My 13-year-old daughter recently shared with me some of the things the kids at school -- boys and girls -- have said to her about her body. She inherited the "boob gene" from both sides of the family. She has... Continue reading

Al and Tipper Gore's announcement of their separation after 40 years of marriage struck people in much the same way as celebrity death news. In many ways, it was a death -- the death of a very public and what... Continue reading

Ever since my son was diagnosed with ADHD, I've been concerned about his self-confidence. His impulse control issues have led him to get into trouble at school, and despite my assurances that none of this makes him a "bad" kid,... Continue reading

Carol, I know your story all too well, from personal experience. The courts will give Ex every opportunity to comply, and the best thing you can do is be Zen about it and not let it get to you. Hiring a lawyer can be a mixed bag. I chose not to hire a lawyer, but then, I am a lawyer (though not a family court one). I picked up enough information from my divorce lawyer and from consulting with attorneys who specialize in family law to represent myself pretty capably in Family Court. It helps to know what to expect. I'd advise at least consulting with a lawyer. Most lawyers will charge only a nominal consultation fee (usually nowhere near their hourly rate), and the advice they'll give you is invaluable. I will send you a referral. Good luck.

This is great! Your son may not appreciate the rules now, but when he is older, he will hopefully understand that you imposed limits on him when he was a child, so that he would be able to exercise self-control and impose limits on himself as an adult.

Baby wipes are another flushing no-no, as I learned when I had to get a plumber to snake out my sewage line. I don't remember how much that lesson cost, but it was pricey. If the container doesn't specifically say "flushable," they should not be flushed.
