Hello, I'm Helena. I live and love on Long Island with my husband, JW, and my daughter, My Girl. We live in a very little old blue house that is bursting at the seams with all my vintage fabrics and decor, together with our critters - 3 cats, one dog, Gretel, and a giant pond full of fish, turtles and frogs. My house is a work in progress, as am I. I love to find ways to put a little vintage love into my home, kitchen, garden and even myself. Oh, and I love to make things. I hope you’ll join me! XO I have an Etsy shoppe… blondie blu… handcrafted goods perfect for livin' a vintage cool life. blondie blu adores: --when your heart beats in anticipation of finding a treasure when you pop into a thrift shop or yard sale; --taking a piece of worn out furniture or sad, lonely old knick-knack, "dressing" it up a little and finding a new way to use it or display it, making you walk on air for days at a time with total satisfaction; --finding new ways to "waste not"; --just about every piece of vintage fabric in existence - really; --livin' a vintage cool life.

In Which The Weekend Gypsy is Coming Along
I'm still here! The past few weeks have gone by in a blur as I gathered together inventory, put finishing touches on wares, priced and packed goods and just generally organized and prepared. I moved into my new little shop on November 1st. But alas, my dear Canon camera has gone to camera heav...

Vintage Recipe Thursday - Martha's Company Casserole
For today's Vintage Recipe, I thought a casserole might be just the right thing as we all get busier and busier preparing for the holidays. It's so nice to be able to have a whole meal in one dish, and this recipe can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until you are ready to bake it. This r...

Thank you so much! Yes, I think the best part of the day was meeting many lovely new people. It really is what I love most about what I do. :) XO Helena
Now That It's Over...
I survived my first craft fair! And although I know I have already posted pictures of my mock up booth in every which way possible 'til you are all about to scream, I just NEED (yes, need) to post one more pic (I promise) of my actual booth all set up at the fair... It was hot and humid ...
Aw you are so sweet Holly. Wishing you a happy and very crafty day too!! XO Helena

Thanks Tammy! I understand where you are coming from with regard to WWII history and personal accounts etc. My parents were WWII vintage and I was so blessed to have them. That generation was very special people. They took nothing for granted, they were thankful for everything they had and they didn't need much to be happy. And I am sad that we are losing those wonderful people every day. Soon they will be all gone and we will all be poorer for it. On a happier note, I am so glad my blog has brightened up your day!! Thanks for visiting. XO Helena

Hi Karen! Thank you so much for visiting me. :) To answer your questions, the picture is a vintage crewel work and it is amazing!!! I found it at a thrift shop and couldn't believe my eyes. The frame on it, while good quality, was not complimentary, so I covered it in the vintage blue floral fabric you see on it now. If you would like a closer picture of it in case you would like to duplicate parts of it in your work, etc., I'd be happy to send you one. Just let me know!! Have a great day and thanks again for visiting. XO Helena
