Got it. Thanks. Fascinating point of view.
Stephanie A quick redux. I am not sure if that link will take you to the pic. Here it is: If you want to read Noonan article, google Noonan two miracles Charleston. But, again, that is gone now. That is/was the Southern way and only Southerners, maybe only deep South Southerners would have seen it. Webb didn't see it but he does now and, at least in this regard, his heart is in the right place. Again, I can't tell you how destructive it is that Obama missed the chance to go with the deep South Southern strategy. I am willing to bet the fast majority of people who are screaming the loudest now, nationally, did not attended integrated public schools. Would be very curious to know. It gives one a complete different set of experiences upon which to build. Sid
And Southerners only have themselves to blame, according to the historian Shelby Foote in 1970. By Sidney O. Smith III Presenting a counterfactual often helps one gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of history. It can shine a light... Continue reading

Dang it. Orwell in Homage to Catalonia. Every time I try to act "intellectual" I get popped but good! Still love Spain. My Catholicism is French, though. I came into the church via a Trappist monk/priest/genius/ who listened to me when no one else did. No one else in the world. So out of loyalty to him, I reckon, I joined the "senior circuit" But I am not a good Catholic and I'll just leave it at that. Enjoy Mass though.

Cee If you are talking about the policeman who shot the black guy in the back in Charleston, he was indicted and there were absolutely no problems in Charleston from that event. This was of course pre-Roof. I want to say he was indicted in a New York second, but that makes no sense at all. You know, "black lives matter" came from New York City, although nothing against New York. Maybe Indicted in a Charleston second? Otherwise I am tipping my hat and staying out of this. Just trying to make a point about perceptions and how people are going to play on those perceptions and it goes all which away these days.
Tyler Not sure you read my essay. Nonetheless...again...if you will do the following, I will take a much closer look. And again, I am doing this out of respect because I think your insights can contribute to some of these raging debates. 1. Write a 2000 word essay about your experiences growing up with your parents. 2. The contradiction, if any, between your feelings for your parents and your extremely, extremely researched beliefs about same. 3.How you resolve that contradiction, if any,and how the Catholic church should approach it. 4.Write under your own name. 5.About a dozen or so photos of you with your family growing up. Then...I will applaud you for your courage. I am all but certain it would get published and would help people in their "discernment".

One aspect of the American experience, at least for those who are lucky enough, is to come across a professor who considers his or her career a vocational calling. Seen from a different angle, one can gain a deeper understanding... Continue reading
