I love this post.
proud mama duck
Last week marked a milestone for our ducks. We let them in on the big secret we've been keeping from them. I have to confess I was a little bit nervous. I was worried that if we let them know what they've been missing, they might never come home again. They might find that this new discovery w...
very cool can't wait to see the pictures!
NORAH GAUGHAN IS COMING TO MY HOUSE ON WEDNESDAY!
Oh my goodness, I finally said it "out loud"! Can I say it again? NORAH GAUGHAN IS COMING TO MY HOUSE ON WEDNESDAY! I have been holding that in for almost a year now. That is a hard secret to keep here in the knit blog world but I did it! Why, you ask? Why is Norah Gaughan coming to our house on...
Pretty! Would look yummy as edging on a planned pair pants.
sponsor giveaway :: wonderfluff fabric
I'm super excited to have Liz Scott, the creative mind behind the fabric shop, WonderFluff, on as a sponsor. I have a few of Liz's fabrics, and they're awesome. I especially love my sample of organic cotton interlock knit. Liz draws her designs by hand, colors them digitally, then has them pr...
There is nothing better than afternoon cuddling. Love the striped PJs
30 Days of Happiness: Good Morning!!
A little snuggle, after dropping of The Girl at school, and before papa goes to work, is always a must. * MUAH! Love this little boy and his silly 4 year old self. * Gave him the remote to get him in front of the camera. Oh dear, what am I in for? *smirk*. He was so cute clicking...
The blog looks wonderful. I have to agree with you about autumn always being so welcoming, but then I'm the woman who was invigorated by the subzero weeks last winter. But there is something about the pace of summer that can't be beat. Enjoy every last morsel of it!
Summer continues....
I'm still in summer mode. Even though summer is probably my least favorite season (I'll just duck as you all throw virtual tomatoes at me) -- because, I think, as a friend recently said, I'm more at peace with contraction than with expansion -- I'm not quite ready for it to be over this year. I ...

lines of latitude : a musical giveaway today
Today's post perfectly comes together with music and lyrics from the self titled first album by lines of latitude (Rebekah's boyfriend) and photographs of Nova Scotia by Rebekah. His lyrics are so hauntingly beautiful and I love that he enunciates his prose so clearly while his fingers dance ove...
Simple days are the best.
30 days of happiness and work-in-progress Wednesday
Yesterday, I spent the entire day cleaning and organizing the entire house. It feels so good in here. I've commited myself to start new habits that will help keep it that way (putting things back where they belong, washing dishes right after a meal is over, etc.). I picked the first radish fro...
your photos catch the day so well, I wish I could sit beneath that tree too!

My summer has been spent living in the natural thrall of the river, the lakes, the mountains and in the lush world of the gardens...Walking barefoot along the fields will quickly transition to heavier and warmer forms of footwear! I have noticed a natural shift in my children and I in t...
We actually started my son with my set of Caran d'Ache water soluble crayons from when I was seven. Their colors are so vibrant and you can add brush and water to mix up the out come and activity. Perhaps it is the naturalist in me but until my son(3)is really drawing things and wants a more controllable line we are sticking to crayons, pastels and watercolors.
That being said there is nothing I like better than a new set of markers and a fresh tablet of paper.
beyond crayola
I remember Crayola markers. I remember them well - I think I must have sighed in exasperation many-a-time while using them. "That green? Again?" Even for an eight year-old, the colors were meh. But I used them - I used them a lot. Didn't we all? Since I am no longer a child (by most traditiona...
We're excited to watch you guys "expand" from afar!
beginnings of a brooder
beginnings of a brooder, originally uploaded by SpiderWomanKnits. Abi here! The boys are busy building so it's my turn to post. Work has begun on the brooder we are making for the 60 chicks set to arrive sometime this week! We started by removing plywood from an unfinished workroom behind our ...
Funny after the last three years I have become a big believer in the small steps. At least for us large leaps tend to land us in puddles, or worse canyons. Good luck with everything and I can't wait to see those chicks in November.
The Plan
Late last night at 2am, my wife and I had a heart-to-heart talk about the course of our life. With our three children in deep sleep we tried to make sense of things with the door closed in our small guest-room. My heart was beating irregularly. The history debate covered all our victories an...
Wow you've been busy. I remember when my son was born I was lucky if I got one article every other week written.
what we've been up to
Reading lots of books. Finn's favorites, which elicit squeals of joy and abundant limb flailing: Mama's Milk/Mama Me Alimenta Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes On the Day You Were Born Grasping his ring toy while making laughably loud grunting noises. His wooden grasping toy is from P...
*smile* I almost asked how you were standing on a lampshade.
Day 19: 30 Days to Blogville or Bust
Under Foot: Around our House So many textures. So much diversity in feeling. So much support for the goings on of a family of five. So many surfaces to clean.
This summer has taken us from the Green Mountains of Vermont to a new house in the Blackforest of Colorado where we live between the prairie and the mountains and are exploring them both.
savoring summer
On Monday.... we followed summer to the shore. Where has the season led you lately?
It seems to me that blogs should always be there for the author's pleasure if you are ready to be in this space then it isn't what you need to be doing in this spot. Take care of yourself and family.
this month's thoughts
I'm checking in here to let everyone know that I'm having a rough few weeks right now. I haven't really mentioned this here before, but I have been single-parenting nearly full-time since April. My husband is completing a stack of requirements for his doctorate. He has a hard and fast deadline o...
great give away, congratulations on the book as well.
HANDMADE HOME :: beach blanket to-go
I'll be sharing over the rest of our "HANDMADE HOME Celebration" days together, a few of my favorite projects from the book. I hope when you start sewing from HANDMADE HOME, you'll take a moment to photograph and share what you've made in the HANDMADE HOME Flickr group. I would LOVE to see what...
