I'm a huge fan of Cruella, but I have to admit the Evil Queen gets my vote for favorite Villainess.

Thanks everyone for commenting! I'm so glad to see people discussing this issue! A couple of specific replies back: Kim - yes, value exchange is a great way to frame it! Liz - you're right, the issue of paid posts is still a hot topic. Glad you're keeping the conversation moving! Susan - yes, the more it changes, the more it stays the same. Sometimes I wish we were just making brochures, or something that people already understand the value of doing. But what fun would THAT be? Angie - you did a GREAT job on the Root Candles promo, obviously putting a lot of thought and effort into it. Cheers to Root Candles for never questioning why we needed to compensate you and the other bloggers for your time!

Photo: Kin Ho Today the internet is buzzing with the shocking news that fashion designer Alexander McQueen is dead, at 40, of an apparent suicide. From Huffington Post: McQueen was born in the East End of London on March 17, 1969. His father was a taxi driver and as a child he made dresses for his three sisters. As a teenager he apprenticed on Savile Row before attending Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. It was his graduation collection that caught the eye of influential stylist Isabella Blow. The two became fast and dear friends until Blow committed... Continue reading

Hey, Gwen Stefani turned 40 back in October, and we were too busy to wish her a 40 whatever birthday, so here it is now: We love Gwen because: She's cool, and writes catchy songs, and seems like she'd be fun to hang out with to watch movies, and read magazines. While drinking sparkling wine. She was raised Roman Catholic Italian. She knows from Christ! And Mary! She wears a ton of makeup even during the daylight hours and always looks fantastic. Gwen is living proof that you can wear a heavy eyeliner and strong lip at the same time... Continue reading

Alright, alright alright, 40's lookin' pretty good to someone! Yep, Matthew McConaughey, famous for his golden guns, tanned abs and "shirt allergy" turns 40 on November 4th. There are plenty of ladies who love M-Squared, but he's an even bigger hit on the Bromance Circuit. What is it about "Mattias" that makes grown men swoon? Is it because they all want to be him, with his bar-hopping, bongos and body odor? Perhaps. Do you suppose it's because he's living the dream, getting paid to surf, impregnate his pretty wife Camilla, and do four hours of yoga and situps on the... Continue reading

Turning 40 has been all about my boobs. Partly because (in the words of my adoring husband) I'm getting "sluttier" as I get older, and "finally" bringing them out more. The other part is that when you turn 40 you're supposed to "finally" schedule your a baseline mammogram -- unless you've been unlucky enough to have to go sooner. My number came up in May. Actually, the Nice Nurse Practitioner in my Mean GP's office handed me the paperwork for my baseline mammogram last fall. Yeah, a year ago. I let the paperwork sit there for 12 months because I...
