Edes's update is that ther pitcher would be Delcarmen or Masterson.
Teixeira to Atlanta; No One to Boston; No One to New York
According to Ken Rosenthal, Tex is heading to the NL, where he will probably destroy that league's inferior pitching. Where does that leave the Sox and Yanks? Well, the same place they've been -- looking at role players and rentals that can be had without giving up either club's Big Three. We'r...
there is a voter who refused to vote for anyone because of the stigma of the steroids era. It was a vote of conscience.
HOF: Gwynn, Ripken In. Rice, Goose, and Morris? Sorry.
Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn appeared on 98.5 and 97.6 percent of ballots, respectively. Goose Gossage appeared 71.2 percent of ballots, 21 votes shy of the 75 percent needed. Mark McGwire was named on 23.5 percent of ballots. I haven't been able to track down the full results; I will update this...

The Unit Is Gone
It's final. Randy Johnson has been traded back to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The haul, as per Peter Abraham (commentary is ours): RHP Luis Vizcaino. A 32 year-old journeyman with a mediocre WHIP. In the NL. RHP Ross Ohlendorf. He went to Princeton. Decent numbers in AA. RHP Stephen Jackson. Didn't...
But, Brad, Sheff played less than a month for the Yanks last year. You have to contextualize that trade. There was no room for him on the team. You can't really say that trading Sheff will prove regrettable. You can say that about the Unit trade if the rotation is injury-riddled and mediocre.

Again, Sheff's decline is a very very good player. Also, Drew, who is also a very good player, is a big injury risk going forward; a bigger injury risk than most players, inlcuding Sheffield. This is based on his career. Drew is just not very durable. I believe the ability to stay healthy is a skill-set, and it's a skill that Drew hasn't shown.
The Sox would ideally want to sign him for a short-term deal. I'd imagine they'll try to overpay on a two year deal (2 years, 32 million) rather than go for a 4 year deal, because of Drew's injury history.
Speaking of Filthy Rich ...
The Philadelphia Daily News scoops the Boston press with this nugget slipped into their GM meetings roundup: The Red Sox aren't through yet. Multiple sources say they are set to sign free-agent outfielder J.D. Drew, the Phillies' old amigo, for a 4-year, $48 million deal. If the Sox sign Drew an...
If A-Rod approved a trade to Philly than he's a huge masochist.
