I'm sorry you missed my favorite street in Greensboro, Zev Place--it's the short street just south of Wendover between Church St. and Cherry St. Google maps has it here: http://tinyurl.com/ZevPlace2 Maybe you can use it in the next series.

My first alcoholic drink was a martini at noon in a New Orleans Howard Johnson's the Friday before Mardi Gras in 1962, but that's another story. "Martinis are like women's breasts--one's not enough and three's too many."

Then there's the old story about signs outside gas stations as you travel through the Old South: in Virginia they say "Comfort Stations", in NC it's "Rest Rooms", in SC it's "Indoor Plumbing", and in GA it's "Pecans". I see the Karo recipe you linked to says that one can use Karo "lite" syrup for a reduced calorie version of the recipe. Do you know how much, if any, of the sugar/brown sugar could be replaced with Splenda?

Glenn Reynolds posted a link to a Megan McArdle article on this same Limbaugh episode. He then posted an update which said "UPDATE: Meh. Read the transcript. Limbaugh bit is obvious parody, which Dreher didn’t catch, and Megan didn’t notice that he didn’t catch, and I didn’t notice that Megan — oh, never mind. Anyway, much ado about nothing much." So, Ed, did you also not notice it was parody as well, or do you still think it is ado about something much?

Ed: " "70,000 to 2,000,000" is a farcical range -- it's not an estimate, it's pathetic ass-covering by one of the outlets that willingly bit on the invented number in the first place." I thought Charlie Martin did a good job of analyzing crowd estimates in the cited article. He reported the 70K to 2,000K estimates and their sources. He didn't approve of them all. He seemed to like the 850,000 estimate. My point, which I guess I didn't make very clearly, was that you selected to highlight a very low estimate in your link to the Media Matters article. Your choice of this number says a lot about your credibility in reporting "facts".

How big was the crowd? 70,000 to 2,000,000. Pick your favorite source. I've always thought your blog was more accurate than the legacy media. When it comes to partisan issues, I may need to re-evaluate that opinion. You're just as ideological as Powerlineblog!

Every time I think about the purported evils of second-hand smoke, I recall that it is likely that in every breath we take we inhale a molecule that Jesus breathed. And by extenssion, every breath contains a molecule Hitler breathed, and Stalin breathed, and Typhoid Mary, and every other person that lived in the past 50 or more years ago. Because of this mixture of molecules, it seems less important that some also may have come from a smoker across the room. I try to remain tolerant of other folks foibles. Drink and let smoke, I say.
