Canespace Exclusive: LIVE Chat With Manny Navarro
Welcome to another of our special features here at Canespace we like to call: "ASK MANNY!" Every other Tuesday during the football season we have Manny Navarro from the Miami Herald host a LIVE chat session right here on the Canespace blog from 8-9 PM. On alternating weeks all the loyal Cane...
Excellent post, Tdiddy9212.
A remedy for non-believers
Kirby Freeman's ribs are sure to still be sore this morning. Kyle Wright's ankle probably looks like a balloon. And Eric Moncur might not remember much following his third quarter concussion. But be assured the Hurricanes are all collectively feeling -- and U too -- a lot better today after UM's...
Manny,
I have been a Cane fan as long I can remember and I think you telling fans to not criticize their team is straight bullshit. We have seen what it takes to be a champion before. This is the "U"; Mediocrity is not acceptable. Losing is not acceptable like Shannon said in practice. Get off your soapbox and recognize that playing at Miami, it comes with the territory.

Manny: What are your thoughts on Patrick Nix's playcalling? I think he's completely lost. Using the TE is something great Canes teams of the past ALWAYS did. Instead, we have Jerrell Mabry out of the flat when the guy can't run or catch up to a pass worth a lick rather then use a TE in that role. Chris Zellner??? Hello?
We never ran a gimmick offense like this before. He should take a page from Rob Chudzinski and learn what football at the "U" is all about.
Busy Tuesday at The U
Florida State week is now in session. I've got lots to share from Tuesday's press conference including interviews with quarterback Robert Marve, defensive tackle Joe Joseph, good stuff from Derrick Morse and a long talk with cornerback Chavez Grant. But it's going to take me some time to piece i...
Whos' the only freshman QB, RS-Freshman at that, to lead his team to a NC???
Bernie Kosar?
Let's see more offense
What ails JC about the Canes? He tells us it's Miami's offense. Read what one of our guest bloggers has to say about it. About JC: His name is Justin Carlson and he flew into Miami this afternoon to attend Saturday's Georgia Tech game. But before he left, he left us his take. Here it is... Cane...
I've been reading SMD's columns on the U for as long as I can remember. If she were to be a guest blogger every now and then, that would be great, IMO. Keep up the great work, Manny & Susan.
SMD Part III on Shields, Hill (last of night) :)
Susan here again... OK, here's basically what I'm writing in my practice report for tomorrow, only this blog (by Susan, not THE MAN-ny) will have most of what Shannon said: The case of wide receivers Sam Shields and Ryan Hill has been solved -- kind of. After several messages popped up Tuesday o...

UM: Wright Vs. Ranked Teams
Much of the talk this week has been about whether UM quarterback Kyle Wright has the right stuff when it comes to playing quality opponents. Wright is Joe Montana when he plays against unranked opponents. He is 13-1 with 23 TDs and 12 INTs. Against ranked teams, Wright is more like Sean Salisbur...
E-Man, you lost me at "a solid victory over T Tech this week."
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.
Ripple effects, plus Live Q&A tonight
One of the greatest fears Canes fans have about this year's team is that if the team struggles again, it could potentially cost them a few of the top-line recruits coach Randy Shannon and his staff have managed to corral in the early going of building what could be a stellar 2008 Class -- someth...

That said, how about we go back to the old school Cane offense and involve the TE a lot more than the last 2 games.
Time for O to put up or shut up
Hate to call a team out this early in the season. Hate to call out anyone. Who likes being called out? But if Miami's offense fails to have a good day yet again today against FIU, then maybe there is reason to have plenty of doom and gloom about this season. FIU, my alma mater, hasn't won a game...

The Short List To The Superdome: Week Two
Well, that didn't take long did it? The great thing about college football is, when an upset happens, you talk about it forever. Since there's been more than enough effusive discussion about the little David's from the Carolina's, I'm going to excuse myself from heaping on top of what's alre...
What the hell is an "arial" attack? Will they be using different fonts? LOL @ you.
Secret "O" in store for Sooners?
I've never been one to buy into the idea teams would withhold an entire offense for a tougher team the following week. Maybe, a few trick plays here or there. But an entire offense? This week as Miami has prepared for Oklahoma, some of you brought up the idea that UM may have been saving somethi...
how many reverses, traps, counters, or motion plays did you see vs. Marshall? I doubt that is the whole playbook we saw in our first game. Let's see

Does it not matter that OU's QB is gonna be making his 2nd start, EVER?
Should Kyle start vs. OU?
I'm just going to raise the question because I know I'm not the only one who has thought about it since Saturday: Should Kyle Wright start against Oklahoma? Look, I'm not trying to start a quarterback controversy. That's the God honest truth. God knows the last thing I want to ask Randy Shannon...
You, Shandel, and Palm Beach Post blogger Jorge Milian are douchebags for trying to stir up people against Kyle without giving the whole story.
The below is an article detailing the meeting Kirby, Kyle, Nix, & Shannon had after the QB decision was announced:
"Freeman said the meeting of the two quarterbacks with Shannon and Patrick Nix this morning went well, though.
"Coach said `Hey, I know this is hard on you guys,'" Freeman said. "Kyle and I both handled it like grownups. The same thing happened a year ago at this time. We're just going to take this situation and make our football team better.
"Kyle and I spoke plenty of times. He's not upset with me. He has no reason to be. Kyle and I have grown extremely far in our relationship with each other. A quarterback needs to be a team player, and a lot of times it gets taken away because people try to put too many eyes on the quarterback. Well, that's not what we're about anymore. And I feel comfortable with that."
Freeman says he knows what Wright is going through.
"I've been there twice," Freeman said. "I just kind of stayed away from him and let him be his own man. And he came to me. He's one of my best friends, and I was proud of him for coming to me because he came, said, `I'm not mad at you. I'm upset just as you would be.' I said, `I've been there before.' There wasn't much said. We wanted to make sure that we were there for each other before they made this decision. This decision does not have anything to do with our friendship."
UM: Wright Not Talking
Just was informed quarterback Kyle Wright will not talk to the media after Wednesday's practice. What do you guys think? Do you want to know how he feels after losing the starting job to Kirby Freeman? Wright and Freeman are completely opposite when it comes to dealing with the media. Freeman i...
Come from behind wins when down at the half:
Kyle Wright = 0
Kirby Freeman = 1 (BC 2006)
thanks for playing.
Kyle never had the testicular fortitude to comeback after being down at the half.
End of Story. LOL @ Kyle Wright apologists
UM picks Freeman ... for now
[Updated Wednesday, 8-29: You'd click on the following to find today's column by me: Question isn't who starts. A better question: Is either guy any good?] Coach Randy Shannon, yesterday: "Kirby Freeman will be the starting quarterback for the Marshall game. We still consider Kyle [W...

Where's the Frank Costa radio button?

Jerrell Powe, anyone?
A relationship between a UM assistant coach and a Mississippi area high school coach could have the Hurricanes in position to land an unexpected addition. Jerrell Powe, a highly-rated defensive tackle recruit in 2005, has failed in enrolling at Ole Miss the last two years because of academic is...

A deeper look: Offensive line
Among UM's many reasons for its offensive struggles the past two seasons, no unit likely received more criticism or blame than the offensive line. An eye-opening 36 sacks was part of the reason former line coach Art Kehoe got the boot after 2005. But as porous as UM's line was in Kehoe's final ...

Roberts chooses Miami
The University of Miami landed its first men's basketball commitment for 2008 when guard Quincy Roberts of Harrisburg, Pa., announced he'll play for the Hurricanes, according to The Patriot-News. According to the newspaper, the 6-5 Roberts chose UM over Florida State, Virginia Tech and Pittsburg...
I hope the Bulls stick it to the Pistons.
That series is going to be a dogfight.
Heat-Bulls G4: Done! Now what?
Win or out Sunday. And it was out, 92-79. Sweep. What must the Heat do to be title contenders again? Is it as simple as getting Dwyane Wade healthy or are significant changes needed? Comments welcome on why this series was lost so resoundingly, and on the state of an unceremoniou...
No heart, whatsoever. Eddie Jones did his usual disappearing act in the playoffs. The most defining thing this whole series was how the Heat just quit with 3 minutes to go.
Man, what a painful series to watch.
I hope the Bulls take it to the Pistons. They deserve it.
It'll be interesting how this offseason plays out.

LMFAO @ Bruce's post on April 28, 2007 at 10:37 PM:
"We can continue expressing ourselves using our own thoughts and observations. I watched Quinn; I liked Quinn. I also wanted Drew Stanton more than John Beck, but I saw Stanton more."
Really? So that's it huh? Bruce saw Quinn and he liked him, so forget it. Bruce can assess all of NFL the talent in the league better than all the NFL scouts can, so that's it. Done. Nevermind that 21 other NFL scouts passed him up b/c they thought he wasn't worth it. This just in, ask for Bruce for tomorrow's Fantasy Five numbers since he knows everything.
LOL @ Bruce. Good Lord, Almighty.
Draft Day 1: Dolphins draft ... Ted Ginn!?
We were hoping the Dolphins fared better in their first round than the Heat has. The Dolphins had a chance to, with QB Brady Quinn, who miraculously fell to them at No. 9. Instead -- stunningly -- Miami drafted Ohio State receiver Ted Ginn (pictured). I'd hoped the Dolphins would be...
raoul duke,
NFL scouts all said the same thing that Quinn wasn't worth it, but no doubt you know more than them. You should tell Huizenga to Fire Mueller and hire you for your expert wisdom.
Idiots like you were sucking off Saban at the end of 2005 when the Fins finished on a winning streak and are now crying at every single front office move made. The way it's going, CamCam & Co. are going to get run out of town without even having their team take a regular season snap.
I'm done. Continue with the self-loathing.

Mike Hunt,
Yeah, we got Cory Schlesinger(sp?) that used to play @ Nebraska. (He ran over the Canes in the Orange Bowl in 1994 to win their 1st NC). I remember watching that like if it was yesterday.
