Congrats to you and Daisy. There is no doubt she will be one loved puppy.
17 November
I know the conventional wisdom of blogging is never to share a big post on a weekend, or really even a Monday or Friday. But who cares about conventional wisdom? This is exciting! We brought this little lady home today. Her name is Daisy. She's 8 weeks old. We love her already. Long ago,...
I thought the same thing.
autumn into winter
So it wasn't exactly the Nor'easter some were talking about coming in these parts, but we did wake up to snow. Not just any snow, but the First Snow! And because I'm the Mama, and Mama's get to do such things as this, I declared today an official Snow Day. Home from our regularly sche...
Happy Green Mountain State vacation. It looks like you may be in Stowe.
17 :: june {postcards from vermont}
At the Vermont Welcome Center Adam found another guy to talk about this amazing Dory. I wish I got better shot from above, it was so beautiful inside. A visit to our favorite Farmers Market. Sweet and perfect in every way. An indoor Living Machine at the rest area...
Thank you for the recipe. I am bringing the shrimp salad to a Front Porch Friday party.
Today
Ina's shrimp salad with some pasta, and a pretty little kitty catching some Zs. That's all. Nothing much. (And a whole lot, really. Favorite kind of day.)
Oh, the colors of the doilies. Fabulous.

For the first time in months, we had a weekend with no commitments. Absolutely nothing planned. It had been so long since we had that luxury, I hardly knew what to do with myself. After a leisurely Saturday morning, I pulled out a sewing project, one that has been waiting in the wings a...
My spirit needs to be renewed. I've been a funk for too long.

Wishing you a Merry! Thank you for the wonderful gift of sharing your life and talent with us. Happy New Year!
And just like that
I woke up this morning to one paperwhite in bloom. It made my day. The one handmade gift was finished today. Phew. Photos will come after Christmas, ok? The rest is all under control, or as much control as I'm going to have. You know what I mean, right? It's December and it's busy and that's l...
Simply beautiful. As a resident of Holly Street, holly holds a special place in my heart.
26 November
This morning I took some time away from the chaos and spent a few hours making wreaths with a friend; it was such a respite in what is such a busy time of year to take a morning just to make wreaths and drink tea without distractions. We both agreed it would be a new tradition! We started wi...
This is how we have always done ours. I use a container and half fill it with either stones or marbles. Set your bulbs on top and fill with water until the bulbs are half submerged. I place the container in a warm sunny spot and make sure you add water as needed.

I made it! I made it! My third year in a row to complete the November NaBloPoMo challenge. I love doing it but it's exhausting, too. Tomorrow we'll start our Advent activities. The little stockings are ready and waiting, and our traditional first activity, planting paperwhite bulbs (they have,...
Buying paper white bulbs at our feed store are on my to-do-list for the weekend. Along with cutting the Christmas tree, and buying ice-skates at our local Rec Center ski/skate sale.

Such sweet gnomes and your dragon looks ready for many adventures. (I love the colors.)
making and giving
Julen's BFF turns four today. He was adament that he had to make him some gnomes out of willow like the ones we have at the preschool. While he couldn't handle most of the sawing or much of the whittling of the gnome hats, he did give it his best effort. The sanding, painting and rubbing with...
Congratulations! You must be all tingly with accomplishment. Your family has so much to celebrate this weekend.
I did it!
13.1 miles. A huge thank you to Fatty and the girls for supporting me, cheering me on and handing me a banana and taking my jacket at mile 9. Thanks also to Michael for coaching me, listening to my whines and then promptly ignoring them, and making me believe that I really could do this thing....
I love this space just the way it is. Of course we'd all be tickled to see you here more often.
Happy Friday!
I'm want to try to be a better blogger. I used to have no problems blogging. Even when I didn't have anything special to blog about, I blabbered on about something. It kept the blogging muscle toned, so to speak. Like everything, the more you do it the easier it becomes. Use it or lose it. These...
We all should throw back our heads and laugh like that at least once a day.
And I am moving the Mistake Scarf up towards the top of my list.
two off the sticks
I finished two scarves from my long list. With the lovely hand-spun chunky yarn this one stitched up very quickly. Details: Mistake Scarf Pattern from Last Minute Knitted Gifts and also can be found on The Purl bee CO 23 stitches on #13 needles using locally hand-dyed, hand-spun chunky wool ...
I love how intently the fortune teller's ball was being looked at.
BOO!
I felt very brave this year and allowed my seven-year-old to carve his own pumpkin. He did a great job and all fingers are intact. Saturday we met friends in the park for Halloween fun...fortune telling, a haunted house, dancing, games and rats to hold. We made pumpkin bread, roa...
Congratulations to you and your family. Just look at the dark-haired beauty.
sorry to keep you waiting...
She's here, and we're home :-) Cecilia Catherine was born around 12:19 pm on Friday October 28th, weighing 8 lbs 7 oz, 20.25" long. She screamed non-stop the first few hours after she was born, which made me very afraid. Thankfully, once she got used to being here, she calmed down and has ...
Oh my goodness everything looks just lovely. Warm wishes on this special day.
i'm ready
This baby will be here only hours from now, and I think I'm ready. The past few weeks I've been in extreme nesting mode, sewing this and that getting everything together. (please ignore that rug, a new one is on the way) It started when I decided to turn a corner of my bedroom into a nurser...
I am so so sorry to hear this. I was hoping all week for brighter news for your family.
things to be bummed about
I realize, that's a real uplifting title for a Friday late Thursday night post. But, in the spirit of honesty that I like to maintain on my blog, I have some bummer things to share. Since last Friday, Mary's most-special cat Mouse has been missing. If you've been around here for awhile, you'l...
I'm sure the squirrels are hoping for a return next year too. That first picture is just perfect.
and so it goes....
When last years pumpkins ended up like this... ...I pushed them into the dirt under the asters. To my great surprise, in the spring a volunteer pumpkin plant grew there...and grew...and grew. It grew into the grass, past the asters, past the raspberries and almost to the gate. It must ha...
This just makes me happy.
backyard playground
At my preschool, we have a pretty simple play area in the back of the house. We have a small hill made from dirt, a house built out of willow, a sandbox house, a ring of rocks and tree stumps. When my mom lost the birch tree in the front of her house, I was happy to relieve her of some of the ...
I used to be the same way about saving things. I would think it was better to have it and not use it, then use it and not have it anymore. But what joy was I getting from not using it?
some nice things I must mention
photo from The Black Apple I have been waiting to buy these cards from Miss Emily for a bit now and am so pleased to have them in my hands. I love boxed cards, especially the assorted kind with pre-printed sentiments. There was a time years ago that I wouldn't use these lovely cards (or special...
I did notice that we seem to have abundant crop of mushrooms this year. I've always like the ones that look like coral.
mushroom hunters
As I said in my previous post, while on vacation last weekend my friends and I gathered mushrooms. The New Hampshire woods were so wet, fungi were popping up everywhere! Since my first mushroom post, I've been quite drawn to them for their wonderful variety of color and texture. ...
This made me choke on my coffee.
Conversations with a 5 year old :: 9
Huck 2 best buddies from the neighborhood, Jon & Finn, go to a different school. Not a big deal for Huck but I've been curious about who he's gravitating toward in Kindergarten this year. Me: So are Jacob and Austin your new best friends at school? Huck: No. They're my minons. Guess I...
I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
kitty angel
LIttle Hazel has made her fair share of appearances here over the years. She was such a challenge to photograph... usually offering the lens no more than her pure black silhouette. But then there were those hazel eyes. It seems fitting to share with you th...
