WOW - Heartless commenters to say the least, things happen to people and anyone can get themselves in a bad situation. I feel sorry for the battered mother and horrible that this poor baby had to die. This man is a disgrace, a horrible monster. He should get the death penalty. As for DCF, they suck. My cousin and her husband were on drugs and DCF failed their 30 day old son, who is now dead because his parents were to high to remember he was in the car, in July, for 4 hours. DCF goes after good parents for little things and cases like this are never properly followed up on. What is the point of DCF if they are not protecting the child. DCF has failed many before, falsifying records and just plain not following up. The workers involved in this case should be fired and never work for any DCF office or program. Poor Baby!!

I don't really care what any of you think, honestly. My children are 21 and 17 and I have never had a minute when I didn't know where they were and what they were doing, why is that you ask, because I am a good mother who never slept when I was alone with my children. I did everything with them, took them everywhere. I would never even sleep while they were napping unless my husband was around and awake. This would have never happened to me because I was aware of the dangers children can face. My job as a mother is to protect and care for my children and I have always done just that. Take all your meaningless comments to hell with you. I AM A GOOD MOTHER AND MY CHILDREN HAVE GROWN UP SAFE AND HAPPY.

How on gods green earth can anybody summize from the above story that the driver was eother texting or talking on a cell phone or that the garbage truck was not properly lit up, pretty sad how EVERYONE thinks they know it all. Make me sick. BUT on the other hand I do agree 100% with a hands free law for cell phones, seniors that can hardly drive are always using cell phones while driving and most dont even know how to use the cell phone, I saw one man throw his out the window while driving after throwing his hands up in frustration at the phone. Not only seniors, but the invinsible teenagers that are hardly responsible enough to change their underwear everyday that Florida lets drive, I SAY HANDS FREE LAW ALL THE WAY!!

Pleasethinkfirst - Why should we think first when the state doesn't.... In the eyes of Florida "Justice" you are guilty until proven innocent, and yes I know this first hand. Through incidents with my children and husband, my youngest son and husband were both arressted for something they didn't do... we still had to pay court costs... This frigin state is screwed up beyond any imagination.. Give me a break with your BS, don't want to hear it, I know better than that.

This is why parents should not fall asleep when they have small children in the home... Is Mom going to be charged with neglect, because that is exactly what this is, plain and simple... The states attorney hasn't filed charges?? The poor kid who endured the brutal attack now has to be afraid these kids will retaliate for him reporting the incident... Unbelievable, not really but pathetic is more like it... Kids these days just don't get it.... Not only will the parents be upset when they get the bill for the damages, but when the kids are arressted and they have to pay for a lawyer, court costs, cost of care, etc.... Selfish brats!

What a terrible story, I have a 21 y/o and a 16 y/o boy, I would be devastated if I were this mother. It is terrible what is going on with gangs... Something has to be done and fast before Florida becomes entirely full of gangs, terrible how we have to live in fear because these people think they are above the law and higher than God... My prayers to the family of this very young man.
