My daughter would love this, and her birthday is next week. Maybe it's fate? Thanks for the opportunity to win!
. . . tell me a story: imaginary worlds + a giveaway!
It's no secret that we are big fans of Keri Smith around here. Shortly after we started the Imagine Childhood shop and blog we received a hand wrapped package with a million tiny stamps on it and a beautiful book inside. It was love at first sight and we've been smitten ever since. Filled wi...
What a sweet moment! Best friends. :)

Happy Martinmas, Grace!
On this Martinmas
On this Martinmas, I'm wishing you blessings and light, and that a spark of the spirit of generosity, and fortitude as we face these cold months ahead, will be kindled in all of your hearts. xo, Grace
That really is a very cute vest. Perfect for these autumn days!
Last Christmas, This Autumn
Our normal "uniform" for James on holidays has been a sweater vest and corduroy pants. Last Christmas, we were having a hard time finding him a sweater vest that coordinated with the girls' Christmas outfits (unfortunately, all those photos were lost in the computer crash we had this year), so I...
PS. Love the new woodstove!
it could happen
In July, I shared with you my grand ambition of finishing a knit sweater for everyone it my family by Solstice. Of this year. It was a lofty goal, I will confess. But you know, I do knit an awful lot. And crazier things have happened in my crafty world. So this basket has joined me everywhere ...
I love the shot of Harper cozying up to the sweater. :) You can do it, Amanda!!

It's beautiful, and I love the story. I remember you sharing bits and pieces as it was coming together, and I hoped you share the finished product. How lovely it turned out! My husband purchased a beautiful black onyx rosary when we were in Rome many years ago which hung from our bureau for a long time until one of the kids slammed it in a drawer. I should try to make another similar one for him. Thanks for the inspiration!
For prayer
Today I have something to share that I made, but it's not in the same vein as what I usually do. Years ago, my parents bought me a fairly inexpensive rosary with opaque pink glass beads. Somehow I lost that rosary about two years ago, and last spring, I finally accepted that I would probably nev...
We made similar lanterns this year too. My kids had a great time playing with all the glue and tissue paper. They've been sitting in our library waiting for Thursday!
.: Waldorf Lantern Walk :.
.: These are the lanterns that were created many years ago and are used each year! :. As a Waldorf-inspired family we look forward to celebrating a lantern walk in honor of the story of Saint Martin who let his inner light shine one cold November day... Martinmas Day is a time to celebrate our...
All of my kids love my swift as well. I don't always love the knots my yarn occasionally ends up in when they man the ball winder, but I'm glad it entertains them. :)
still entertained
I'm remembering fondly this post and those seemingly long-ago baby days. (In case you don't know what a swift is, I think Steve describes it best of all.) (Recently 'swifted,' from left to right: Sundara Sport Merino in Wood Studies, Pigeonroof Studios handspun sport, Manos del Uruguay m...
Sorry about the mastitis. I never had it but I've heard it's a beast. Good luck finishing your knitting. The green is lovely!
In progress
As you all probably remember, we have a tradition for Martinmas of gifting our children with a new warm item of clothing. I like them to be handknit, of course, and I set the bar pretty high for myself last year by knitting three sweaters. This year I also decided to knit sweaters, as they eac...
Awww...I love that! What a sweet shot of such a nurturing action. :)

My youngest will only wear orange hats. I like it because I can always find him quickly when we're in a public place. :)

My moment is so similar! My oldest and youngest were walking together and the oldest was trying to convince the youngest to go with the middle two so he could hide and the youngest said, "but I want to be with YOU, you're my best bud" http://www.anartfamily.com/2010/11/this-moment-youre-my-best-bud.html
Warms a mama's heart!

Those are so great, Grace! One day they will really appreciate the time you put into making their Halloween costumes every year. :)
Wild cats
So, I realized this week that I have made 16 Halloween costumes in the 8 1/2 years I've been a mother. I can rattle them off in chronological order for anyone who's interested. (I'm fairly impressed with this feat.) True to form, Elisabeth decided what she was going to be (a cheetah -- don...
It's getting cold here too! The first truly cold weather this fall (for NC anyway). I'm knitting like a fiend, mostly for Christmas though. :) I share your sentiment wholeheartedly!
brrrr...
note: I added a little postscript to yesterday's post for those of you wondering where things came from. . . . . . I have a confession to make that slightly embarrasses the life-long, not-as-tough-as-she-thinks-she-is Mainer in me. I'm cold! The kids are still walking around just fine in ...
What a beautiful little play spot! I'll bet they really love it there. :)
at the top of the stairs
There wasn't a love-at-first-sight for me with this house, but more like a really slow settling-in of a good feeling as we began to explore it, if that makes any sense at all. Neither Steve or I were incredibly optimistic about the house when we first decided to look closer, but we didn't have...
Those are great! What a wonderful tradition. My parents weren't much on Halloween at all and I never, not once, carved a pumpkin growing up. I was never too interested after I had kids either, probably because I didn't have any sentimental memories attached to it. But once we started doing it, I was amazed at how special a bond it creates. My older 3 pretty much carve on their own now and I'm flabbergasted at what a wonderful job they do with some pretty complex designs. :)
Pumpkins!
{Elisabeth's design and work} {Also by Elisabeth} It should come as no surprise, really, that I would be sentimental about something little like carving pumpkins. And I am. Pumpkin carving was a favorite ritual of my family's growing up. My parents did a beautiful job of celebrating ho...

Happy birthday to sweet little Lu!
THIS IS NOW
last night we had little lu's private birthday celebration. just the six of us and some chocolate cake. i still cannot believe she is one. it doesn't seem right. i feel as though that year was one big sleep deprived blur and i'd like to go back and try to remember more of it. but, seeing as i am...

Haha! Love that chalkboard wall. Ezra?
My moment this week came when my daughter decided she wanted to make a Halloween mobile and proceeded to cut out a pumpkin, ghost, vampire, cyclops, spider and bat by hand and all were easily identifiable! http://www.anartfamily.com/2010/10/this-moment-her-halloween-mobile.html

Sometimes I don't know where I'm going until I arrive. At which point I look back and where I was headed is so impressively clear I wonder how I hadn't noticed it earlier. Not so much a passive stumble through life as a permissive glide across time. I allow the winds to blow me about as I ...
Those baby pigs are the cutest things! Wow, your girls are getting so big. Your oldest is like mine...long and lanky. :) And adorable, of course.
Pumpkin time
That time of the year again. I can't believe my oldest is now nearly up to the 5 ft marker at the local pumpkin patch when it seems like last year that she was on a donkey ride hangin onto me with one hand the whole time. Luckily I still have a juicy one year old niece that is just taking her ...
