I've kept track of every book I've read since April of 1974. Yes...almost 40 years! I didn't start putting exact dates on them until after I had over 100 on the list. I'm currently somewhere in the vicinity of 1300 titles (and I do list them again if I re-read them, for example, today, I finished The Hobbit for at least the third time). I don't know the exact number, because the list is at home and I'm at work right now. A few years back, I put my list on a spreadsheet on the computer, but I still keep a written copy in a notebook from my college. With the spreadsheet, it's much easier to find out if I've read a book before.

That was cool. I read 418 wpm. I was fairly pleased with that, although disappointed that I was below the "average college student." I think I used to read faster. Darn the Internet! But it was 67% higher than the average person. So I'm cool with that. Incidentally, I have a "reading list" that I have kept with for almost 40 years, starting in April of 1974. Yesterday, I finished book number 1267. A little over 33 books per year, on average. Not too shabby, I guess.

I won't be blogging Idol this year. I don't have time because we're working out every night, and not getting home in time to even watch it on the right night. I'm a little bothered by this whole Jermain thing, because I have to wonder why they didn't already know about this. What, they don't do background checks on these people before they put them in the live shows? I find that hard to believe. Ah, well...Jessica Sanchez is going to run away with it this year, anyway. It's time for a girl winner...WAY past time, in fact! I look forward to reading your recaps again. God bless you! Jeff

I'm kind of half and half, still. I love my Sony Reader, but I still buy real books, too, especially because I still visit Half-Price Books. And I still haven't figured out how to get ebooks from my library. I need to work on that.

Pregnant...now that would be just the best ending ever.

Just watched it tonight. We DVR everything and watch it on different nights. Except for, you know, American Idol and stuff like that. :-) Anyway. I liked it until the end. (Wasn't that annoying lawyer in "Moonlighting??") But it gave us something to look forward to, huh? I think my favorite part was when Captain Raydor was watching her speech to the other cop about following the rules. "You think she's aware of what she's saying?" That was funny!

We love The Closer and have been sad that it is ending this season. But I'm surprised (pleasantly) to learn that there will be episodes next summer. Also surprised to hear of the spinoff. We had not heard about that. Like you, I have mixed feelings about Captain Raydor. I love the actress...loved her in Battlestar, but her character has rubbed me much the wrong way. LOL... I do hope that Flynn and Provenza will be in the new show. In fact, I'm pretty fond of all of the characters.

I'm edging back into my "conspiracy theory" mode with Idol. I'm not sure our "votes" really matter... I'm not so sure that the producers don't decide who wins. Remember last year? There's no WAY Lee should have won that competition. Anyway...they really need a girl to win this year. It's been quite a long time since a girl won (Jordin?), so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Lauren/Haley finale.

Good one. I agree about those pants. Gah! So you don't like the cooking, huh? I'm a big fan of Ramsay's after one season of Hell's Kitchen. I thought I would hate him, but he's not as mean as I thought he was. Next week is going to be tough.

I agree with you on James's first song. It wasn't just your unfamiliarity with the song. It was solidly his worst performance of the season. Haley...wow. Just wow. I guess she's too much like Casey...doesn't fit into one of those pop/rock niches that America seems so fond of.

Hey, Robin. I agree with you on the final duet. My wife liked it and even thought Jacob did okay, but I didn't like it. I thought Scotty did very well on "You've Got A Friend." And, as I said in my blog, the four singers under James were all very, very close. Once we get rid of Jacob, it's going to be very difficult. I keep saying I don't understand why Haley keeps getting in the bottom three. With all due respect, she can sing rings around Lauren. Anyway, for me, they are all very, very close. The fact that I put Lauren and Scotty in the "bottom three" doesn't mean that I didn't like them last night. Jacob should be the whole bottom three. All by himself. LOL!! Honestly, I think it was James on top, the other four in the middle, and Jacob at the bottom.

Oh, so that was Kanye? Yuck. If I had known that, I would have fast forwarded through the whole song. Anyway...saw your comment on my blog. Funny. I'll join you in that venture. I guess I'll go look and see who "Vote for the worst" is pushing now...LOL. Happy "Resurrection" Day, Robin!

Haha. You didn't like much of anything last night, did you? I'll agree that it wasn't a fantastic night. But I'm a big fan of Muse, and I listened to the song by Muse after the show was over, and James did a really good job on it. A couple of the high notes were a little off. But I remember, you never liked Adam's screeches, either. :-) And that's fair enough. Those are the kind of things you either like or don't like...not much middle ground. I though Haley nailed "Rolling in the Deep." Again, there was one specific note that troubled her a couple of times, but otherwise, I think it was a perfect song for her. I do hope we are both right about who leaves tonight, though. See you then!--Jeff

Wow, we were both close. You said Jacob, Paul, and Haley, and I said Jacob, Stefano, and Haley. And it turns out to be Paul, Stefano, and Haley. It's going to get tougher each week, now, unless someone just blows it.

So sorry to hear your back is still hurting. Praying for a quick recovery. I was a little surprised to see you name James as a favorite, what with the heavy metal and screaming and all. It was fun, though. My favorite part was all the contestants that told Jimmy Iovine to stick it. Plus, I'm really annoyed that Will-i-am has become a permanent fixture on the show. He has nothing worthwhile to say. Pft.

I also don't think the save on Casey was wasted. I still think he has an outside chance at winning, especially now that Pia is gone. Like you, Robin, I'm still stunned. I think Randy might have said a bad word. The camera cut away from him as his mouth was forming an "F." I wish we could see who was getting the top votes every week. But I guess it's good that we don't. I have often suspected that one of the "bottom three" was a "ringer," and not really in the bottom three. Just to shake things up a bit, you know? Can't prove that though...and I'm a conspiracy nut anyway. Heh. I don't disagree with the thoughts on Iggy, either. I was looking forward to seeing him (he truly is a rock "icon"), but then I wished that I hadn't. Nice quote from your Bible study, by the way. Always good to get back to what is TRULY important, you know? By the way...I don't know if you know about it, but I also do a devotional blog on Wordpress. It's at bickleyhouse.wordpress.com.

I didn't even notice that they didn't do a group song until you pointed it out. I'm with you. I wish they would do that every week. And we certainly agreed on the Foxx/i-am thing. Oh, and Casey was playing a bass guitar, ala Paul McCartney style. And your country kids did a pretty good job tonight. :-)

Even my wife thought I was a little rough on Lauren last night. She probably wasn't bad enough for my bottom three. Vocally, she did well, but I didn't care for the arrangement. If I were to go back and revisit my rankings I might bump her up and put Thia or Jacob in the bottom three. You are definitely right about Jacob's facial expressions in that song. Hey, two of our favorites are the same, so that's not bad. :-) Elton does have one more "coutry-ish" song that Scotty could have sung, but it may not have been on their "list" (I'm assuming they probably have one). It's called "Roy Rogers," and is also on the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album (along with Candle in the Wind, and Bennie and the Jets). I assume you're seeing Elton with Leon Russell? You'll have to let me know how that show goes. I've never gotten to see Elton, even though he was one of my piano inspirations in the seventies.

I have to confess I was moved by the "Happy Birthday" thing. But I'm still baffled at Casey being on the bottom! Not surprised at all that Stefano was there, and slightly surprised that Thia wound up there. But, as we both said, the performances were all so good Wednesday, that it could have easily been anyone there. I was in tears by the end of the show. Casey's reaction...I've never seen anything quite like that. Of course, the cynic in me wonders if the whole thing was scripted. Haha...see you next week.

Hi, Robin. I read your review last night, but we didn't get through until almost 10pm, so I was tired. I get what you say about not getting a "Wow," last night. I only got the goosebumps once, and that was during Pia's performance. It was the most fun I've ever had watching an Idol episode! Possibly the best performance show that I've ever seen. It makes me continue to wonder if they finally fixed the stage mix. See you tonight!

Wow. We agree so much. There are some slight differences, but a lot of that I ascribe to our different tastes in music. Like you, I don't get Jacob at all. And I, too, wonder what the judges are listening to. I didn't like Pia as much as you did. I think she's good, but that song didn't do it for me. Song choices are, once again, turning out to be pivotal in the competition. Stefano knocked it out of the park last night. I seriously had goose bumps and was almost in tears, and he has never been a favorite of mine. Thanks for your comment on my blog. See you tonight!

Hi, Robin. We pretty much agreed right down the line. I don't give numbers, but I would have been lower on Naima, Jacob, and Ashthon. I thought those performances were, as Simon would have said, "horrid." My opinion was a little clouded by how much I dislike "Umbrella." Stupid song. Heh. Anyway. And I wasn't blown away by Pia. I like her, but that particular arrangement just got too repetitive for me. And I guess I don't like Garth enough to appreciate Scotty's performance. It was just "eh" for me. At the end, I voted for Casey, James, Pia, Thia, and Haley. Great job, as always, on the review. See you tonight!
