You are rare, Mrs. Velveteen. Thank you for your voice and how you use it.
Blessing of the Fleet: Gulf Coast Oil Spill Week 8
The Blessing of the Fleet occurred on June 6 in Biloxi, Mississippi. After years of good intentions to attend the blessing and boat parade but never managing more than catching it by chance from a waterside room at the Beau Rivage once, we made a point to witness the event this year. The year ...
Youre such a good friend, Joanne.
Thank you.
On Freedom and the Blossom
The snow here has finally let go in the sun. A few days get warm enough to remind us of Spring, a coming time, though the ground still crunches with frost underfoot. The sniffles and the water puddles in the drive have kept us cooped in exhausted routines, in the smells of sick winter. The ...

Love
This
Post!
Dedra, you're an automatic love. I bet you've always been that way, and I'm so glad I got to meet some fellow Alabama girls.
the lingering bliss of Blissdom 2010
Honestly, I don't know what I was thinking. Well, I do know. I love all things social media. Twitter, Facebook and blogging. I haven't been as consistent with my blog.. but awww lawdy, that has changed. Following the Twitter hashtag #Blissdom will let you in on just a few things: women blog...
Right on, Megan.

You're the coolest.
For the record, I remember watching Puff the Magic Dragon, and I literally wailed aloud, weeping and gnashing my teeth. I was very little. I couldn't help it.
If I Don't Write It Down I'll Forget
I'm trying to grease up these rusty brain cells of mine and get back to writing the occasional blog post--not a bad thing to do when one has, you know, a blog. I've been working on a post documenting the vacation we took over the holidays, but as the story involves abject humiliation, I've been ...
THis! This, I love. So good, Robin.
It makes me ache. I love the stuff that makes me ache.
Chasing Sandman
My palm settles on the knotty valley of his spine, perfectly centered between bony, flesh-covered peaks; I remember when my hand covered his back. That was a "yesterday" over 12 years in the making. Though past experience tells me he's going to say something that will sweetly sting my heart, I'm...
I think it's courageous - awkward, but courageous.
It never occurred to me to pray for Tiger Woods--#ChristianFAIL?
Well, now...Brit Hume's suggestion that Tiger Woods needs to embrace the Christian faith surprised me (on national television, no less...!). What are your thoughts after watching this clip??
Gorgeous, you.
Oh what a tangled...
This morning I was entangled by silvery threads beaded in dew. Spun and woven and snowflake-unique, patterned and random and each a gossamer masterpiece. Delicate garland adorning iron tree, beauty softening hardened beast. Life-sustaining for one, life-taking for another. Home and to...
Oh, I love that you didn't cancel. Just look at the plates! Thank you for sharing it with us. I've loved hearing these friendship descriptions.
I'm missing you, and I hope you're feeling better.
A little party of sorts
A few weeks ago I wrote about how excited I was to have a "reason" to use my darling soup plates I've had for years but have used only once; Amber, The Runamuck, encouraged her readers to celebrate "friendship" by hosting a "Sister Party". I've thought about hosting a get together with friends ...
My firstborn draws little stick people for me, and that really blesses my heart.
What "blesses YOUR heart"?
What are the little, almost ignorable things that touch you...that can turn a frown upside down and absolutely make your day? It's almost a joke in my home, the teensy things that "bless" me. {This is more a Southernism than a spiritual blessing, though sometimes they're 'bout one in the same...
Well, let me tell you, if you knew about my little problem with bringing home too many dishes, you'd know just how much I love and understand the idea of using glass as an excuse to have a party. I'm a country girl who could eat cereal with a wooden spoon, but I L o v e my fancy dishes. I don't know how it happened.
I'm so pumped that you're doing this.
I love you.
Amber
It's as good a reason as ANY to have a party!
I'm hosting a party on Friday for one of the silliest reasons on the planet. Once upon a time I would buy anything if it was on sale for at least 75% off. With great enthusiasm I would justify rationalize explain to my husband "BUT-HONEY-LOOK-HOW-MUCH-MONEY-I-SAAAAVED!!!" while he would just sh...
I just did a heel kick in midair for you.
You're so pretty, by the way. I love you.
Time Magazine: Page 64
Okay, so this might not be a big deal to you, and I know it really doesn't "matter"...but daggum it, I'M QUOTED IN TIME MAGAZINE THIS WEEK!! Picked up from the online article I mentioned a few weeks ago, they decided to include it in print. The cover story might be "The Tragedy of Detroit" bu...
This is so great, Shannon. I don't know if I'll be able to forget "Be Strong. Be Squished."
A Very Squishy Public Service Announcement
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so I'm rerunning an old post I originally published last fall. This summer I got a birthday card from my health insurance company. "Congratulations!" it read. "You're 36! To help you celebrate, we'd like to pay for you to have your tender anatomy squ...
How fun is that?!
GOOOOOOOOAL!!!
It's not easy to take pictures when you're screaming at the top of your lungs.... I was so excited, I couldn't focus...my baby is to the left, the goalie is laid out with NOTHING in his hands, and the ball is nested comfortably just out of the frame to the right...e...
Just wow at this post and these comments, too. You make me think of Hope, where I put my hope, where I spend my money.
I would never have known about the Tide bottle caps. I'm in.
You are so careful with the sound of your words. They're beautiful. I'd probably buy anything you told me to.

My baby is in surgery right now, and though they’ve given me the update that “everything is going well and she’s doing fine,” my baby is in surgery right now. I inhale fully and hold the breath. It’s not because of illness or disease, it’s just routine oral surgery; impacted wisdom teeth and bon...
I'm proud of this, your words here. I love this post.
Anticipation of Her Self
These days, my focus is going small. My mind is a tight-angle lens. All I see is my family. All I hear is the simple laughter. All I feel is anticipation of the weight of a baby girl in my arms as she impatiently kicks her way to her birth day. I rock in the glider in my sons’ room and instin...

When I have a lot of yard work to do, I get my boys to follow me around like we're in a parade. We play pretend instruments and march. It's so sweet and can last a long time.

The music, the mystery, the terror of night
I stepped out my back door at 8:37 p.m. last night, swayed by last year's "shrinking" and unworn clothes in my closet, determined to counter age and metabolism and years of Chick-Fil-A nuggets and fries, to pursue health and fitness and that damnable, elusive fountain of youth. My commitment to...
