Netflix screwed up because they should have thought about CC back when putting their streaming system in place instead of letting it get so big and bloated using multiple devices to the point that they no longer have a quick fix when facing a lawsuit such as this.
I'm surprised nothing like this lawsuit are happening with rental discs too as I've found a lot of them don't offer subtitles by stripping them out with the other special features. Subtitles are not a special feature.
Netflix & Other Companies Face Yet Another Lawsuit Over Captions
Despite promising to caption 80% of streaming titles by the end of the year, Netflix is facing another lawsuit according to a press release filed by deaf activist John F. Banzhaf. The lawsuit was filed against Netflix, TiVo, Apple, Panasonic & Toshiba: Netflix and four other high tech corporati...

I watched one of these and all it was were bits of war footage during ww2 and korea and pictures and short films of crime and vehicle accidents being investigated. There isn't much footage of people being killed it's more the aftermath of these events. This seemed kind of tame compared to what can be found easily on the internet. I feel exposure to this kind of footage can be a good thing as it teaches life isn't all unicorns and rainbows and help prevent war and violent crimes due to showing you the reality of what goes on. It's similar to drivers ed videos showing the aftermath of accidents to get them to think about their behavior and outcomes.
Should Netflix Rent the Death Scenes Movies that Depict Real Deaths? Update: Removed
Update: Netflix has removed the titles and issued the following statement: "The titles came in a bundle of content, we became aware of the nature of the content, reviewed it and removed it. While packaged as a documentary, it clearly is not." Davis Freeberg makes an interesting point about where...
I just cut down from 2 out with blu-ray to streaming only due to this reason. They don't seem to give a crap about catalog titles anymore. I'm now pirating again for the first time in 3 years.
Is the Netflix Blu-ray Surcharge Fair Based on Selection & Availability of Titles?
Jamie writes, "I have been a longtime netflix subscriber going on 3 years. I decided to invest in a Blu Ray Player about a year ago, and then I decided to upgrade my Netflix membership to Blu-Ray before they increased the fee. Today I switched to Blockbuster online. The facts of the matter is ...
My disc died after about 2 months. Oddly it causes weird problems when I put the disc in my 80gb PS3. It will no longer read any disc after I put in the netflix disc until I do a restore of defaults on my PS3 and then discs start being read again. I've been afraid to use my disc or get a replacement as I already had to repair this PS3 due to a optical drive malfunction. I find it very odd that single disc can block the drive from working which makes me wonder what's different about this disc compared to games, DVD and Blu-ray movies?
Netflix PS3 Streaming Disc Problems Still Persist?
FearNo1 writes, "Does the PS3 make the netflix streaming DVD unreadable after a few uses? My brother is requesting his 3rd DVD from Netflix." In December readers reported problems with the PS3 disc, and I'm wondering if people are still having problems. Have you had any problems with the Netflix...
I've had it happen 4 times. Just in the last month I've gotten an extra disc twice which has been nice.
Have You Received a Complimentary Netflix DVD?
Lifehacker has a story today about how to get an extra Netflix DVD, but the basis of the story is wrong. The story suggests adding discs that DVDs that are probably in high demand to get an extra disc shipped to you, but this has been Netflix's customer support policy since December, 2008 for sh...
I'm in Seattle and I've been with Netflix for about 2 years and have only rented Blu-rays. I've yet to receive a single one with a crack or scratch. I hear about this issue on the net a lot so I'm always checking over the discs, but the track record so far for me is excellent.
Have You Received A Cracked DVD or Blu-ray Disc from Netflix?
I recently received a couple of complaints about cracked discs from Netflix: Joan writes, "I received almost every Blu-ray disc cracked for the past month. I have reordered the same disc up to 3 times. I always mark the crack and write cracked disc on the outside of the mail in envelope. I chec...
I got the same e-mail. The 2% is sort of ridiculous as it only takes 25-50 cents off your bill depending on your plan.
Website Outages Face Netflix, Dell & GMail
It's scary how dependent we've become on web-based services, and in the past 48 hours we've seen outages from several major companies: Netflix gave streaming customers a credit due to an unplanned outage. [thanks to Del, Max, Tim, and jP for sending this in]. Blockbuster was offline, but thi...
I just watched Adventureland and Children of the Corn on Blu-Ray. Adventureland was a disappointment IMO.
