It's getting very close, my taking the Welsh Government to court for nepotism. I've detailed here a long running debate with tourism officers, web site maintenance staff, area tourism managers and those senior staff who work in shiny offices in Cardiff and are tasked with 'regeration'. This shot was taken on a guided hill walk led by Andrew Lamb of Wales Outdoors. The path is known as 'the shepherds path' and skirts the northern face of Cribyn. You can see the slopes of Pen y Fan in the distance. Continue reading

Not really - the pic is from 2012 Cardiff World Naked Bike Ride - This years event is on the aftternoon of Saturday 15th June - you all ought to come along - last year there were 150 naked riders. It's the most fun you can have on a bike :) Naked, nude, birthday suit cycling, riding a bike with it all hanging out, through Wales capital - go on, you know you want to :) And, it's a protest ride in favour of greening travel and making city cycling safe... We are thirty minutes from Cardiff and Swansea and an hour from Brecon. We run coasteering on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. Wales Outdoors are the nearest to Cardiff coasteering provider and have been running coasteering longer than all other South Wales adventure activity companies. We ensure appropriate footwear, all kit is new this season and we work with a minimum staff to client ratio of 1:8, usually 1:6 Continue reading

This is really dreadfully shameful and reminds us at Wales Outdoors very much of those stories involving social workers and police and care workers and whistle blowers and a dead child. The dots never seem to be joined up by the authorities even when they are being screamed at. They always seem to act too late. Continue reading

We at Wales Outdoors think that this is very important - getting people out of their cars and into the saddle and applying pressure on the great and the good to develop cycling networks to rival those fantastic paths and tracks beside our European neighbours roads... We are fairly backward when it comes to cycling provision you know... Just consider this, there is no cycle route between the Newport and Cardiff - that is verging on criminal negligence on the part of the authorities... Anyways, please read and act on the following Guardian article... Continue reading

Not that we're all about blowing our own trumpets, never could manage the pursed lip thing, but we have had a lovely mail from a client of a couple of weekends back, the stag party that stayed in the tipi's, went surfing and had archery and mountain boards too... This is what they had to say... Continue reading

I've never been one to respect land ownership - I think that all land, over and above a reasonably sized private garden, ought to be in the public domain - a freedom to roam policy. Continue reading

As is usual at this time of the year, we have updated our activity calendar and made available adventure activity days that are suitable for inividuals or couples to join. It's simple really - we usually have a mnimum fee of £180 for a day long activity. This covers staffing, kit delivery, insurance etc. A bit pricey for one person we think. Continue reading

Well, this weekend Wales Outdoors was rather busy... I had a Hen Party to deal with near Cardiff on Saturday morning then I mad a mad dash north to pick up Becky from Nelson and on to Dinas Rock to meet up with a new instructor, Lawrence, and a Stag Party group. We went Gorge Walking. And man! It was cold :) But I like the cold water, it refreshes and a quick chill means a quick warm up, so no damage done. Continue reading

WALES OUTDOORS say 'don't respect the landowners that restrict access to the high places of the UK, to the rivers, to the coastline. The land is ours! May the spirit of Kinder live on...' In April 1932 over 400 people participated in a mass trespass onto Kinder Scout, a bleak moorland plateau, the highest terrain in the Peak District. Continue reading

A couple of weeks back I was called by the BBC Newsdesk who were after a comment regarding Powys County Councils decision to fund a re branding if the Brecon Beacons. We at Wales Outdoors need to check te waves, check the swell, check the surf when heading out to the beach. There are a raft of different websites and services. In the main we tend to log into Magic Seaweed, a rather easy place to spot whats happening on any particular beach. Here's what they say about the UK's varied coastline Continue reading
