Ah, kids and salamanders. Luckily there is very little brain matter to worry about it knocking around. Amazing shots!
A new, slithering friend
Jonathan and I were exploring at my parents back yard on Sunday when I spotted a Salamander. He was orange with bright spots and Jonathan was fascinated with him. Almost too fascinated as he tried to pick him up several times and then wanted to keep him in a cup and take him home. We told hi...
Oh, that's funny...
"Meeting" Dad's "look-alike" Mark Martin (race car driver). . .
When we bought tickets for The Bog at Watkins Glen International for the Helluva Good NASCAR race Sunday, we didn't know that Mark Martin would be there for a question and answer session. Still, it worked out well, since a lot of people tell Dad he looks like Mark. None of us really had a plan, ...
OH, the bedtime thing will work out. It's such a small thing and in the long run this time will be imprinted on your relationship, even if details escape his memory. I'm convinced that is the basis for the strong relationship I now have with my grown son. I'm so glad you're enjoying this time with him.
How is it I seem to have less time for everything else, when I have more time with my three year old?
The first week of my schedule change is almost over and so far I'm loving it. I'm loving being home more with my little boy, even if it is only an hour and a half more a day. It seems like we've packed so much into that extra hour and a half this week. Either shopping for some much needed clo...
Your photos are so amazing! I love the one with the different generations. So precious.
Weekly Winners: July Fourth Edition
I've been so busy the last month, I haven't even got in on Sarcastic Mom's Weekly Winners, or even read her or many other blogs. I'm hoping to get back to reading some of my favorites these next few days and weeks. My Weekly Winners this week is the "Fourth of July Edition." It's also late. *sig...
God they're all alike!!
Conversations with men.
Me: "Warren's grandma fell this morning and broke her hip. They're operating tomorrow." Brother: ...... Shuffling of papers. Brother: "Oh..uh-huh." Shuffling of papers. Brother: "So, is she going to be OK?" Me: "Who?" Brother: "Warren's grandmother." Me: "I just said she fell and broke...
Oh, what a good neighbor you are! Hysterical.
Honey, can you come home? Our neighbor might be dead in his backyard. . .
Looking out the back door I see our neighbor sitting in a chair under his tree, chin on his chest. It's getting dark and he's in the same position he was ten to fifteen minutes before. I dial Hubby at work. "Honey, Jack is in the backyard, sitting in a chair under his tree. He hasn't move in a l...
You. Are one BITCHING mommy with a camera my friend!!
Yes, I'm just a mommy with a camera. What of it?
I wrote some stupid things this week in the comment section of a blog. They were actually ignorant, not blatantly "stupid." Like on purpose stupid. Whatever that means. Anyhow, rightly so I was called on it. Not so rightly some personal attacks were also made toward me. My photography skills wer...
Aw, how cute. And yeah, they all have a butt obsession, don't they?
I got muscles!
He was bouncing up and down, doing some type of push-ups in the tub, the water splashing around him. "I exershizing!" he announced. Bounce. Bounce. Splash. Splash. Two minutes went by and he stood up. He flexed his arms. "I got muscles!" he announced. Then he dropped back into the bath water and...
I am with you, totally! My 16 year old daughter loves to run outside when it pours. As long as there's no thunder, who cares, right?
Hey, they're kids . . . let them play in the rain!
Jonathan and I attended a birthday party recently at an area petting zoo/farm. As the party got under way, under a pavilion, the sky grew dark and there was a down pour. Birthday Boy and a few other kids ran into the rain and danced and laughed. The rain was so heavy they were soaked in seconds ...
I'm doing a slide show for my daughter's sweet 16 party and I've been looking at old photos all week. They're so precious and when they're as amazing as yours, they're even doubly so! This family will LOVE these. And in 16 years they'll love them even more.
Babies on the brain. . .
I've been editing photos from my first newborn photo session all week and now I have babies on the brain. It's not "Sweet T's" fault that she's so cute and has this mama's ovaries aching. I'm still nervous about showing the photos to the family (mama and grandma specifically), ...
Oh, these are precious! I love that they're not the familiar textbook shots. Wonderful job; you can take my family photos any day!
It may turn out to be your best photo yet.
When it comes to taking photographs for families, I have a lot to learn. Still, I'd like to think that I've already learned a lot about what makes a good shot from newspaper photography. And from taking non-stop photographs of my son and nieces. For one, I've learned to never dismiss a shot tha...
Portraits of real strength. I don't know how they find the courage.
They walked to honor. . .
He died five years ago this September, in a roadside bomb in Iraq. His best friend was stationed with him. He was 19. He will be forever 19. They walk in each Memorial Day Parade. She carries the flag the military gave her at her son's funeral. He carries a photograph of his brother. ...
You know, he kinda reminds me of my 22 year old son who's home for the summer. He magically knows EVERYTHING and I truly believe he would like to tell me I'm not smart "in my brain." Instead he just sighs deeply and tries to explain why he's right and I'm wrong. Maybe I should go back to Time out?? Or C-span?
No mama, you not smawt. In you bwain . . .
I had asked Jonathan to grab the remote for me. He's younger, was going that way to grab a toy anyhow and darn it, I didn't want to get up. He did what he usually does and didn't acknowledge me. This ignoring stuff gets old after awhile and I'd had it. "Jonathan, bring me the remote," I said. I...
Ah, if only it was as easy to change our settings on our mood like it is on a camera...
The wrong mood
I was taking some photos at my parents the other day. Jonathan and I were down in the field in front of their house, wandering around the pond. We were zapping monsters with the laser tag set I bought at a yard sale the day before and I was trying to take artistic photographs of the field flowe...
You made them WALK in the woods and PLAY on bales of HAY?? Those POOR kids!!
They don't make kids like they used to.
When I was a little girl, I skipped through the woods with my friends, our legs scratched by twigs and prickly bushes or tall field grass. We fell into the creek, skipped across rocks and were covered in dirt. We hiked through the field back to my house with bruised knees and shins and dirt...
Lisa this is a beautiful post! Hubby and you are lucky to have one another for love and support. How great that you encouraged him to go see her, even tho it's difficult. I hope I get an awesome grandson like that one day.
And wonderful shots of your little guy!
Pretending
Hubby's grandmother has been moved to a nursing home after breaking her hip. It's something we hoped might never happen, but after years of strokes, heart attacks, and the onset of Alzheimer's it has been becoming more and more difficult for Hubby's grandfather to take care of his wife. In some ...
Hi Lisa.
Youve won the book giveaway!
My daughter picked the random number last night.
Congrats, I think youll like it.
Send me your address and Ill pop it in the mail tomorrow.
Life After Yes!!
Aidan Donnelley Rowley is one of us. I discovered her blog Ivy League Insecurities late last fall and was immediately drawn in by the artful way she spins her words. She is a wife, a mother of two little girls, a blogger, and a lawyer who left her job to write. Gutsy? Daring? You bet. On May ...
Oh, those little sisters.....
I love it, the parental command of THERE WILL BE NO TOUCHING. And then stopping and thinking What did I just say???
The eyeball incident, or why I bet my son is glad he's an only child
"No 2 of 5!! Stooop it!" We were on the way back from my parents, 45 minutes away -- two of my nieces, Jonathan and me. "What? I'm not doing anything!" 2 of 5* insists. "2 of 5 what are you doing?" I look in the rear view mirror at a grinning 7-year old. "Nuthin'!" she says and giggles. A few mo...
So cute. 3 is such a great age.
Theology discussion with a three-year old. Lord, help me!
Having a toddler brings so much to my mind that I had never thought of before, or haven't in a long time. One question from a toddler can send your head and your faith spinning. The other night I was trying to put Jonathan to bed and on the radio was our Christian radio station. The so...
Your dad would love my dad. HE believed Everything he reads in the newspaper...
He's not high. He's just really..uh...happy. Yeah. That's it
Sometimes my dad can be so negative and other times he seems incapable of believing anything bad about anyone. A couple weekends ago Dad, Jonathan and I went for a walk down to the old church at the bottom of the hill from my parents. Dad had a cemetery meeting and Jonathan needed to burn some ...
How true is that!
Can't keep a little boy down, can you??
Gotta love 'em.
I'm pretty sure everyone will assume he knocked them out. . .
I'm fairly certain that when the dentist pulled out Jonathan's teeth a couple weeks ago she also injected him with some kind of energy-boosting elixir. Since coming up from his sedation low our kid has been completely bouncing off the walls. A few days after the procedure my kid wanted to go on ...
OMG that looks good! Blogging buds are so awesome!
A tim-tam..what? An Australian education in one magnificent chocolate cookie
Friday was an exciting day in our household. First, it was Friday and I love my Fridays. Fridays mean that the weekend is coming up and I can spend the whole weekend with my toddler and husband. Second, I called Hubby to ask him a question and I heard this: "What's with this package from Austral...
Oh, I love it! My son once chased a four year old girl at the park when he was only two and a half, shouting "wait, stop, I LOVE you."
I knew then I was in trouble.
Get a really BIG STRONG lock...
And LOVE his Spidey shirt!!
Hello, ladies. . .
I don't know how he does it, but every time we go to the playground my kid ends up following some little girl and then she starts following him. The girls are usually blonds, sometimes brunettes. At first he says "hello" and shows her his best Iron Man pose and then blasts her. She usually...
Oh, such a tug on the heartstrings! This is beautiful and achingly true. I felt like that working with dying kids in Pediatrics. I could never take a day with my own kids for granted. Each is a gift.
The corner. . .
I hate the one corner of our local cemetery. It's the furthest corner of the cemetery, along a main road. And I hate it. But at the same time I love it. This is the cemetery down the street from my house. The cemetery that I can hear the chimes playing from early in the morning and as the sun...
If I wanted to learn something I'd go back to school. Reading your blog is much more fun.
Learning how to be a successful blogger...or NOT.
Do you ever read those blog-tip sites? The ones that offer suggestions for how to improve your blog and pull in readers? I've read those blogs, but apparently none of it has sunk in. I seem to do the exact opposite. Don't ramble, they say. I ramble. A lot. Don't blather on about your persona...
