I had the same problem. Recently I've been using apples mobile me service which gives you a 10gb cloud that's where my files sit - accessable from desktop at home, laptop an my iPhone. Syncing is done automatically and all locally cached ... Which has worked flawlessly for me. The iPhone app is great small footprint but allows you to cache some or a set of files while roaming abroad.
There is one major drawback. iMac, MacBook and iPhone required! I have heard there is a client for windows, but I've never tried it.
Portable workspaces, a dropbox for my life
While working I carry my laptop with me nearly all of the time. I carry it between home and work nearly every day. This is not so much of a problem when I’m taking my normal commute using public transport, after all I have a pretty light weight road warrior laptop, but a real pain when riding ...
No probs Paul... see you then :)
A Global Warning
I've just checked the BBC news and its all doom and gloom in the UK. The weatherman is predicting that the south of the UK is about to face its coldest night ever (on record), with lows of -20C. And for the past few days I've had a stream of Family and Friends pinging me about the snow and ice t...
Thanks Karen ... You can also find Kiwi fruit in the Philippines. I challenge you to get a photo of one...good luck...
lIang baka at tupa (Para sa Karen)
When I came to New Zealand, Karen a friend who I met in the Philippines, asked me to send her a picture of a New Zealand spotted milking cow. It says a lot about the stereotypes that New Zealand portrays to the world. Not surprising really as there are some 20 million sheep here (and only 4 mill...
I am not really sure about everyone walking around barefoot...especially in supermarkets...
Ten Things I'm Really Not So Sure On (Well, Seven...)
Apparently the All Blacks are Playing England next week. I only found out yesterday. I am not safe. I need somewhere to hide. Napier YHA - I've just walked to the out of town supermarket for food and beer. On the way back I realised I have an (expensive) hire car at my disposal. I'm not sure wh...
Thanks Karen
Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon !
The Acid is Kicking in...
We have just arrived in New Zealand. Its rather nice; Nice food, Nice wine, Nice walking, Nice Scenery, Nice people, in fact everything is just Nice. Very Nice and its rather comfortable. Within the space of 48 hours I've managed to have one of my bestest hiking days ever on the Tongariro Crossi...
Thanks for you comments all.
Jay & Karen, Great to read and see your comment on the blog.
Karen, re Blog Title: Yes, after 2 months in the Philippines, Lady Gaga has got the better of my head.
Paul, Just left Hong Kong and am in Auckland.. Hong Kong was magnificent...really liked it... more in next blog (am a little behind)
Can't read my, can't read my. No he can't read my poker face...
Ok, I know, I'm a little behind in my blog. That has probably something to do with Sagada, a rather cool chillout place in the northern Philippines followed by a trip to see Hong Kong with Brian and Lily, which I have to say is surprisingly chilled out given its one of the worlds largest metropo...
Just noticed...last time I looked the Sun was only 20p. Now its 30p! when did that happen ?
Brown and Out
One of the great things about travelling is that your a long, long, long, way away from the Tabloids. Ok, that is, apart from when I was passing through Bangkok airport and saw a selection of The Mirror and The Daily Mail in the Duty Free shop. Not quite the choice I wanted to make and certainly...
Right. Got here and its raining. Lots.

To the point that I had to wade knee deep to the Tuc Tuc.
Should I get to Ankor Wat this afternoon is a debatable point, but in any case, its mute as I don't rate my chances of staying dry.
Right, off to Ta Phrom. Thanks for the tips. Oh and yes, Siem Riep is a dump.
What ? No Grenades allowed ?
We have just arrived in Phenom Penh, Cambodia. It was one of the longer journeys we have taken in the past few months, with a full 16 hours on a bus from Laos. We arrived, blurry eyed, to be greeted by a sign at our guesthouse, which kindly reminded us of the prohibited items ... but this time I...
Awfully familiar. Bet you the intervention board paid thousands of pounds for some management consultant to dream up the decision making structure. Come in, create confusion, produce some highly appealing management speak ...for err.. management and then leave (normally with a mess)...
BTW, Sarah and I have left China, escaped the firewall and I am glad to say that normal relations with you blog have now resumed.
Is the plural of Anglican 'Pelican'?
Great Business Memos Of Our Time - Number 1 in a series of, er, 1: If you lived in Reading in 1999 and happened to work for the Intervention Board (and someone reading this may have done) you would have received this brilliantly clear memo one day concerning 'decision making structure', and br...
I think its time to put all my savings into a show box under my bed and find a hermits cave somewhere... that article is rather depressing.
A Indian chap said to me in Katmandu... "your politicians a have been at the pigs trough haven't they" I thought ... well put. Maybe its time to kick this government out for allowing points 1 and 4. I mean what happens to Gordon's Spend and borrow cycle ? He's been taking hints of Vicky Pollard hasn't he ? Yeah but no but yeah but no.. alwite it was Daavid Camerooon getting ovf wiv da liberals round da corner wot did it. all dat borrowing or whateva... wasn it ?
I think I'm going to register for a postal vote.
Never Try And Stand Up In A Canoe
Bude, CO - Three things I learned today: 1) If you walk the whole of the South West Coastal path you climb three times higher than the summit of Everest along the way. I did a bit of it today. Hilly. 2) The good folk of Zuma Jay now have an in-store cat, called 'Zuma' 3) Irresponsible Cornish ...
Surely you've got a stage of blogging where you start using completely pointless titles ? Or is it just a marketing ploy... I mean what the hell has a canoe got to do with your last post ? really ?
I'm approaching stage 4a so much so that I'm going to escape to the electricity-less Himalayas for a 2 week retreat. Call it a detox. I guess that's stage 4b.
The Eight Stages of Blogging.
Portwenn, Off Of The Television (Oh, alright, Port Isaac, CO) - Pilgrimage of the day was a trip to the pleasant seaside village of Port Isaac. It's quaint and Cornish and reminds me of Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire, only with sunshine. The North Cornwall Coast is a bit special. I have su...
50 rupees in the post for the plug :)
Star Wars Health & Safety
Cambridge, CA: Me, James and Mark had a discussion a few years back and came to the conclusion that management processes aboard the Death Star were not putting it at the top of the corporate agenda. In particular were were concerned about potential equipment flaws, and in particular why the stor...
