Hey! By any chance are you attending the dinner? We're going and made reservations at a B&B nearby for the night. It would be awesome to meet up if you're going!
Table to Farm Summer Solstice Dinner June 20th
Although I typically talk about farm to table here at the Garden Apartment, I'm taking a moment to talk about something a little different (although quite similar)-- a table to farm dinner hosted by the Neighborhood Restaurant Group. Table to farm? Yes, that's right. Rather than bringing th...
Well now that I know you'll be reading my posts for guidance and not just for an academic pursuit, I'll have to step up my game.
Farmer's Market Menu: Juniper Smoked Chops with Young Garlic and Asparagus
This is not a Stephanie Willis post, but I understand any confusion. Until recently, I lived on Capitol Hill. Eastern Market and its array of butchers, bakers and produce stalls was a mere five minute walk. I've always enjoyed Stephanie's write ups of area farmers' markets, but it was academic...
Rachel,
Thank you for the correction. I thought he said his name was Wayne! I will correct it in the post!
Mount Pleasant Farmers Market Opening Day
I recently moved to the Columbia Heights neighborhood, so I was itching to explore the markets in the area. You can just imagine my gleeful joy to find out there was not one but TWO farmers markets within a short distance of my new digs that I've never visited. And as luck would have it, bo...
I'm with you - bring on April (or May)! I'm itching to get my hands on fresh corn, red peppers, Summer squash and strawberries (okay, all berries).
A Bipolar Month {and sauteed Asian greens}
March is a rather bi-polar month, don't you think? One day it's sunshiny wonderful and the next it's in the deepest depths of despair without any warning. Take for example the day it snowed so heavily that I couldn't leave the Garden Apartment to drive to work. A mere three days later the s...
I had no idea there was a local vendor selling dried beans in the DC area! So excited to hit all the farmers markets this Spring! Oh and I LOVE the color in your kitchen! I hate to say it, but I'm moving out of my garden apartment in three weeks. Wait, I take that back, I'm totally excited to finally be above ground again!
A Fresh Perspective {and cranberry beans and rice}
The Garden Apartment's kitchen gets some fresh paint, and its inhabitants enjoy some red beans and rice just in time for Mardi Gras. Cranberry Beans and Rice "It looks radioactive." This was our first reaction to the orange paint we had so carefully selected for the Garden Apartment's kitch...
Can you tell me how you froze your peaches? Did you just slice them up and put them in a freezer bag or were some additional steps taken? I plan on freezing a bunch of Spring and Summer fruits and veggies this year and have been looking for tips on how to freeze things appropriately. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Peach and Ginger-Spiced Pecan Galette {A Cure for the Winter Blues}
This peach and ginger-spiced pecan galette is sure to cure the winter blues. Featuring preserved peaches from the summer complemented by spices typically used in wintertime gingerbread, this pastry acknowledges that it is still winter (but remembers warm summer days fondly) Every January I get...
This looks like a fabulous idea and a delicious spread! And I so love deviled eggs!
Cocktails Before Noon? It Must be the Holidays.
Four fun ladies enjoyed a holiday get-together a la Eric Ripert. This time: holiday cocktails and a series of canapes. Photo by Allison McConnell. Seated left to right: myself, April of The Food Scribe, Allison of The Humble Gourmande, and Colleen of Foodie Tots. Yes indeed. It is that time...
