Anyone ever heard of Abraham Lincoln? California allows study with a Judge or attendance at an unaccredited school or correspondence law school study. Regrets, however, that the Federal Government will not hire any of these people for any Federal Legal Job. They will instead take the 499th person out of 500 in a graduating class if the spirit moves them!

The organizations were once under the State Bar umbrella. Now the Conference of CA Bar Associations is separate and funding is solely from the tuition paid by the Delegates and some private donations. The work we do is different as we propose law changes or new laws to benefit all Californians. This is an almost year around project. Everyone can speak for or against a proposition and the debates are most informative. The MCLE given was in vital specialty areas hard to get otherwise and made the conference fees much more cost effective. Attendance by minorities and their associations was important and deserved a separate venue this year. Given the need for quorums it was important in a down economy to do everything possible to boost attendance. The organization plans to work closely with the Bar in the future while not spending any public money. There will be special effort put to involving the State legislative and executive branches in reviewing and acting upon our recommendations in 2010 and 2011.

We have all been over the non-lesson lesson of Gates and Crowley by now, but what about the real lesson? That being that a concerned, helpful citizen can be pilloried by the media or people with a racial axe to... Continue reading

Wow. Have you ever heard such meaningless dialog as has been going on at the Sotomayor non-hearing hearing? She has adroitly refused to answer any questions directly. Let's face it, her advisers told her to keep her Latina mouth shut... Continue reading
