The point is if he followed people's advice he would still be having problems. Matt can bench press over 300#. He should be able to lift at least that much off the ground. We shored up the holes in his fitness. Could he eventualy do more? Probably if that was his goal, we aren't focusing on huge weight for him. We are helping him be able to push or pull his car out of a snow bank or do some labor if needed.

Exactly. That is why we started him out with rack pulls at a light weight. We slowly strengthened his back, so he could hold himslef in position. Many " medical professionals" told him not to squat or deadlift, but would have no problem with him getting off the toilet or picking up a sack of dog food. We just teach people how to master there own bodies and perform functional tasks. When they can do this add the weight.
