"Is [Hume] say that there is causation but all it is is regular succession, or is he saying that there is no causation?" Hello Bill. I'm not sure if you're familiar with it or not, but you may be interested in the following Hume quote that is taken from the 3rd edition of Reasonable Faith by William Lane Craig. I'll include the source Craig gives if you're interested in trying to track down the book. "But allow me to tell you that I never asserted so absurd a Proposition as that anthing might arise without a cause: I only maintain'd, that our Certainty of the Falsehood of that Proposition proceeded neither from Intuition nor Demonstration, but from another source." David Hume, The letters of David Hume, 2 vols., ed. J.Y.T. Greig (Oxford: Clarendon, 1932), 1:187.
Congratulations on your first 5 years, I hope there will be many more to come. One reason why I follow your blog regularly is that you do a great job of balancing technicality and accessibility. Many of your posts are rather technical (which I think they would need to be if one is to do philosophy properly) yet they usually aren't so technical that they cannot be understood by us undergrads/mere mortals. I'm usually content to lurk, leaving the comments to those who have more experience in philosophy than I do. But I feel as though I am learning much. As is the case with many things, if I want to get better at philosophy, I need to challenge myself. So thank you for challenging me, Bill. I also want to thank you for answering a question on your blog that I sent to you a couple months back via email. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question in detail.
