Like so many others here, I want to say Happy Blogiversary and thank you!
I had planned to make it to PAX this year with my copy of Memories, even booked the time off work right at the beginning of the year, but we ended up buying a house instead. Damn growing up and being responsible :P
Anyhoo, I didn't find your blog until maybe just a year or so ago, but like others I felt like I knew you after re-reading some of the older posts. Yours is also the only blog I follow, and also follow on Twitter, but not sure about this Google+ thing :P
Real Message after rambling: Thank you for all your hard work and for all the bursts of laughter and heart felt moments.
Yours Truly,
Coral D. now

So, while I'm putting together the last few things I need to take to PAX, I realized I forgot to mention something: ten years ago yesterday, I started my blog at WWdN*. Ten years ago today, Metafilter declared that it was "lame,"** and most of the Internet was really shitty to me about the whole...
Other comments already said this, but:
Yay, technobabble!!
and
Comment about sleeping on the wrong side of the bed was so sweet!
Also, the comment about another RFB was a very good idea *wink wink*
two hundred words before six in the morning
When the alarm went off at 5am, I wasn't sure where I was. I mean, I knew I was in bed, but I was on the wrong side of the bed, and why was I awake when it's still dark outside? After a few seconds, my brain finished booting up and I remembered that I am in Vancouver, I sleep on the wrong side o...
I haven't been here since the old days, but even just the few months or so I have and listening to Just a Geek and Happiest Days, I feel like I've been on the journey with you. I'm so thrilled to hear how happy you are, you deserve to be. Unfortunately, I can't seem to make it to any Con you're at yet, but when I do I'm making meeting you my #1 priority.
I want to thank your family for being so willing to share you with the world, it's just a little bit (a lot) better for it.
excerpted from Just A Geek: a sort of homecoming
As I said in my last post, I'm really excited for all of the events on my schedule at the Phoenix Comicon this weekend, especially the TNG panel, because I get to share the stage with Jonathan and LeVar. Even though I talk to LeVar fairly often, we've never spoken together at a con. Though I've ...
I'm so with you!! Kelowna would be even awesomer for me, but I think I could swing a Vancouver trip. Come on Wil, there are some pretty geeky Canadians too you know!
*le sigh* Some day.
in which w00tstock 2.0 and 2.0.1 are announced
When we did w00tstock 1.x last year, we all hoped it would be successful enough to warrant taking the show on the road to some of our favorite cities. Well, w00tstock 1.x was so much fun for us and the audiences who saw it, it didn't just warrant it, it WINGER'd it. Hell, it may even have Damn Y...
I also recently finished DA:O, but was sadly disappointed in the ending. _However_ I played on Easy *hides from the boos and looks of disapproval/disappointment* and am thinking there might be more in the harder levels. There are a couple moments you could be talking about, to my knowledge, and neither were very nice for me. Both characters I had come to really like and didn't want to see go :(
aside: _LOVE_ some of the voice actors in this!! I did a double-take when Morrigan showed up, as well as Zathrian. Howe...well, my jaw dropped and I made a human char just hoping for more dialogue from him :D:D
Speaking of which....*goes off to play*
regarding the matter of video games v. movies
I had the house to myself last night, so I could watch whatever nerdy DVD or DVR'd movie I wanted, as loud as I wanted. I've been talking about re-watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended editions, of course) for a couple of months, but when I finally had a chance to get started, I ended...
Gotta love those 'Did I just say that?' moments :D
Try saying, 'Hey, you've got a bald spot.' to a guy with major burns over half his head, and hence no hair there. I don't think I ever turned as red as I did then. I was, of course, referring to a spot on the half of his head that did have hair. Either way, I kept apologizing the rest of the day but he just laughed it off thankfully.
Even though I personally knew this story already (either blog or audiobook), I really appreciate the fact that you reposted it for those that might not. It's thoughtfulness like that, that really shows you do care about your readers (among other things you keep doing :D). Thanks.
From the Vault: Still Cool
This is excerpted from something that was written eight years ago, almost to the day. In addition to being a story that still makes me smile, it provides context and back story for Friday's post that newer readers may not have. Even though I'm a much stronger and more confident writer now than I...
Another funny post, and the comments were just as good :)
Wesley/Worf...ouch.
The thought of you writing Picard/Beverly fanfic is amusing on many different levels. Can't wait to read/hear it!
I'm really tempted to get a hold of TNG episodes and start re-watching them too. It's been so long, some of them would be like new again to me. My friend and I once realized that it had been 10 years since the show had ended...and obviously that was a while ago. We would still talk about it then, and now even :)
billy bad breaks
This post has nothing to do with its title, but after staring at this for 20 minutes trying to come up with one, I just grabbed the first song title I could find. Thanks, The Damned. Once again, you come through when I need you. We've had a drought in Southern California for so long now, even a ...
I get the best of both worlds, snow and water-wise. In the winter, we can get snow so much that the plows have it as our road center lines...and you can't see the cars on the other side. In the spring...the city streets turn into rivers. Had someone's fence go floating by my husband's work during the worst one.
We didn't do paper boats as kids. We took pieces of bark and stuck in a stick with some cloth in the middle for a sail. Had to work on our skills for the village-wide race during May-Days lol
Dancing in the rain = classic fun.
Best wishes out to those that are actually in danger from mudslides and/or flooding.
moves by just like a paper boat
It's been raining pretty steadily, very heavy at times, since yesterday afternoon. The weather service says we should expect this to continue for at least a week, but it could go on for up to two weeks. I mention this because it hardly ever happens here, and if people weren't truly in danger fro...
A very touching post. The silver lining to the cloud of rush hour. I'm glad you had such a nice experience.
P.S. Just discovered Leverage and watched your ep yesterday. Chaos and Hartisan(sp?) keyboard dueling, absolutely hilarious!!
there and back again
Someone, I think it was Shane Nickerson, recently recalled the apocryphal advice given to people who choose to come live in Los Angeles: this city sucks, so if you're going to live here, you should at least love what you do... I got into Hollywood at 11 yesterday morning, and came back out at 7:...
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Your blog/podcasts/books have been so uplifting to me. What one person above said is true, thank you for letting us live vicariously through you, you do have an awesome life. I'm hoping to get out to a PAX in the next couple years, and I really do hope you're there too, for a couple reasons. I want an autograph of MotF and I want to give you a big, warm hug of appreciation/comfort/congratulations/etc (with your permission of course).
Thank you for being someone so approachable and 'real'.
the 2009 year in review, part six
This post is not a number, it is a free man. It also continues my 2009 year in review from part five, and concludes this obscenely long series of posts that I hope was worth the time I put into creating them. I revealed a fairly major secret, and there was much rejoicing. Yaaay. About 24 hours ...
Thank you and right back at you :D
Christmas Wishes from Steve Martin, and Me, Wil Wheaton
Steve Martin has a Christmas wish to share with you: (If you can't see Hulu videos, or just want the audio, YouTube has you covered. It's a Christmas miracle!) And here's my holiday wish, which isn't nearly as funny, but is at least (if not more) sincere: Whatever you choose to celebrate t...
I ordered Memories of the Future for me and as a Christmas present for a friend. I've had such a horrible week at work, but the book arrived today, and already I'm feeling better knowing what's in store for my reading pleasure. Thank you for all your wonderful words, and you and yours have a Very Merry Christmas!!
the twelve days of pirate christmas
Reader Brian B. sent me this yesterday, and it made me smile so much, I secured permission to share it. "The Twelve Days of Pirate Christmas" On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me ... 12 ships to plunder, 11 cannons firing, 10 crewmen leaping, 9 sharks a' swimming, 8 rum-...
Wow, awesome! I'm not a huge fan of Family Guy, but to know that Seth can sing Rat-Pack style is really kinda cool. I'm a fan of the crooners too :P lol
That definitely beat out my weekend of working.
I really loved the line 'I scored your childhood.' from Ron Jones and your very real reaction to it. Those moments are what make your blog so special to so many people, and like others have stated, you are more famous (infamous?) than you realize ;)
Can't wait to see Chewbacca Claus lol
Something something something awesome weekend
I had a rather ... interesting ... weekend. According to Paul and Storm on Sunday, I won the game of "What I did last night" that I didn't even know we were playing. It was so surreal, I'm mostly writing this down today so I never forget what an incredible time we had. Saturday, Anne and I were ...
One word:
Hawesome
A few more words:
Wow, like a comment before, that made my month. I am so telling all my friends this. *fangirly squee*
Uh, sorry...anyway, I'm up for getting Wil in as the 12th Doctor. I think that would seriously rock. Barring that, even a guest spot on either Doctor Who or Torchwood would be sweet :D
in which the secret identity of wesley crusher is revealed
Imagine if Television Without Pity recappers had been writing about TNG back in 1987, only with more swearing, more digressions and more geeky in-jokes, plus behind-the-scenes memories for every episode. That’s what Vol. 1 does for the first half of the first season of TNG, from “Encounter at Fa...
KAWAII!!! You and your brother look so cute there! Gratz on the high score and yeah, my brother in law taught me and my bro that trick. He could go through the whole game and not actually die once. We were in awe of him.
I love finding pictures like that, so full of good nostalgia.
the turtle trick delivers ultimate victory
I once wrote a Geek in Review, called 8 Bits High and Rising (Content SFW; Site is NSFW), about my love of the Nintendo Entertainment System. I liked it so much, I adapted a great deal of it for my keynote address to PAX in 2007. Here's part of it that's relevant to this post: I was invited to ...
Very wonderful imagery.
I've never seen the ocean in winter, not like that at least, but one of my favourite memories is a winter one. Waking up at 1am and going upstairs for a drink of water (bedroom was in the basement of parent's place) I look out the double doors of the patio and see a blue landscape. It had snowed recently, so everything was covered in white, and at the moment the moon was full. I sat there for a good ten minutes just enjoying the mystical sense of it.
I live in the Canadian Rockies, about 20mins from a ski hill, so we get teh snow. This year it's late, but I'm hoping for another one of those fantastical scenes :D
Thanks again for the wonderful read.
...remembering the irrational immortality of youth
I didn't have to look at the weather forecast to know that a storm is on the way; I could feel it with the first step I took outside this morning with my dog. As I stood on my patio and watched the steam rise off my coffee and swirl up through golden shafts of golden morning sunlight shot throug...
"Being a dwarf standing on the shoulders of giants does not diminish the beauty of the newly-sighted discovery."
I adore that line.
I was fair to good at math and science in school, but nothing too advanced. Then again, for the most part, I had good teachers. Then I made the mistake of teaching my grade 4 math to my younger brother, and he skipped Kindergarten and was hailed as the 'smart one' :P
Anyhoo, I too get the basic theory behind things but have problems when you come down to the actual numbers. Recursion especially...I make good infinite loops that crash the computer I'm trying to program on.
You just keep on trying, until you run out of cake.
Yesterday, I wrote: Well, the power just went out, so it's time for me to pack up my Mac and head out to a cafe with WiFi where I can work on my novel in front of people and get this posted. The weird thing is, while it's likely going to take an hour at least from the time I finish writing this...

he strikes like thunderball, because it's not unusual that she's a lady
I heard a Tom Jones song yesterday, and resolved to spend some time listening to his catalog today while I worked. This lead me to discover two really great albums on Rhapsody that I probably never would have found otherwise. The first is called James Bond 007 13 Original Themes which is exactl...
