I refashioned a pile of discount store necklaces to resemble this necklace from Hacienda Montaecristo: Before--individual strands, all the same length: After--combined into one necklace with graduated strands: For more pictures and how-to, visit Darling Petunia. :) Continue reading

The impending end of WR has motivated me to finish a few little projects. First up is a blouse I started back in September as part of Self-Stitched September. I missed the deadline a little, I guess! It's Simplicity 2365,... Continue reading

Even though I'm a ditz with knits, when I push myself to work with them, I usually like the results. This top is New Look 6901, and I am so so pleased with it! Participating in Self-Stitched September was a... Continue reading

Hey there, new Refashioners! It's nice to see so many new faces...er...fonts? I'm in the middle of a six-month stretch, but I've been lagging. I haven't fallen off the no-shopping bandwagon exactly, but I got to the point where I... Continue reading

A new summer skirt! I used Butterick 4686, a nice pattern if you want fullness without a lot of bulk around the hips. But beware! It runs really big! I need to take this in a little, which will bring... Continue reading

The idea was to make the perfect pair of travel pants for my husband. They needed to have lots of pockets and be lightweight. I combined elements of a few patterns (Butterick 6885, Simplicity 5581, and Simplicity 7092) to get... Continue reading

I swore I would never be the one on here saying, "I've been such a slouch, etc etc," but here I am... I'm such a slouch! Just haven't had the sewing mojo lately, but now that it's summer and SKIRT... Continue reading

I'm getting closer to my goal of fixing up five skirts by Sunday! Today I started with this skirt... ...and this bag... ...and made a new bag. More pics and chatter at Darling Petunia! :) Continue reading

I said I'd refashion five skirts by Sunday, and I'm halfway there! Now, a lot of you apologize when you post something that isn't a dramatic refashion, and every single time I think, "Hey, they make something wearable, that counts!"... Continue reading

I promise I'm working on things! The weather is the pits and not conducive to good photos, but I will post about a new skirt in the next few days. In the meantime, I need some incentive to whittle down... Continue reading

This post at academichic sent me on a search for a dark denim skirt. After a couple months of combing the thrifts, I was tempted to hit the Gap or the Banana Republic factory store to see what I could... Continue reading

I finally finished the Take Manhattan top from the Twinkle Sews book by Wenlan Chia. Sorry for the dismal picture, but it's raining cats and dogs, so we're stuck inside. This was made from stash fabric...$1/yard from Walmart. I really... Continue reading

I used a holey sweater to make a super-quick scarf. I tried the cowl-style scarf I've seen on here a few times, but I ddidn't like it on myself. Too short and just kind of awkward. This is more my... Continue reading

I think I finally found a good pattern for a straight skirt! This is McCalls 3830. The fabric has been languishing in the stash since last winter. The sweater is a recent thrift shop purchase. In the winter, I seem... Continue reading

Hey ho, Darling Petunia here! Back for another, hopefully more productive round. (Winter is HARD for me...anyone else?) First, I have to throw this out there: The gruesome details are at the blog. I don't even have a good excuse.... Continue reading

I spotted this cheery striped sweater on the half price rack at the thrift shop a few weeks ago. Confession: I did consider wearing it to work with a Santa hat, but (thankfully) came to my senses and used it... Continue reading

Needed a skirt to wear with the sweater I de-buttoned a while back. This one underwent many changes from start to finish! I'm posting from the road, so I am low on details, but I will fill in the blanks... Continue reading

Two extremely simple refashions: Thrift shop sweater with insanely large coconut shell buttons. Thrift shop sweater WITHOUT insanely large coconut shell buttons. I thought the buttons made it look really dated, but without them, I can wear this now. Freebie... Continue reading

The flower on the knit top I just made seemed a little dinky, so I went back to the drawing board. I cut some larger petals, then layered the original flower on top. Much better, I think! More exuberant! :) Continue reading

Sorry for my unintentional sabbatical. I've been doing more stash building than stash busting lately. Mea culpa. Getting back at it, this is the Built By Wendy knit top pattern (simplicity 3692). Fabric from the incredibly cheap Jomar near Philadelphia.... Continue reading

This started as a scarf but ended up as a toy cat. Why? Because I discovered how much I HATE TO CROCHET! I think I would have poked my eyes out with the crochet hook if I'd persisted much longer.... Continue reading

A skirt to go with last week's bag! No no, just kidding...I won't wear them together! I think either one is enough on its own. I had just enough bias tape in my stash to finish off the hem. And... Continue reading
