It certainly cheered me up on Blue Monday.
The spoof Downfall video that got Tom Harris fired as Labour's social media tsar
I agree with you JJF, well put.
Alistair Darling: An independent Scotland using Sterling as a currency would be a "ludicrous position to get yourself into"
Why not use Sterling in post Independence Scotland? They Pound Scots or "poond" if you like could be tied to the Pound Sterling and indeeed Eire could do the same, ditch the Euro and tie their Punt to our pound. All could have equal value and be usable in both islands, thus a Scots note or coin with say William Wallace on it would be usable in England, our notes with the Queen's head in all the other countries , and Punts, Ulster Pound Notes, Scots currency and those form the IOM and Channel Islands also legal tender in England etc.
Thus we could have a mini-sterling area as the ROIs economy has long been close to ours.

Just like Galtieri in Argentina with the Falklands War. Nothing like a war with Johhny Foreigner to take the minds of the folks back home off of domestic issues.
Cameron: Syria's Assad is "appalling"
None of our business, stay out! Dave, you have had your war, a milk run with no casualities fought from the air in Libya. Syria would NOT be so easy a fight and British lads would come home in body-bags.
Forget the Imperial Echoes Cameron, save your fight for tackling Merkosy in the EU.
As for those here who want a war with Syria, if you are young and fit enough, especially all those fresh faced young men in Think Tanks who post articles here from time to time, then quit your job, join the Armed Forces and go and fight for what you profess to believe in. It's easy to be an Armchair Warrior.
Cameron: Syria's Assad is "appalling"
I am building up a library of DVDs and now Blu-Ray disks to watch for the 2 weeks when the Olympics hits the screen and saturates all live broadcasts. I am already finding it a catastrophic bore and am fed up with the whining voice and smug face of Seb Coe. I only hope that London does NOT take a bath on this as most other host cities have done and am very pleased that, AFAIK, my home town of Reading is not involved to any great extent in this beanfeast.
Jeremy Hunt: Everyone in the UK should "grasp the opportunity" offered by the Olympic Games
No suprise there! Cameron will talk a big talk but take no walk on this issue.
Chuka Umunna: Cameron has fallen short on his promise to curb executive pay
I agree wih Grahame Morris MP! Guns are made to kill or maim. Unless one is a member of the Armed Forces, a Police Officer or Security Services Officer authorised to hold and use them, a farmer who needs them for vermin control or a licenced Game Hunter then I simply cannot see any need for an ordinary person to own a firearm. Obviously we need stronger controls on those who have Firearm Certificates and Shotgun Licences and more regular checks on their mental stability etc.
Labour MP Grahame Morris says gun laws may need review after County Durham shootings
BBC report on the shootings.
I totllay agree with PP on this! I have no problem with the person who perhaps uses a legacy to buy a single house or flat to let or who inherits their parents' home and let's it rather than sells it but these big operators that PP describes are the Property Barons who effectively block the first time buyer from being able to afford a flat/home of their own. The State should intervene to correct this distortion and ensure a level playing field.
Grant Shapps promises jail for some tenants who profit from sub-letting social housing
Specious argument! Those who OWN their homes be that outright or on a mortgage can let them out during Wimbledon etc. No doubt they will have to pay tax on this income. good luck to them!
Those who sub-let a subsidised Council House without permission are cheats. They buck the system and deprive those entitled to such housing, from their points accrued and their housing need, of these homes. I hope Shapps does not back down on this and those caught are evicted and if needs be jailed!
The Market does not exonorate those who are morally wrong. That is a very poor excuse.
Grant Shapps promises jail for some tenants who profit from sub-letting social housing
Totally with Shapps on this one! This is a bigger problem than some care to think and it cheats the decent applicant who has waited on the Housing List to amass sufficient points to qualify for a Council House the correct way. Buying a house to let is one thing, but having the subsidised tenancy of Social Housing to then make a profit at the "Ratepayers" expense is simply wrong.
I hope that the Law against such activity will have Custodial Sentences for the worst offenders.

Yet last week when this story broke from France he dismissed it as a storm in a D Cup as it were.
I am glad he is now to take this matter seriously but yet again a Cabinet Minister reacts the worng way to begin with and gives a bad impression.
Andrew Lansley orders expert inquiry into safety of breast implants
By Tim Montgomerie Follow Tim on Twitter The Health Secretary has restated his view there is no evidence that the French breast implants are unsafe but he is setting up an expert panel to investigate new data. Further to my tweet last week I do wonder if it would be more reassuring for a clinici...
Nor any Tory MPs either! I think the old Wavertree seat was the last one and its MP Anthony Steen went to a seat in the West Country. The new Moseley Hill seat was Lib-Dem for a while but now all the Liverpool Seats are Labour.
The Thatcher government transformed Liverpool, claims Lord Heseltine
Meanwhile in this video Geoffrey Howe says he never supported "managed decline" for Liverpool.
Heseltine's role after the Liverpool riots is well documented. Being alive and politically aware at the time I can well remember his involvement and stance on these events.
Now did or did not Howe make these remarks about leaving Liverpool to "managed decline"? If he didn't then some person or organisation is defaming him. Howe is a lawyer and knows the remedies available to him in Court.
If however he DID say or write this then he has to stand by his words.
I cannot see how such an alledged statement can be spun to any positive meaning, but I am sure that some will try.

I do wonder what the response would be from a FEMALE Health Secretary if we had one?
Andrew Lansley explains why he doesn't think faulty breast implants need to be removed
You Cameroons just don't get it! This idea is the proverbial Dead Parrot. Launched 4 -or is it 5 times- by Cameron and it has sunk every time. Face up to it, it is a dead loss, this horse won't run, it's a flop. British people have seen through it as another Cameron Con-Trick, pay the same or even more, get less and do it yourself inn your precious leisure time. Sorry the voters aren't that stupid!
A New Year Resolution for Cameron. Drop the Big Society and never use those two words again in any speech you make.
Michael Burnett: I have seen the Big Society at work...but it just happens to be in Germany and the Netherlands
Michael Burnett was a candidate for the European Parliament in the West Midlands in 2009 Is it really possible to engage citizens in caring about their communities? Or have we gone too far down the route to believing that “It’s the state’s job to create healthy communities”? In what circumstanc...
This shows what a nation of emasculated whimps PC has made us. I despair of Modern Britain.

Andrew Lilico: The term "coloured" is old-fashioned, not offensive
There is a big and silly fuss today about Alan Hansen's remarks on Match of the Day in which (in the context of discussing racism in football) he said "There's a lot of coloured players in all the major teams and there's a lot of coloured players that are probably the best in the Premier League....
"The best Prime Minister this country will ever have" ?????????
I assume you will be waiting up for Santa on Xmas Eve too of you believe that!
Peter Bone MP talks to Radio 4 about who would become PM if Cameron was (God forbid) killed
> More from Peter Bone on this subject.
But is that actually written down anywhere? Why the Foreign Secretary, why not the Chancellor, or even the Leader of the House? We need a stated order of succession as they have in the USA should their President be killed or seriously incapacitated.

Given how Left the "Red" Green Watermelon Party is I am very sceptical as to the veracity of this conversion. Had he he defected to Labour or even the Lib-Dems I might believe it but to the Cobservatives? What next, Catholic Orangemen?
Green Party councillor defects to Conservatives

Gross over-reaction yet again by Flashman Cameron! If Burley had worn an SS Uniform himself and toasted the Third Reich then that would be serious indeed. That he did not is the point. Just because other guests at this stag night, where young men get drunk and often do things they later regret, did this outwith of Burley's control does not make him a closet Nazi or are we using "Guilt by Association"?
A strong "Rollocking" in private by the Chief Whip and a warning as to his future conduct and to seek more suitable friends would have been quite sufficient.

Certainly I feel we are in the later days as we can see the signs foretold in Revelation and elsewhere in prophesy all slotting into place at this time.

Only in England could one have a ward called "Frisby on the Wreake". This is one of the quaint aspects I so love about our little country. In some countries it would be "Melton-Ward 6 or whatever".
