This is my first December in Blogland, and I've been having fun seeing what you all have been up to, too:-) I'm hoping to get all those previously secret crafts up soon, but now, I'm enjoying the quiet intensity of my boys coloring with their new art sets (hence the couple of minutes to visit here;-) Happy Happy to all of you Soules, and thank you for all of your lovely inspiration, always!! ~Michelle

Oh my goodness, your making is beautiful...and my making is going a tiny bit too far into the wee hours each night;-) This year, no really, THIS year, I'm planning to go to bed at a decent hour on Christmas Eve so I can actually remember Christmas day...the crafting clock is ticking... Happy making to you & yours!! ~Michelle

Oh my goodness, I am all too familiar with this phenomenon!! Last week, I was walking through the dining room at the exact moment that a karate demonstration was taking place, and my knee got in the way of a really good kick! My knee was dislocated, and I was in an immobilizer & on crutches for the last 5 days!! The very good news is that I'm in a little brace now, for the next month, and we have decided that all future karate demonstrations will take place on the porch, in the back yard, or in the boys' bedroom! For this time, at least, none of my monkeys were bleeding, I think that's the worst. Being the only gal in a family of five...never a dull moment;-) I hope your beautiful boys heal quickly and your house is completed as soon as possible. Oh it'll be so worth it in the end, when you're all enjoying the fire all winter:-) Happy Wednesday!! xoxo ~Michelle

What a wonderful adventure, and way for your family to get a true sense (or many senses;-) of farm life. I'm looking forward to following your adventure as you follow your dream. Our path is similar, as we have all of our fingers & toes crossed that 2010 will be the year that we find our dream acreage and community. These years on our mini-homestead have whet our appetites for "The Good Life!" Wishing you a holiday season of peace & joy! ~Michelle (and the boys & the chickens;-)

Chickens in the kitchen are not popular with this mama either, but what really freaks me out is finding one in the "way back" of the van when I get in to start it...she knows she can always find crumbs under Adam's seat...hmmmmm

Oh Nicole, it's lovely to be back!! I took a little blog break last month, and am spending a couple of evenings drinking in all that I have missed from my favorite pages. As always your photos and thoughts have brightened my day! We too have been enjoying the milkweed pods, this year the big boys have created a very intricate game that involves emptying them and filling them with rosehips, and our littlest just loves blowing the seeds into the breeze. SO wonderful catching up with you. Thank you for the beautiful inspiration!! ~Michelle

Hi Sara, I'm just catching up on my favorite blogs after my own technical difficulties...sorry to read you had a similar experience. I'm new to computers, and they can be so frustrating sometimes, but the inspiration from folks like you and all the other mamas I've met out there makes it worth it! As I said to my husband though, I can't think of a better time of year for the internet to go down :-) Your photos from the market are just beautiful, and that "Time" article is a good read. Wouldn't it be great if it was required reading by those who make the laws about the food we eat? Have a wonderful long weekend!! ~Michelle

Hi Kyndale, I've learned, as the mother of three beautiful boys, that there's a reason people exclaim, "Oh, Boy!" and "Oh, Brother!" I really didn't think too too much about the gender stereotypes until this past year. Now that my oldest is about to turn 7 (YIKES!) and he's testing the boundaries so much more, and wanting to be "cool" it's quite different. Fortunately, he is very much still his own person...even on the playground... but I can see (and hear!) moments of bottled up boyness pouring out of him when he's around a group of other "big kids" and I'm sad/proud/confused/exasperated all at the same time. Fortunately at the end of the day he (and Mr. five year old who is growing even faster!) still wants to cuddle and listen to me sing, and help me sew and bake with me :-)

Hi Nicole! I'm finally back on-line and came by to take a quick peek at what you've been up to...looking forward to more in-depth reading tonight when the house is quiet :-) Okay, I've always thought we may be neighbors and now I'm really saying hmmmmm..... We have an antique book barn near us that looks very, very much like this...dollhouse and everything! Of course, I've never seen it photographed so beautifully :-) Anyway, ours is yellow and also has donkeys out back, sells antique linens and has a "Fairy Glen"...one of my favorite ways to spend a rainy day!! Thanks for sharing your time travels with us! ~Michelle

Congratulations on your corn!!! After three years of trying, and almost getting there, it looks like we have real corn this year! We're still about a week away from harvesting (I'm guessing), but my fingers are crossed that this is the year! So happy for your success:-) ~Michelle
