Just a small nitpick: The "green bar" you speak of is actually a UI bonus from the use of extended validation certificates -- the certs that are immensely expensive.
The certs /normal/ people buy don't provide that same UI bonus. For example, https://labs.chevronwp7.com is secure but shows no color in IE9 and barely hinted in Chrome.
