I had a little suburban envy this weekend. I spent some time with my "country cousins". Yea, the town pool in Wayne NJ is a lot different than the Red Hook Pool. But I don't think the porches and back yards are so attractive in the winter. Just suburban isolation, cul-de-sacs and cars.

Oh no, I am sorry unstructure is not working out. But my 9 year old twins are having a great summer while their Mom works 40 hours a week. We have learned to get the the Hall of Science at 2pm, so the campers are on their way out. The crazy rules at the Red Hook Pool made it a great quick swim. We got to the "city" for museum, lunch...playground. I know my kids are older but when I started thinking like a tourist, this "staycation" has been great. I so agree. I am a member of the WCS and can get to Coney Island in 20 minutes. I would rather drive 100 miles to Camden to see a better aquarium. I have even stayed overnight in Baltimore and Boston just to go to their aquariums. Instead of building a privately funded amusement park that looks like Vegas in Coney Island, they should use stimulus money and build a world class aquarium. The hotels and amusement park will follow

I am not a Mom, I am a Dad, a Stay at Home Dad. Anybody who refers to my daily activity as "baby sitting" gets their nose tweaked.

My kids have been ridding the subway since before they were born. I am sure they are immune to anything by now.

Yo, I like you list but #2????. Central Park... Glorious? Do you ever leave "The Rock". Last time I checked NYC got 5 boroughs. Prospect Park is much nicer than your Central Park and it ain't got no tourists. Forgetaboutit

If person quits smoking it's it worth it. Just one. There are lots of TV ads that tug on ones emotional strings. This one is trying to save lives.

I go to Starbucks all the time.... just to use the bathroom. But I buy my coffee at a local bodega. Small, locally owned shops might have a small staff that thinks the bathroom is their private space. The corporate mega-stores that have invaded NYC have no personal space for their impersonal staff. So, as I always say "Shop locally, pee nationally"
