Leta's nursery was designed to be feminine but not overly girlie. The base is gender neutral robin's egg blue walls, with accents of magenta and pink. Artwork by yours truly, a rag rug, stuffed animals, a colorful baby rag quilt and the start of a book collection help to create pops of color and fun! Continue reading

My boyfriend & I are expecting a little girl (Leta Patrice) in January. I've spent hours collecting inspiration for her nursery. And I've finally settled on the wall color (Drizzle - Sherwin Williams), and bedding (Dolce Quilt - Southern Charm Quilts, Etsy; Circo Small Flowers and Pink Fitted Sheets - Target). I also found this cupcake print by Sandra Juto online that I used as inspiration for a watercolor painting I did. I have pops of bright pink/magenta going in all over. The chair (from Target) is on my wishlist. I have a used chair I will probably end up... Continue reading

A year ago September 29th, Sean closed on our beloved 702 McKinley. Here's a few before and after shots of the house and some of it's rooms! Thanks to all who have helped us in the last year...I swear we'll be moving soon! We're within weeks...assuming we get some free weekends! Some of these are not true "before" shots and NONE of these are true"after" shots, as we're still working and similarly. Additionally, some of the angles of the before and after shots vary, partly due to the fact that walls were removed and views that once were not available... Continue reading

I've been MIA...partly due to the fact that I started a new job back at the end of August. Partly due to the fact that I am expecting a baby in January. And partly due to the fact that my boyfriend and I have been working like crazy on our home renovation in order to get moved in and settled before the arrival of the baby! *phew* But I'm going to try and get back to posting regularly...especially since I've got a collection of stuff to post about! I came across these rainbow-tastic images from Gareth Leyshon on Behance's Typography... Continue reading

I know the kitchen update post I did was missing a photo of the countertops. Though it's not decorated...nor clean, here's a photo of the kitchen..."finished". (complete with cleaning products on the countertops!) I'm in the process of shopping for a rug to take up most of the kitchen floor...the area is 6' x 6' (roughly) and I'm looking for a 4' x 4' rug....something bright and cheery! *Note, the crown that goes across the cabinets on the left will also go across the cabinets on the right...Sean just got sidetracked with a million other things! Here are some photos of the progress of the kitchen from the drywall finishing to cabinets and appliances! (Sorry no photos of the counter tops...though they ARE in!) And apologies for the color quality and graininess of some of the photos...with so much dust in the house, it's hard to take photos with flash, therefore I work with available light...which in some cases is not the best! The kitchen color is Stamped Concrete from Sherwin Williams. It is a fairly neutral gray that has a tinge of green to it! It definitely changes colors throughout the day as the daylight... Be forewarned...there will be no awesome photos accompanying this post. I promise I'll get to it soon! (If our lives would ever slow down!) Since the last post, the house has completely changed! Here's a list of it all! Drywall finished (downstairs) Ceilings stomped (up and downstairs) Dining room and kitchen floors installed Foyer floor installed Walls painted Interior doors painted Cabinets installed Hardware for cabinets put on Appliances installed (range, microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer) Flooring where carpet will be - scraped and scrubbed (that was a LONG weekend for me!) A bit of landscaping planted by my mother (just... Continue reading

Discovered Double Naut today via the French Paper Sample Room. Fell in love with the Flaming Lips Poster. So much so, infact, that it's sitting the a "cart" while I decide if I really need to spend the money on yet another gig poster. ("But it's The Flaming Lips, and it's a sweet poster!" says the devil on my one shoulder.) Really though, Double Naut's posters and tee's are no more than $25 bucks, with some at $15. Great art, sweet deal, awesome bands – you can't go wrong! *note...the Flaming Lips poster is even cooler because at this particular... Continue reading

As if this BP oil spill disaster is anything we're ever going to forget in the near future, here's another brilliant piece of artwork that immortalizes/illustrates the effects of it. This Jude Landry print was found via the French Paper Sample Room (the most superior source for printmaking/design awesomeness!). This print (in an edition of 75) is only $25, but the downside is (from my point of view) no proceeds go to benefit the Gulf coast...nonetheless, it's a print worth owning. Jude has similarly phenomenal prints for equally amazing prices! Enjoy! Continue reading

There was some lovely blogger that led me to Chris Ballantyne's work, but unfortunately I can't remember who that was. To said lovely blogger, thank you! Ballantyne's paintings done on wood panel are some of my favorites! I love the abstracted landscapes, the way he plays with scale, the translucency of the paint to showcase the wood grain, and the overall flatness of these pieces. Yeah, dimension and depth are great, but flatness is where true genius lies! To create something that is so flat, yet so intriguing is inspiring! I also love the simplified color palettes he uses! This... Continue reading

This won't be an exciting post with tons of pictures on our progress, but instead a funny little story to let you know about the non-progress we've made on the house since the drywall party. Thursday morning my boss & I had volunteered our time to work at the Shelby Soil & Water Conservation District's Conservation Camp. This year the camp took place at the Shelby County Fairgrounds which happens to be located directly across the street from 702 McKinley! After we got set up at our location, we realized the view of 702 was perfect. Ellen (my boss) and... Continue reading

I'm betting if you've seen any coverage on the Gulf oil spill you share the same sick and devastated feeling about it! It's such a horrible thing! Of course I want to help out in some way, but being from Ohio and not being able to just take off and go volunteer, I feel somewhat helpless! Threadless and designers, Ross Zietz and Frederik Wepener, have created a shirt that directly relates to the devastating situation that is continuing to take place in the Gulf. This awesome shirt is ONLY $10 and all proceeds will be donated to the Gulf Restoration... Continue reading

I came across these fabric flowers from EmersonMade. via Brooklyn Bride. If you know me at all, you know that I love brooches and pins, so these giant flowers are right up my alley! She also makes smaller ones, but doesn't that large red rose totally scream Carrie Bradshaw! Nothing says confidence like wearing a gigantic flower on your blazer, cardigan or dress! EmersonMade also makes flowers for the hair, corsages, tie pins for men, and more! I just can't get over how fun these are! I can't decide whether I like the dahlia's, dandies or roses the best! PS.... Continue reading

I've spent a great deal of time on Etsy looking for hand-dyed wool batting and roving for a project I'm going to do with some kids next week. So I've decided to do a little Etsy showcase for today! I've been a fan of Flor for a very long time! Each time a catalog comes in the mail, I swoon over the gorgeous colors, textures and patterns. One of the things I love most about the Flor catalog is the gorgeous styling of the rooms! There's so much inspiration in each catalog I can hardly contain myself. The above are just a few samples from their website! I love the idea that no two tiles are exactly alike – every rug or area is completely unique! Plus, you decide how you place your tiles! Also cool- the fact that... Continue reading

No, I'm not talking about those funny little scrambled up words you have to type to prove that you aren't a spam-er, I'm talking about East London design duo Nicole & Petra Kapitza who have designed this awesome geometric typeface book with 100 different patterns and an array of inspiration. $85 gets you a gorgeous book and all of the geometric patterns! A work of art and the ability to make your own works of art...priceless! Top image from My Fonts - Creative Characters Newsletter Continue reading

Saturday was one of the longest and most successful days at 702 McKinley. About 18 guys showed up to help drywall, and they got about 85% of the house done! The entire downstairs is done, as well as a little less than half of the upstairs. It looks amazing and feels like an actual, livable house! Sure, there's scrap sheets of drywall leaning against the walls and laying on the floor, and there's drywall dust all over, as well as a variety of tools scattered about, but it feels more real and livable than it ever has before...even more than...
