I landed in California, to be a mom, to cook and to write.

In Southern California we had a partial solar eclipse today. I was hoping to find some eclipse related food traditions online, but didn't come up with anything except in parts of Southern India people don't eat during one. The only other food traditions I found are space or crescent related... Continue reading

The first time I had this was at a friend's house in Milan, and I remember thinking, how I had all those ingredients in my life and never knew to put it together, especially vinegar and olive oil and I missed out on something. Continue reading

This morning, I wanted to make something with ground lamb and use my puff pastry, an ingredient used in Australian food a lot, that I couldn’t find in LA until now. The obvious choice would be an Australia meat pie. I added red wine to the filling. Then I promised... Continue reading

The food would be a fusion of all I have come across, with the hope that it would create something new. To me that attitude, that love and respect of diversity and the fearlessness to mix everything up is so very Californian, and so Angeleno, hence the food I make could be nothing other than modern Californian Cuisine. March 12 So far to go. A little overwhelmed. Kinda lost. Really frightened. Remind myself in took me at least 2 months to finish part 1. #amwriting March 12 Hmmm. Finally broke down. I paid for Spotify, Just for novel... Continue reading

As I have discovered, I am as fascinated at the journey and process of writing my novel as the activity instead. I had wanted to write about it more, but simply working on the book itself has taken up all... Continue reading

I was just looking at chapter, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Then contemplating the two more rewrites. Then knowing my book is honest, intense and dark and I will be so exposed if it's ever published. Even... Continue reading

People holding up "Hong Kong Independence" signs. I have never seen it in public, never heard many people but me, say it before. It might be dangerous, it might be unachievable, but that's what I believe. Jeers as independence supporters... Continue reading

Outside library, knew it was closed but came by anyway. Feels comforting to be near other writers who hated their second draft too but manage to still finish their books and be published. Continue reading

Had some leftover onions and french bread. So opened a can of tuna fish, mixed it with red onions and mayonnaise, and will eat with canned corn. Great lunch, or quick dinner for a second draft rewrite! Continue reading

Therefore, maybe if it could all go away, I would have a much easier life; not everyone needs a passion, not everyone needs to create, and I am not sure how I was touched by that muse since I was a child, yet with no promises that I would excel beyond average and succeed in any way. Continue reading

This is so true. Not everyone has a passion, or need to do something, or be artistic... I meet people who try so hard to find what makes them "happy" and feel disappointed when it's not what they just tried,... Continue reading

Writing is a singular activity, not in the way it's unique or exemplary but separate, by oneself, alone. This may be obvious to some, or intuitive for others, but for me, I didn't have any concept of how lonely it would be to embark on a novel. Continue reading

Whenever I have doubts, I think of these, they are my mantras for finishing the novel, because whatever I am feeling is a process that every writer has to go through, even the best. Continue reading

Today I did my eight hours in front of the computer, and just completed one scene, totalling about 2000 words. There are times, when I just am not expressing what I am feeling, and it takes time to fix the sentences until it makes sense. I wonder if other writers go through that, if they rewrite sentences over and over until it sounds right to them. I think for me, it's really the difference between me being okay and being good. It's completely daunting, not because I don't think I could write like that, because I think I might, but I don't know how many hours, months or even years I need to put in before my book has as much texture and depth as the books I love. Continue reading
