i spun two skeins of yarn earlier in the month, but it was only today that i got around to taking some photos to share with y'all. i have probably an hour of finishing work left on my muddy baby sweater, and then my hands are itching to get back to spinning for a bit. -melissa

Blanket Bonanza
You might remember my first ever quilt for my sweet neice Zoe. (Please use your imagination to read her name with an umlauted e, and if anyone knows how to do that on a pc, please let me know). That was actually just one of three blankets I sent her. The second blanket was conceived at the famil...

brown muddy springtime
this year in southern minnesota we are experiencing an especially verdant springtime, but many years winter drags its feet, leaving us with browns, greys, and just a hint of green. april's bundles of joy theme is "tiptoe through the tulips - springtime color explosion" (or something like that, i...

girl on fire
there has been an explosion round these parts of seven year-old craftiness. lily is on fire with creativity and craftiness. she will disapear into her room and return an hour later having made herself a hand sewn pocket pal (pattern from sewing school by amie plumley). or she'll head out to ...
oh i love love LOVE everything about this post! nothing makes me happier than the joy children get from creating art, and your sabrina earns a trophy for all-in, completely submerged enjoyment!
PLUS the absolute best children's books are those that have been loved and read and reread and wrinkled and worn in elementary school classrooms. those are the most precious kind!
Score!
My awesome Aunt Pat cleared out a bookcase and invited Sabrina and me over to see if we would like any of the children's books up for grabs. Pat is a retired elementary teacher and book lover. Lucky for us her grandchildren are too old and/or have a house full of books. We had a great time readi...
sorry, that last comment was from me (cmv) but for some strange reason my computer has stopped allowing me to post in firefox with my own darn name. sheesh.
squares of joy -april edition
the april square for my square-a-month blanket for bundles of joy is completed: it didn't turn out exactly as i envisioned... there were less of the darker blues left than i thought (all but the navy blue is from my first ripple afghan) i threw in a little navy there at the end (from my march ...

Oh Hai!
No, I'm not dead. I'm still here, still have plenty of things to say, I'm just... pregnant. At first I couldn't write here because it wasn't public and it was too hard to find things to write about when every waking minute my brain was thinking "OMFG FINALLY I'M PREGNANT WITH A VIABLE BABY!" and...

Good Things About Winter
1. The sun is at such a low angle, that it shines beautifully into my livingroom in the morning. 2...I'm thinking, I'm thinking... 3. Fresh snow- unless you have to drive somewhere. 4. Bundled up grandchildren, with rosy cheeks and noses, and hopefully the hats and scarves tha...

What a difference a year makes....
On the evening of last years superbowl, I almost died. Not figuratively speaking. Literally. I had had major surgery, and everything had gone very well, but not long after I woke up, I felt that something was not right. I was excessively thirsty, and, over the course of the next day,...

A beautiful day in the neighbourhood
It is finally below 90 degrees in Houston! I had to go out and enjoy it by taking a walk through my neighbourhood. It is perfect summer weather, warm enough to run through sprinklers (and you know I did). I love to see that the trees are winning the war with the sidewalks. -Lin...

Thanks! Unfortunately I'll have to wait a few months for any tastings.
Hopefully no rogue storm will take them out.
The cicadas are super creepy when you crunch them and they turn to dust in
your hand. I'd like to see one still in its skin one day - but I only ever
see the stuff they leave behind.
