The only time I have ever seen anyone reading a score on an Underground train was in New York. I was heading to Lincoln Center, and so was my score-reader is the location of four musical institutions and so increases the possibility.
I get looked at like I'm mental just for reading the New Statesman (all those densely packed words...), so I'm not at all surprised that score readers do. But have you ever seen anyone else do so?
So poor Gerald not only had to contend with randoms looking at him like he's mental but also Michael looking at him thinking 'That man reading a Wagner scores looks very like Gerald Finley...'
Batter My Heart
It is just over a week that I went to see the New York Metropolitan Opera's John Adams's Dr Atomic transmitted live to Clapham Picturehouse - in HD, as all the publicity emphasises. This is the production that has just finished its try-out run in New York before making its world premier at Engl...
I have now! Thank you :-)
Against my better judgement I then clicked on the clip from the same concert of Angela Gheorghiu and Sting "singing" La' ci darem la mano. Oh no...
You Tube
Some recent additions: Camcordered in Costa Rica - audience singalong Plácido conducts (watch him dance...) Juanito in My Song in Vienna in 2006 - I think it was a concert to mark the end of Austria's EU Presidency and then Granada, which is Pláci's song. No puede ser in Chichén Itz...
I truly considered that possibility but then concluded it was more likely Lesley Garratt, upset that I have uncovered her evil plot to destroy Katherine's career
Hello world
It seems like I have been without internet for days. Which is unsurprising, because I have! I first noticed it two weeks ago and reported it a week ago. On Tuesday engineers needed access to the house. Fortunately Jimmy was around. They decided they needed to climb the poll but couldn't do that ...
Well, he's due to do a semi-staged Dr A in Atlanta, but an 8 day break between performances would not preclude a trip back home.
What is the chances of ever seeing anybody reading a Wagner score, or a score of any sort, on the Tube, and for someone reading a Wagner score on the Tube to bear a close resemblance to a leading opera singer who is scheduled to sing Hans Sachs at Glyndebourne in 2011?
I had quite quite forgotten that until you made me process my memory. I was thinking I would like to see him as Scarpia. I reckon him as Scarpia, Jonas Kaufmann as Cavaradossi, cut out Vissi D'Arte and most of that soprano silliness and it would be ace!

Barbara, he did say they were others first - didn't name them - but in his view Plácido is the real revolutionary
An Evening with Eyebrows
A special evening tonight, spent in the company of the wonderful Rolando Villazón, soon to be appearing in Contes D'Hoffmann at the Royal Opera House. By the time I arrived there was a long queue of people waiting, I suppose to get the Prime seats, and by the time the queue had filed through t...
Thanks Parsi! I have watched a bit but I shall watch properly when my broadband gets fixed and I have more time!
Parsi has some clips of Pláci from Greek TV, an interview about 20 minutes in total. He also has a report from one of his global network of spies who was also present with Rolando last night, including some photos!

I thought about this overnight and concluded: if the ticket isn't in my personal history and I haven't received a confirmatory email, the ticket hasn't been bought. So I bought one this morning...
Extreme T.A.S.S
Where T.A.S.S is Ticket Acquisition Stress Syndrome... I knew that today tickets at Valencia's Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia were going on general sale. I didn't know what time but didn't think it would be before 8 am my time. It was actually at 10 am local time, 9 am my time. Not ideal but bett...
And, even better,
Thank you for your email.
I have managed to reserve one ticket for you to the In Conversation with Rolando Villazon on the 10 November at 7.30pm.
The ticket is priced at £10 ...
Please also accept our sincere apologies for the problems you experienced with the website yesterday; we are working hard to make sure that this does not happen in the future.
An open letter to the Royal Opera House
I am appalled and upset by the experience I have had today booking tickets. To cut a very long story short, I logged on 8 am and was put in the waiting room, where I waited. For half an hour. In the meantime I was exchanging emails with friends who were crashing out of the site. At half eight I...
