Almost started to giggle on the bus today. Here I was, commiting code to my local Git repository, pushing it to my local master instantly synced to Dropbox and than finally up to the Heroku production hosting. All while riding the bus to work ;) Life is good, and the iPhone's mobile hotspot is king! Hate to use the mouse, so I Googled for the keyboard shortcuts for LeanKit’s Kanban tool. No clean hits though. Later on I found them under the “Configure Board Settings” / Preferences tab. BTW, They are disabled by default. Edit: Typo fixed Continue reading

The other week I was asked a second time to hold a session for an IT consultant trainee program. Topic for the day was "the consultant role". Based on my experience as a consultant but also on the experience from my 18 month mission on spreading Betsson's approach on system development in their Philippine office, below are some of the topics covered. You are an ambassador. For yourself, for your company and for the industry It it a role, but who's play? Expectations: Better than others: The companies employees and preferably the one who pays the bill Better on what:... Continue reading

Task estimation made easy? In this movie I demo the basic functionality of my task estimation tool ESTI. The movie is the first in a series, where I will try to show how I think ESTI could be used to get things done (estimated). View it over at PragPros.com blog http://www.pragpros.com/2011/10/esti-story-and-task-handling-demo-movie.html or directly at Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Hd4sHAD8c4M This is actually the first YouTube movie upload for me. Many more to come. What feature is missing in ESTI? Let me know, please! Continue reading

Scenario (Based on a true story) You would like to fasten 4 legs to a bed with wooden frame. The legs are attached to a metal plate that is approx. 2 mm thick. Which method do actually work… even after 2 months of usage of the bed? Method 1: Nails? Quick, yes, but does not work if you actually use the bed. At least if you do not use “grabbers”. Nails will come out eventually. Method 2: Wood screws with a unthreaded shank below the head. Wood screw YES, but since the metal plate is so thin… the unthreaded part... Continue reading

Just love the new possibility to skip the mouse when searching in Google Search. I put together a small video showing how it works in Google Chromefore. Shortcuts used: CTRL-K to access search (Chrome) Enter to search ARROW UP / ARROW DOWN to navigate in search result ENTER to visit search result CTRL-LEFT ARROW to return to search result Works in: Google Chrome, Firefox | Does Not Work In (yet): IE8, IE9 not tested (really tried to get a useful link to IE8, but Microsoft URL’s sucks, jumps to IE9 everywhere) References: - http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2010/09/keyboard-shortcuts-for-google-search.html Continue reading

The last week I’ve been building this new site, ReAnswer.Net. How many times have you not goggled for the answer to a tech/job related problem, only to find the answer hidden deep down a discussion, or in a comment to a related post. ReAnswer.Net is about writing answers, not questions. Many times the questions is not very good, when we know the answer. Let’s act on this. With a bookmarklet you can quickly submit any found answer and clean out the question/answer and description. Please help me to build a great answer focused site, without banners and other distractions. Features... Continue reading
