Try a new yarn, get a new pattern
Have you really looked at Sweet Pea by Queensland? It is a uniquely textured worsted yarn that is 100% cotton and comes in kettle-dyed or hand painted colors. The hand on it is soft and because of the texture it has is doesn’t seem to have the tendency to grow like many cottons do. After playing with it last week, I was able to come up with a cowl pattern that only requires a single skein. It’s a perfect quick knit project for Holiday gift-giving! Since its cotton, you don’t have to worry if the recipient is allergic to anything.... Continue reading

The beginning of a beautiful relationship
Weaving is something that I have been interested in for some time. I got the chance to learn a little about it at TNNA and purchase a "class size" loom. I finally sat down to try out my loom and I have to tell you that I am totally hooked! Obviously, I am still a novice, but I really like it so far. It took me a little while to get it warped. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and followed a manual. Now I am on to the weft. I am really enjoying myself... I am hoping to... Continue reading

What's your word for the New Year?
Several years ago one of my favorite scrapbook artists, Ali Edwards asked this same question. She introduced an interesting concept that I instantly adopted. The idea is to find a single word that you can apply to your life for a full year. Sort of like a New Year's resolution, but deeper, more like a value. My word for 2013 is simple. For me, this means working towards a simple life. This doesn't mean boring or bland, just not complicated. My hope is that by the end of this year I can look back and know that I have lived... I love it when collaberation works
If you are a magazine nut like I am, than you have no doubt seen this: The inspiration for this: I am so lucky to have such a crafty and creative team! After seeing the above mag cover I wanted to make a yarn ball wreath for the Studio. By the time I had gone to the store and bought the craft supplies needed I realized that my inspiration was bigger than my stamina still. So I did what I could - sat on my butt and covered styrofoam balls with yarn from my stash. The next day, I presented... Continue reading

Recovering well
As some of you may already know, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer a couple of months ago. I underwent a total throidectomy before Thanksgiving and am recovering nicely. We are still waiting on pathology reports as to whether or not I will need to undergo any other treatment; we should know that in another week. The good news is that this type of cancer has a very high curability rate and a low rate of recurrence, so the expectation is that other than medication to compensate for my lack of thyroid, things should be pretty much normal again. I... Continue reading

Costs of doing business
There are many costs to doing business and any shop owner is usually aware of them before they open their doors to the public. By the time their first year of business is over they are intimately acquainted with them. There's inventory, payroll, advertising, merchandising, attorney and accounting fee, taxes, shrink, time away from family and many more. None of these are a surprise to me, but one in particular had me shocked (and a little sick to my stomach) by the amount in which there was. You may think you know which one I am talking about: taxes -... Continue reading

I just couldn't resist
Ever since we got this yarn in the colors and textures have taunted me from the New Arrivals shelf. I tried to ignore them (I have plenty of projects, not to mention I just started a new project)...but I just couldn't resist. I just have to finish binding off and weave in tails and it will be ready to show off tonight. Hope to see you at Happy Hour! ~A Continue reading

I just love this new yarn!
Last week we received Tumble from Rowan and I just cannot wait to make something quick and cute with it! Have you seen it yet? It's soft and big which means is fast project that anyone will love. I really like the fact that Rowan brought the yarn out in bright and saturated colors, not dull and neutral. It will make for a great statement piece to punch up your wardrobe during those gray and dreary days (I can hope for weather, can't I?). The pattern booklet is hard to resist too! Continue reading

Not the best day to visit the studio
Goods news and bad news. Good news...they are finally resurfacing the parking lot! Even better news...it should all be done today!! Bad news...they have closed the entire parking lot to do it all at once; so there is limited parking on the street and you will have to walk around to us. We are still open until 7 tonight in case a little walking has never scared you away from obtaining fabulous fiber!! Continue reading

We're gathering our nuts
What does that have to do with yarn and knitting, you ask. Well, my husband and I were discussing inventory levels and how they were dramtically rising right now and I explained to him that I need to have it now, so there was plenty for you to make all that you wanted to make this fall and winter. His respose: "so you're gathering your nuts for the winter." Yes, dear we're gathering out nuts: So, tell us which of these are your favorite. Leave us a comment, we'd love to hear from you. ~A Continue reading

Making' changes again
Now that we've been in our new diggs for a bit, it was time to do a little tweaking of the space. Any of you that have been coming to the Studio for a while know that I do really enjoy this, hehe. Thanks to some "inspiration" from Leslie and Sharon we have expanded the main room to include out storage agree. This gives us more room to, you guessed it; bring in even more yarn for you to choose from! What do you think? This is still a work in progress, with a few more changes to come, but... Have you been in to see the new Studio yet?
We've heard from so many of you that have come to check us out that: #1 "It's really not any further" #2 "It's SO much better!" #3 "There's so much more room!" and my favorite: "WOW, this is awesome!!" Yes, the move was a bit unexpected; but sometimes life throws a curve ball and you manage to hit a double with it. That's truly how I look at this situation. We all feel that the move has been a very positive one. We will be able to hold more classes, expand our sewing class offering and even be able to... Continue reading
