kiddie cane - I am actually very much looking forward to watching that show. No doubt the Canes were like a traveling circus in those days... winning for sure, but all the side show stuff helped get them the recognition they got. That was back in the day when players were allowed to have fun, and probably due to a lot of the things the Canes (Bomb Squad!) did the NCAA and their stuffed shirts legislated against it. Catholics vs Convicts was a great rivalry. Too bad both programs will never be the same. Harris will never SNIFF a Heisman, and soon, Cane "fans" will be clamoring for one of the assistants on the staff to eventually take over for Shannon after 3-4 name coaches turn UM down.
Thanks for your input Jason. I see you remembered to change your name to Banks this time.
Where's XMann? ALL that inside info all season!!! Posted by: Jax | December 07, 2009 at 07:02 PM Where's XMann? ALL that inside info all season!!! Posted by: Jax | December 07, 2009 at 07:02 PM ----------- Huh? Where is XMann? Uh... 1) If you count 8 (or 9 depending on which of your you start with) comments above you, you will see I'm right here. 2) I never said I had any inside information. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Thanks for reading my posts though.
P.S. - how funny are the people claiming that Suh should win? 90% of us never heard of the guy 4 weeks ago. I watch and read about a lot of college football, and I'm one of that 90%. He had an unbelievable game against Texas. First time I had seen him play, but does he deserve the Heisman for that? He may deserve to be the top pick in the draft, but that will be decided by people who will sit in their office and watch game film all day every day between now and April. Not because the media has recently realized he exists or because he played well against Texas.
Tebow does not deserve to be in the top 3, and not just because they lost on Saturday. His performance this year has not been what it was in past seasons (maybe we have too high of expectations for him?) and particularly after his injury at Kentucky he has not been the same runner he was. CJ Spiller on the other hand, does deserve to be in the top 3. Wonder if Addazio would have gotten him the ball on Saturday if he had stayed home and been a Gator?
Damn Jeremy... you've got Shelley's DIGITS?
The Duke - how does a Gator joke fit in a discussion about the FSU bowl game?
Jimmy... uh, thanks.... I guess? Anyways - how about the Alabama OL as studs of the week? It didn't seem like anyone wearing all white got close to McElroy and he played lights out throwing the ball. Yes Ingram had a great game as well, but I think what Trent Richardson showed last week vs Auburn was that it might not matter who the RB at Alabama is right now, they are going to put up good numbers because of the OL. I also think it is hilarious that Bi-donkey whines about FSU's admin not talking to the media. I thought it was awesome that they all made their way to Tally that day and basically got nothing. No one else really has a problem with them not answering your stupid questions about how, what, when, where and why this happened. None of that matters 2 days later and really, it's non of your damn business how it went down. They stand to gain nothing by having all that be public knowledge. Sorry you hacks had to think of something to write yourself. The worse decision that was made that day was to make those 2 players go up in front of the media and talk.
The truth hurts huh puna? Have a nice time in the Chumps Bowl... oh wait, if you are a cane fan, then you won't be buying a ticket to that game either. Don't forget to watch the Gators play in a BCS Bowl... you guys remember what that was like?
@Sack Mann - the more you complain about me, the more I'm gonna post, just despite you. Thanks for reading! @T. Furgeson - That's funny, albeit a little insulting. I'm much taller that Bi-donkey, and have more hair. @Jimmy - Jimbo came to FSU from LSU because he KNEW he was going to be the next head coach, and SOON. Smart will have to move to Tallahassee, and prove he can run a def that is not Saban's, and then move somewhere else to be a head coach... he's not being guaranteed a head coaching job like Jimbo was. Faster road to reach his goal is to stay where he is. And although I'm not if sure Saban would do it or not, but IF Alabama wants to keep Smart, they CERTAINLY have the money to do so. He'll probably get a nice raise thanks to you guys though.
It could be worse... UF could be a 3 loss team who finished THIRD in the ACC COASTAL division and got bumped from a New Years day bowl game by a 6-6 also ran. OR WORSE - could be that team...who had to use a last minute come from behind win over division I-AA Jacksonville St to even become bowl eligible. You both have plenty to be proud of... keep on crowin'.
Got whipped up front on both offense and defense. Not gonna win many games when that happens. Not exactly sure why the offense changed so much over one season, but it finally caught up to them. Was losing Murphy and Harvin that big of a difference? Was losing Dan Mullen that big of a difference? Now is the time to start getting it figured out. Actually, the offense will have a much different look next year with more of a pocket passer, although it's not like it's all of a sudden going to be a pro set. The defense is not without blame in this loss either. They played the worst game of the year, but it's not all their fault... the other team imposing their will on them had a little something to do with that. The good news is, UF still has a BCS bowl to go to. The other schools in this state would love to be able to say that since they haven't been to one in FIVE seasons (FSU) and SIX seasons (Miami) respectively. Instead they are relegated watching the Gators play in the big games, and to rooting for others to beat them.

UF has had an undefeated regular season before (see 1995), so you are correct, it means nothing... but it could be worse... it is nice to NOT be a 3 loss team who finished THIRD in the ACC COASTAL division and got bumped from a New Years day bowl game by a 6-6 also ran (who had to use a last minute come from behind win over division I-AA Jacksonville St to even become bowl eligible). Well Kiddie cane, you almost made it through a post without making yourself look like a 4th grader. You actually sort of talked football until the Tebow/Hernandez line... which basically proves my point. You know virtually nothing about football. All you do is talk trash. Sure, you got the prediction correct, but when you say every week that the Gators will lose, eventually you'll get one correct. As for my prediction above... it happened almost exactly the opposite of what I said. Bama was able to move the ball against UF in the first half by passing the ball, not the vaunted running game which every thought would be their key. They whipped the Gators up front on both sides of the ball. UF got basically ZERO pressure on McElroy (who played much better than I thought he was capable of), and Bama's D was able to cut off the outside running game, and keep Tebow from running much. Only one thing that I said would happen did, and that was that UF would have more success passing than running. They didn't have the long plays I though they would, but the only success offensively was passing, and that was only in the 1st half. So, as losers do kiddie cane, you have to root for other teams to win and when they do, you start crowing yet again about how great your future is. Sorry the 6-6 Noles took your spot on New Years Day... certainly you cane fans will make a great showing and fill the stadium in the Chumps Bowl. Have fun there, and then a couple of days later when the big boys play, be sure to hope that someone else can beat the Gators for you.
Keep posting stuff like this and I will.
The title of this article says its gators vs. TEXAS in the NC game . They must be talking with sec officials to know that. Posted by: sidcane | December 04, 2009 at 08:46 AM ----- It's called making a prediction... that's all. Let me give you an example: I predict the Canes will return about half of their allotment of tickets to the Chumps Bowl. Or here's another: I predict that when the Canes lose to UNC AGAIN next year, the 17,000 strong Cane fanbase will want them to fire Randy Shannon. Then, as coach after coach turns them down someone on the current staff becomes a lucky man when they have to settle for promoting him just like they did when they hired Coker, and Shannon.
Steve... they are going to change (or ignore) that rule so Bowden can play against WVU in the state of Florida. "Hurricanes stay in-state for their bowl game." Not like it matters... they still won't sell out their allotment of tickets much like the USF game where they returned nearly HALF of their 8000.
I love it that Saban is so wound up... one of the major reasons he didn't fair well with the Dolphins. I think it bodes well for UF that they are loose, and Bama is so tight (allegedly).
You mean the guy who was already on the staff hanging around who UM had to settle for as a coach (same way they had to settle on Larry Coker) because the other 2 guys they wanted (Greg Schiano and Butch Davis) both said: "uh....NO thanks!" Yeah, I don't think it's gonna go down like that for Strong. Good luck to you guys in the Chumps Bowl though!
Who gives a crap about any of this? Once again, an idiotic blog by Matt Humphrey. But at least he finally got people to comment on one of his blogs I guess.
Kiddie Cane - I will eagerly await reading your post that finally gives the Gators credit when I get back to my computer Monday morning. I notice you didn't throw any football related reasons in your post. I'm actually surprised you didn't state the Gators will lose because the U is the future, and because UF is scared to play you, and because UF is scared to play those tough "OOC" games you guys play. Even though a quick glance at both the AP and USA Today polls show exactly ZERO teams from Miami's schedule in the top 10, but I digress. Here are, in my opinion, the FOOTBALL reasons, why I think UF will win: The Gator defense will find a way, as it has all season, to win this game. It will take stopping the run, and putting the game in McElroy's hands. I know Julio Jones is good, but Florida's secondary is BETTER. Jones will get his catches, but all in all McElroy is not the top passing threat this team has faced. Bama's run game is though, and if UF doesn't stop them, then Bama will win. On offense, I think Bama will put so much effort into stopping the outside run, that either linebackers or DB's will be out of position and susceptible to getting beat by the PASS. Hernandez will run right past those LB's as they try to get to the edge. And between Deonte Thompson and Riley Cooper there will be 2 TD's of over 40 yards. That's right, UF will win this game by making enough big plays in the PASSING game. And once they do, it will open up the run. I actually think both teams will score a little more than most people think with these 2 highly touted defenses playing. I say Gators 30 Tide 23.
Actually, it's only 236.76 yds per game... good for 6th in the nation out of 120 (#1 in the SEC). I'd say that would save a few lives.
Organizational Sociologist - I'll repeat what I have said many times here... keep your damn politics out of the sports page... If we want to read that crap, we can click on that section of the Orl Sentinel at any time. @ Andy - I was gonna say the same thing (sarcasm people!)... that coach in waiting thing seemed to work out swimmingly for the Noles, didn't it? Selfishly, I'd love to see Coach Strong stay. But I hope he gets what he wants and does a great job like he has for UF.
Here is the link to the McElroy story: http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20091202/SPORTS0401/912020339/1002/sports/Undefeated-underdog-QB-McElroy-faces-biggest-test Being 12-0 is an impressive feat, particularly in his first year as a starter. But the other 16 wins that make him 28-0 are from high school, and won't mean jack when it comes to playing in the atmosphere he will experience in the SEC Championship game.
