Thank you for the kind words, Michael. Hope you get closer to Paris every day.
Street art in Paris: up, down, and sideways
Somehow it takes a few days for my eyes to adjust to being in Paris before I begin to see artful graffiti almost everywhere I turn. Maybe it's because all my powers of perception are (trying) to focus on navigation. So far, I haven't gotten lost since arrival about 10 days ago, if I don't count...

Hi Kay!
The price of the weekly Navigo Deoouverte is €19,80 as of January 1, 2013. The price of a carnet of 10 individual tickets has also gone up a bit to €13,30.
The official RATP site still limits info in English to the tourist products. Check out www.vianavigo.com for current details in English on transport in Paris.

Night photography in Paris
Having given up on getting up in the dark for dawn photo shoots, I have discovered a good alternative in photographing at night. Paris is like an enormous studio, each monument with built-in accent lighting. Just one of last night's shots is featured on the photoblog.
@SJ, lucky you!
I don't think the base Navigo pass is available through a machine, but that could have changed in months since my last visit.
The Navigo base pass is good forever. Just make sure you preserve both parts, the ID portion and the hard plastic pass itself. I managed to lose the actual pass and so had to get a new one this year.

Amazing! Thank you!
"Quack!" said Jerusha
I'm looking for this book or an anthology containing this poem. I've only recently found the author, Mildred Plew Merryman. The poem's most memorable line (to me at least): "Quack! said Jerusha. I like my taters smashed." Some day, I'd like to use that quote in a restaurant review. Amazon.com...

Better to pay the 5 Euros upfront than be fined for traveling without a valid ticket. The card is good forever. I keep mine in my passport case for future visits.
