I love a good deal! One of my favorite hobbies is browsing through second-hand shops, antique stores and garage sales for just the right pieces. I often walk away with nothing, but sometimes I hit a gold mine! I feel like there's some really good sales in the online Clearance Rack right now, so check it out on your lunch break or when you're browsing your phone tonight. And if you've never placed an order online for Stampin' Up before, this is a really good reason to start! It's so easy, you will LOVE it... and love that your order... Continue reading

This card layout is really good for using up scrap strips! It's also a fun way to combine patterns you normally wouldn't, because it's such a small part of each showing that the "clashing" becomes a bit of the patchwork charm instead of an eyesore. This next card came about because I mis-measured some copper foil paper and couldn't bear to throw the strips away. Three or four of them, evenly spaced behind your focal point, become a visual "mat" that is unique and thrifty! In this case, the strips also help tone down the busy pattern of the feather-print... Here's a fun layout that works with any floral stamps and sentiment, and it's so easy to do. I'll be using this one for lots of different cards! This gorgeous card layout is in the step-by-step instructions for the November 2019 Class of the Month club projects, all featuring the set Beautiful Friendship. I designed four projects, two bonus projects and a bonus pop-up gift card holder for this particular class, so you can be sure to have plenty of ideas to spark your own creativity. Copy everything exactly, or branch out and swap in different colors or cuts to... Continue reading

Exclusively in November 2019, Stampin' Up is offering a gorgeous new holiday crafting bundle that all coordinates for perfectly perfect projects! As if having a new stamp set and die bundle weren't enough, there's also the "I want it all" suite with matching papers, embellishments, diecuts and trim. Added to the fact that you'll be able to use the rose stamps all year round, you'll be able to make dozens of cards, tons of tags and even scrapbook pages to commemorate your season--all handmade and heartfelt--in a fraction of the time. Sooo pretty! I can't wait to play. Get your... Continue reading

My Christmas card stack is steadily growing! Here's another design from this year. I was given The Most Wonderful Time bundle (page 39 of the 2019 Holiday mini catalog) as a pillow gift on the Greek Isles cruise this summer, so it was fun to finally play with it! The stamps that really intrigued me from this set were the presents, which are cut out all at once with one die. It allows you to get all the die-cutting needed for a card in one pass through the machine. The three presents and their curly ribbons are done with just... Continue reading

This year at my craft shows I had a little section just for pet lovers. More and more people are sending pet sympathy expressions these days when people lose a beloved furry companion, and it's nice to have a card that says just the right thing. I love this easy technique where you stamp the saying two or three times, in different colors, then use words cut from the phrases to highlight specific thoughts. Such a nice little accent, and it takes only a minute to do. I also had stocking stuffers for cat and dog lovers this year. It... Continue reading

It's a blizzard outside, as I type this... but inside my stamp room it feels like spring! With all the hydrangeas, hyacinth, roses and tender green leaves you'd seriously expect my craft area to smell as heavenly as it looked. It was a welcome break from working on my Christmas cards. I chose Beautiful Friendship as our featured stamp set for the November 2019 Class of the Month after the very first card I made with it! I knew you guys needed to see this little beauty. I can't wait to show you the four class projects, two bonus layouts... Continue reading

Every year I have a large, four-month Christmas Club with 20+ ladies, and we generate a LOT of scraps! So I wound up with a huge pile of 3/4 inch strips of the Wrapped in Plaid holiday papers--and you know me, I wasn't about to throw them away! So I used one of my favorite techniques for turning scraps into useful pieces, and adhered them to scratch cardstock. Once they're dry, you can use any dies to cut them into shapes or background mats. So pretty and SO useful! I love turning garbage into gorgeousness! I used the Stitched Rectangles... We got our first snowfall of the year in the night and it's very pretty, although already half melted. You can see the leaves on some of our trees haven't even started to fall yet! They will now, though! I had a sad occasion to make a sympathy card this week. A long-time coach, coworker and family friend passed suddenly of a stroke. We know our times are in His hands (Psalm 31:15) and we are thankful for the testimony of his life's work, but it's still sad. Sometimes, like snow in October, season are cut shorter than we think... I like the farmhouse style a lot, although nothing can induce me to paint my walls flat white... I do appreciate mixing rustic finishes and antiques in with my decor, and always have. But for cardmaking--bring on the clean white farmhouse! The milk can full of red berries was a little stark by itself, so I warmed up this fall card with some of the red plaid check (my fave pattern) from the Toile Tidings holiday papers. Simple to color, easy to lay out, nice and flat for mailing--this is a great card to keep in touch with loved ones... Continue reading

I'm getting ready for a huge craft fair at the university this Saturday, and one of the things on my list to replenish was my stock of masculine cards. I hadn't had a chance to play with my new A Good Man stamp set yet, so I put it together and set to work! Pretty Peacock Petal Pink Soft Suede Crumb Cake Seaside Spray Need Paper Supplies? http://bit.ly/shopwithLyssa When I mass-produce I like to cut, stamp and color my focal point first, then raid the scrap bin for bits and pieces for layers, mats and backgrounds. I wasn't sure about this stamp set because I didn't want to have to hand-color the scene on dozens of Christmas cards, you know? But I loved the sentiments, and I decided to go for it and look for ways I could stamp or emboss it and not have to color. This was my first attempt! And It must have been ok, because two of my Christmas Club ladies ordered everything I'd used to make it! That is always such a compliment when someone thinks your card is worth copying. This actually is a great one to do if you've... Continue reading

Really wish you could see this one in person! Metallic foil cardstocks don't photograph in all their gleaming glory! I LOVE how this card turned out. The older I get the more I appreciate good clean lines and simplicity, and this card has both, along with a dash of sophistication in the gold accents. Wanna make this one at home? It was super easy. I'm going to be an auntie again! I'm so excited to hug the two little boys I already call my nephews and KNOW that no one can ever take them away from our family. I just wish the adoption process didn't take so long! Justin and Seth have had a rough go for ones so young. There is a deep anxiety inside them as they worry about things that other kids never even dream about--like having enough food, whether or not anyone will be home when they wake up, or if they'll have to go live with strangers at a... Excited for this project because it uses two of my newest stamp sets, Bokeh Dots and Here's a Card. I treated myself to Here's a Card because it makes me smile every time I see it in the catalog and ready the sentiments. I figure it will make other people smile, too! Inside it says, "I'm here if you need me." I think this would make a lovely sympathy layout, maybe with blue or purple instead of the green. Here's what I used, if you'd like to make something like this next time you sit down to create! Click any... Continue reading

Here's a fun new layout for cards and a fantastic way to use up scraps! Take a strip of double-sided patterned paper measuring 2.5 x 5.25 inches and decide which pattern you want the most of showing. With that side up, fold back the bottom left corner on itself all the way to the right edge. Secure with a dimensional and adhere the strip to your card front. The "en pointe" folded-back part leaves plenty of room for your sentiment and also draws attention to it. Cool! Ready to recreate this one at home? Here's what you'll need: Click any... My fingers are still inky and the color continues to be purple! We're celebrating the new color Purple Posy by having a long weekend full of purple-only projects. My first card today is a bonus card for my Class of the Month participants in October. I always use the class' featured set when I make a card to send with their sampler of the month, so I knew I needed to use Winter Woods. But since it's purple party weekend... I used it in purple! Purple is really fun for a Christmas card, actually. It's very elegant, and being the... Continue reading

I had so much fun giggling away in my craft room, making all these purple projects! I've got a BUNCH of cute purple cards for your inspiration this weekend to celebrate the return of Purple Posy, our delinquent In Color. If you missed the commotion, back in May when we Stampin' Up demonstrators got our new Purple Posy ink pads, it became clear that the ink color wasn't "fast"-- it stamped one color, dried another, and then faded to yet another. Stampin' Up immediately acted to make sure that inferior ink pads didn't get in customer hands, so we've been... Continue reading

Christmas cards are fun because you can go SO many directions with them... elegant or cute, sparkly or natural, modern or classic, rustic or glam.... just about everything goes! You will see all kinds of holiday cards here at Song of My Heart each year because I try to make a good variety of different designs for people to glean inspiration for their own Christmas greetings. Today's card features natural elements and earthy colors to celebrate the season. It's very textural with the leaves, sprigs and linen thread loops setting off the scrolled sentiment. Inside the card I used the... Continue reading
