First things first - I can't start writing before I send out a heartfelt thank-you to my dear friend Charlotte, who kept my blog filled with beautiful pictures and thoughtful words while I was getting ready for Quilt Market. The Beatles were right - you can get by with a little (or a lot - in my...

Collaborative Rainbow Project
Here is another "late" post of something we worked on during the week of St. Patrick's Day. Again, I've decided to post it because this concept could easily be adapted for use at any time of the year. I took a large piece of poster board and sketched a rainbow onto it. Then I set up a little ...

Language--Part 2
NOTE: This post is a continuation of the previous one. Once children have mastered some of the pre-reading skills I discussed yesterday, they may be ready to move into the "traditional" Montessori language materials. There is no hard and fast rule for determining readiness, in my opinion. Cer...

Our February Poem
I know I'm really late posting this again this month. That's just the way life is going right now. Here is the poem we've been learning for February. "Nature's Valentine" Frost flowers on the window glass, Hopping chickadees that pass. Bare old trees that bend and sway, Pussy willows soft and ...
I am not quite sure what you are asking, Donita. When you say letter books are you referring to the spiral bound books that have one letter on the front? If so, those do notcontain words, just pictures. After the sound is introduced the child reads the book of pictures that begin withthat soundto reinforce letter-sound correspondence. Hope thathelps!

Parts of a Tree booklets (and other tree "stuff")
We have begun to study trees in the classroom during the past few weeks. I love introducing children to concepts about nature. We started our study by learning the parts of trees. I used the puzzle shown below from Montessori Concepts to teach them the parts. One thing I love about teaching ...
I did make the cards myself. I did a Google image search for most of the pictures, so I am hesitant to make the files available as Idont want to violate any copyright laws. It is usually pretty easy to find images doing a Google search though.
