I will confess, I was thrilled when we bought our minivan five years ago. I was pregnant with my fourth child and was tired of cramming three carseats together in the backseat of our Subaru wagon. I love the Subaru,... Continue reading

The koi pond at the National Arboretum. (I love the National Aquarium too. Sometimes it's just the right size for us.)

Sweet and hard all at the same time. You are a great mom for nuturing her ties to China and helping her through the hard parts of incorporating that part of her into the woman she is becoming.

Absolutely have done this. I have to be careful that I don't carry too big of a purse, or I tend to sway it.

I'm well past 10 and I'm not sure I've mastered those 4 things either. Eeek!

Seriously - do they THINK about this stuff when they schedule these things? :-)

Great post - I am in awe of your biking skilz! My husband rides to work in the summer but it makes me nervous because I have two former co-workers who were nearly killed commuting on bikes. Both were riding in the street which is what he has to do too for part of the ride. Car commuters totally don't look out for bikes. Your rules remind me of something I wish was also posted on Metro for the inevitable tourist vs. commuter conflicts... blocking the doors, standing on the left side of the escalator... I feel a post coming on.

amytoast tells of the research she has been able to conduct because of Susan (and I'm not totally clear on exactly what she is saying, but the graphics are supercool!) http://www.boulder.swri.edu/~amy/whymommy.html

Hilarious! They all get there - she will too! (I am the Queen of Inconsistency... definitely a parenting handicap.)

This is hilarious! Sign me up for the club. I am also booger obsessed, which is why the fact that my 4 year old came home with her adorable school photo where there is a BOOGER hanging out of her nose the perfect irony. I'm also big into the earwax. It is astonishing how much of that there is... I was actually thinking of opening an Etsy store with earwax candles...

Also, just realized I mistakenly put the Harding-Kerrigan smackdown in Albertville. That was Lillehammer. My apologies.

I hear they are actually trucking in snow from higher elevations to the ski slopes at Whistler. If they are running low, I know where they could get more.. the parking lot of my kids' school!!!

This is so beautiful. And evokes many a long night in the rocker with my babies too. I remember how I craved my little bundles, and they craved my comfort too. Quite a difference now that half of them are preteens!

Oy, I KNOW! I love that moment on Christmas when the kids are opening their gifts and you can sit on the couch because you are FINALLY ALL DONE. (Except then I will have to get up and clean my house and cook dinner for the ILs, BUT, it's like running a marathon, sometimes. Too much to do in too little time. And one school that flooded and a blizzard that closed the other one didn't help my planning this year at all! We're almost there!

Oh wow! This is almost exactly a post I have been trying to write. My daughter is in 4th grade, but it's the exact same story. And it's heartbreaking. My own friendships have suffered because some of the moms of these girls have been MY friends since preschool as well. But I can hardly look at them now when I hear the things their daughters say. All I can do is hope that my daughter is learning valuable lessons about friendship that will serve her well when she's older. (And teach her how to make voodoo dolls!)
