Scalzi is now a creative consultant on the upcoming series, "Stargate Universe". After being a recurring guest star on both the original Stargate SG-1 and the spin-off Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek: Voyager cast member Bob Picardo was added to the main cast in the last season of Stargate Atlantis.
I think Stargate needs to have a visit by another Trek alumni.

more work in progress
This is from the Coming of Age review I've been working on: Obligatory Technobabble: “With this new extricator, sir, we could eliminate three more bulky machines from cargo space.” – Riker, explaining how, even though Picard says it isn’t possible, there really is room for a Foosball table in th...
Merry Merry and Happy Happy to you and yours, Wil, and to all your blog readers.
happy winter festival of your choice
We celebrate a non-religious, minimally-commercial version of Xmas here in Wheatonland, and the 2008 installment is awesome. Whatever you choose to celebrate this time of year, I hope it's filled with all the stuff you like, none of the stuff you don't like, and that you're surrounded by peopl...

Yay! I'm glad you'll be at SDCC. It's my first time at this con. Now there's at least one person I know attending. I can buy copies of your book for my friends without paying postage for each. Although I'm going to have to lug them on the plane in that second suitcase I have to pay $50 to use ($25 each way). 8^(
For this just over 2 weeks vacation, I should just stuff everything into one suitcase on the outbound leg and include a duffle bag. Then on the way back, I'll put all the nonbreakables/ok-to-squashables into the duffle and put the more delecate stuff in the suitcase.
Maybe I should mail back my clothes. I wonder if they weigh less than $25 postage.
Some of us don't get twitter on our gotta-pay-for-text phones. If there's a meet-up, can you spread the news so that all of us can get it?
See you soon!
it turns out that i get to go to comic-con after all
I've been going crazy the last month or so, trying to figure out a way to go to Comic-Con. It was about as easy as getting the Babel Fish, but I refused to give up, and earlier today, I finally put the junk mail on top of the satchel. I am actually going to Comic-Con this year! I'll be there fro...

What?! You aren't going to make it to SDCC? Damn, I was looking forward to seeing someone I know. This will be my first, and probably only, SDCC. I know absolutely no one since I'm from the East Coast and nobody I know is going. I had such angst trying to find anyone to share the cost of my "expensive but it was all I could find" room.
And I'm not even a comic book person (gasp!). I'm going for the media hype. And to say I've been to the SDCC at least once in my life.
My airfare just went up $50 since the airlines are now charging $25 for a 2nd checked suitcase. I'm taking some vacation along with going to the con and I can't go on a 2 1/2 week trip with just one suitcase! I was hoping to add some additional copies of "Happiest" to my "need it for souvenirs" bag.
Since I won't be seeing you, I guess I'll let you know here that I was at the the Philadelphia Wizard World and met Art Baltazar and Franco of "tiny titans". They say "Hi, remember us? We took a photo together." I requested Franco to draw Aqualad and I was going to get you to sign it. Yeah, I know you're the voice of Teen Titan Aqualad, but it's close, right?
I hope someday our paths will cross again. Take care.
2008 geek tour updates (with an update)
This is how the GeekTour ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper. Bad news, everyone: I'm not going to San Diego Comic-Con. I was planning on attending with TokyoPop, and when they laid off a ton of staff (including my editor, which made me sad) they also pulled out of Comic-Con. There is a very sl...

Wil, I sent out the link to some friends and they really loved it. One person even said it was the best thing ever. Another thought your voice was familiar, but didn't recognize you until the ending credits.
And, sorry for another off topic, but director Joespeh Pevney passed away. He directed some of the best Trek episodes, like "The Trouble with Tribbles" and "The City on the Edge of Forever".

Sorry for so many posts, but I just found out that actor Stanley Kamel has passed away. He was best known lately as the psychiatrist on Monk. He was also in the Next Gen episode, "Where No One Has One Before" (where we first met the Traveler) as Kosinski, the propulsion expert.
Mr. Kamel was the kind of character actor that enriched any production he was in. He was always so real. You never thought he was playing a part.
Mr. Kamel starred in "The Urn", a movie that had a limited engagement release just last month in L.A. Trek alumnus Armin Shimerman appears in the film. You can see clips of the movie here.

Forgot to ask: Wil, why isn't there a media kit for Happiest Days? I don't like making my own promotional material because I don't want to misrepresent you. Even when someone gives permission to make fan promotional items, I make sure to put somewhere that it's fan created so people don't think the actor made it up since I'm pretty awful in designing anything.
I copied your flyer for Dancing Barefoot and distributed them at several conventions, but I haven't been able to that with your latest book.
