The first Thursday of the month anywhere from 150-200 families are given home-made laundry detergent when they come through the food pantry. The soap is made by volunteers from our congregation by following a simple recipe. 150 bottles of homemade laundry soap has saved over $500 a month from having to purchase store bought detergent, which can then go towards... Spring has finally sprung! We were happy to be able to prop the pantry door open last Thursday to greet 158 guests, including 8 new ones. We had 131 families including 5 new ones on Valentines Day last Thursday. They were assisted by 12 volunteers on Tuesday and 51 volunteers on Thursday. Our numbers continue to climb. On January 31 we had 178 families, including 20 new families. We had 14 volunteers stock on the Tuesday before and 65 volunteers on Thursday. Studies have shown that kids who have breakfast are more focused in the classroom, have increased physical activity and are happier as well as healthier. We received some exciting news from Meijer. Our food pantry was picked to be the recipient of the Simply Give donation matching program for the Christmas season!! All 8 ladies arrived safely yesterday after the 7-hour drive to Beverly, KY in the beautiful Appalachia Mountains. Their job assignment will be to paint two bedrooms, install paneling, and trim pieces in her bathroom for an elderly lady who lives by herself (and physcially unable to do this work).
