All Works.In.Progress... le sigh I'm in love with the fall. Just in love. We're delighting in all things apple, enjoyed a trip through the corn maze with my tiny neice and have been leaf peeping each time we venture out. The colder days and nights have seen our first fire in the wood stove, extra layers at night and best yet, new fabric and projects begun. I find as I take stock as I always do in the fall that I am the master of starting projects. It's a great deal of cutting and sorting and planning and drawing and... Continue reading

Hi Laurie! Thanks for checking in on me... I'm having to be creative with my efforts to stay positive, it's one of the most difficult things! Hanging in there for sure :)

E's Far, Far Away Play-mat... Tied and Squishy Well, to say that life has gotten a bit complicated and this year has gotten away from me would be a bit of an understatement, really. My last post was in December, goodness. But life in all of its joys and struggles really had us on a bit of a roller coaster this year to say the least. Most importantly and happily, I became an auntie to the most wonderful tiny girl and the happiest baby one could wish for in December. Magic I tell you. The feet...oh the feet We've spent... quilt obsession
The Jack Quilt from Flail of the Flair Etsy Shop I'm itching to start another project... a bit strange considering something new was begun, oh, the day before yesterday, but there it is. This Union Jack Quilt was something I happened on while innocently pinning other things I have very little time for. I love it, and of course, I'm thinking of using my beloved Liberty. Just what this girl needs. Actually, what I need is a plan to finish some projects that have been put off for years a while. I'll show you what I mean in a year-end... Continue reading

into the new year
I began a new project yesterday. It is certainly one I've been anticipating for a while, one that has been on my to-do list, pinterest page and even my desktop for a while. It seems to be part of a flurry of sewing going on here. The list does get longer and the days home to accomplish those projects a bit longer. Oh, how I do love vacation. Until those days finally do dwindle and it is back to reality, I have the rest of this year to sew, sip tea and contemplate the new year. I hope it is... Continue reading

into the loft... an update and a bit of a story
When I tell you (often!) that I am the luckiest lady that there ever has been, I truly, truly mean it. I am incredibly lucky to have the most beautiful, warm, sunny spot in our home to create and reflect. This evolving space I have come to love used to be Rob's office before I moved in. And what a story that was... my moving here. The apartment I was living in when we met suddenly and horrifically began to leak and flood during any rainy weather... and that summer just happened to be one of the rainiest on record.... Hi Beth! Freudian slip I think with Improve! I so loved the workshop, I know you would also... life changing. Can you make it to Denyse's class in April? :)

My blocks from Denyse Schmidt's Improve Quilting Class Oh goodness, I had the most wonderful Saturday... covered in thread, fully inspired, learning, laughing with a great group of women and taught by Denyse Schmidt. Let's back up just a bit. Last week, I happened to notice that Denyse would be teaching a class at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell. Lowell has a special place in our hearts, Rob used to live there and we both love this sweet and eclectic city. The workshops were sold out but I emailed to have my name placed on the wait list... a bit of everything
This particular school year is testing me... my patience, my resolve, my abilities... just everything really. In the midst of it, I'm learning a great deal about my will and about perspective. So far, I've discovered that taking joy in the little things is essential... it's food for the spirit. Also, that apple pie martinis are really lovely. Back to perspective though. I've been treating myself to little bits of fabric, books that I find and love, a really expensive cup of coffee from an out-of-the-way stop in the morning... it just helps. With that in mind, I saw this... Continue reading

chocolat made me do it
Image from designsponge It started innocently enough... a bit of sewing, a bit of period film viewing. One of my favorites this time, Chocolat (2000), a sweet, clever little film starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp. Lovely little afternoon. I glanced up from my sewing to see... image found here ...the opening of the chocolaterie (which often prompts a bit of a chocolate craving that is almost always endulged) and it hit me... that wall truly has been painted the most perfect color blue. I'm strange like that and most certainly a bit compulsive when it comes to paint of... Continue reading

three things I'm itching... to make
There's a bit of a creative bug happening here... not nearly enough hours in the day to accomplish the many things I'd like to try and tackle, but none-the-less, I'm feeling the need to make. With that in mind, I'm starting a bit of a series here in this little space, a little addition to my crafty list of things to do. I'm calling this little series "three things I'm itching to make" and hope that it will cover some recipes I'd like to try, knitted lovelies I'm looking to start, sewing projects I'd like to get stuck in to,... mint and pea pesto... it's what's for dinner
It was 84 degrees here today. 84. It is such a treat and we are just loving and soaking in these warm (bug-less and humidity-less) days. These delicious stolen moments make enjoying this fall season so lovely, but also have us holding on a bit to summer, especially when it comes to dinner. Mint and pea pesto has been on a continuous loop here at our house, it is so quick, so easy and most importantly so tasty. You must try it. My sister and brother in law made it for us when we visited them this summer and they... Continue reading

three things i love
I spent a bit of time over the weekend working on some x plus blocks for my quilt and decided to take my new Little House pins for a test drive. I love, love, love these pins. I'm convinced they are responsible for some amazingly accurate piecing on the blocks I finished over the weekend. I'm so happy with these little glass head pins. At first, I couldn't really justify spending a bit more for pins... I sew right over mine and though I've never had an issue, on occasion, they've bent as a result my laziness. I kept seeing... on knitting
I've wanted to write this post on knitting for many weeks now. Seems like today is the day, finally. My half hearted attempts to reallly get into knitting have been well documented here in this space over the years. I purchased a Group On deal for knitting lessons for a local shop that closed down mere months after my purchase, I have a collection of books to help me... knitting just doesn't come easily for me. And yet, I still keep coming back to these needles. While visiting my sister and brother-in-law over the summer (who live a stone's throw... Continue reading

Hi Rachel, Autumn is a state of mind, I'm convinced!
looking forward
image from Pinterest It's really, really fall-ish around here and I'm loving it. We've had our first wood fires, butternut squash soup and cider. Oh yes, it is here. Besides the usual fall treats that I'm looking forward to (you should know Rob's apple pie is top on that list) I have a cravin...

Besides the usual fall treats that I'm looking forward to (you should know Rob's apple pie is top on that list) I have a craving for some new fabrics. I'm starting to believe that work should direct deposit my checks to Anna Maria Horner... there are two fabric lines that I'm obsessing over from Anna Maria the Great. Dowry is just so beautiful and so filled with colors and patterns I... Continue reading

Hi Cathy, I pressed them open on this one I think. The wool at the seams made me go that route, you're right. Purl Bee has a fantastic pattern that omits the seams altogether with their lap quilt/quillow.
holiday handmades 2 :: felted wool blanket for my guy

Hi Kate, how lucky to have a place out that way! It is so magnificently beautiful!
there and back again
Oh friends, we had the best little adventure. Right before school got underway again (not always my favorite time of year, ahem) we stole away to see my sister Amy and brother-in-law Greg who live in Reno, Nevada. Our time allowed us to head to Yosemi...
