I can COMPLETELY relate and to be honest I think the balanced life when you can do it is the best of both worlds. I think the term you are looking for is Hybrid Mom (new magazine devoted to this). I started Cubes&Crayons to support that work and childcare option and found that it took me a full year to find that balance again myself, but now I get the best of it all. Work time when kids are in school, morning runs, nightly yoga, hubby time and most importantly, mom time. My secret, among other things, once I pick my kids up the iPhone goes off - no email/work calls until bedtime.
