Tipper,
I have made blackberry jam the old fashioned way and many other types of jam as well. It's been a lot of years though. Since I am diabetic and hubby doesn't eat jam, I don't make it anymore. My daughter makes it for her family, but the new, modern way.
Enjoyed your post and well remember jam in flour sacks.

Making Blackberry Jelly - The Old Time Way
Blackberry-is by far my favorite kind of jelly. I remember eating peanut butter and blackberry jelly sandwiches as an after school snack when I was a kid. Sometimes I'd swear someone else ate the other half of my sandwich since it was so good it disappeared way too fast. I make Blackberry Jel...
Tipper,
Tom T. Hall sure has written a lot of beautiful ballads. Many of them are my favorites. I didn't realize he had written for other artists as well, or if I did I had forgotten.
Michelle loved the song, Sneaky Snake when she was young. He had a lot of great hits.
Thanks for the interesting post.

Mary
Old Dogs, Children, and Watermelon Wine
My earliest memory of Tom T. Hall-is his classic song The Year That Clayton Delaney Died. My older brother, Steve, had a triple record set of country hits-which he forbid me and Paul to touch. But as soon as he left for work we'd grab the tunes and listen to the country greats of the day. To...
Tipper,
The chipmunk is probably the one pulling up your corn. I have never heard of crows digging holes, but I suppose anything is possible. Sorry that your corn test didn't work out, but looking forward to hearing how the others did.
Take care and enjoy the coming week.

Blind Pig & The Acorn's Corn Test Runs Into Trouble
As I've walked through my yard over the past few days I've seen great beauty-like White Lilies that smell soooo good, Zinnia Buds Zinnia Blooms Fire Orange Marigolds Alums ...
Tipper,
I certainly enjoyed reading the article you wrote. It's interesting all of the things that grow naturally that can be used for medicinal purposes.
As for the vocabulary test, I'm familiar with all of them and yes, I've been et up by mosquitoes and black flies. lol
Enjoyed my visit, as always. Hope you and your family had a great 4th of July.

Appalachian Vocabulary Test 9
Time for this month's Appalachian Vocabulary Test Eat up Evening Et Far Fer Eat up-bite badly, consume. "I swear the chiggers have eat me up this summer." Evening-time between noon and night. "Late this evening we'll go fishing if you want too." Et-eat, ate. "Come on in and sit down, ...
Tipper,
Congratulations to David. I'm sure he will enjoy the book.
Thanks for the linky love. I often visit some of the names on the list.
Wishing you a great 4th of July.

Spreading The Linky Love For June
Time to Spread the Love-I'd like to thank each one of you for being part of the Blind Pig. During the month of June you went along with me as I suckered tomatoes, bemoaned cuts in education funding, tried to figure out why I feel safer in the mountains, sat under the weeping willow tree and b...
Tipper,
It sure looks like you've got a bumper crop of squash this year. My favorite is butternut squash.
Dad used to grow acorn squash and a couple of other varieties. It's been so long that I've forgotten, but do know he grew a couple of varieties.
Enjoyed your post, as always and look forward to hearing about how the squash blossoms cook up.
Blessings,
Mary
Yellow Squash
Yellow Squash has been a favorite veggie of mine since I was a child. This year's plants have just started producing what looks to be a bumper crop. As you can see from the photo above-our plants are huge this summer. I think it must be the chicken litter-as well as the extra rain we've be...
Tipper,
I am looking forward to the results of your test. Grandpa always planted by the signs.
My favorite summer vegetable is corn on the cob with butter. Mmm! Can hardly wait until August when it ripens here. I've tasted a sweet, white variety. We no longer can get Seneca Chief here, which is what Grandma always planted. It was yellow, but sweet and delicious.
Enjoy your garden truck. We've had leaf lettuce and green onions from our garden and the tomatoes have already started to form.
Blessings,
Mary
Blind Pig & The Acorn's Corn Test
Need an easy to use planting by the signs calendar for 2011?-Check out the Blind Pig & the Acorn's Planting By the Moon Signs 2011 Calendar by clicking here. A few weeks ago, I mentioned having a test to see whether or not planting by the signs did indeed make a difference in the way vegetabl...
Tipper,
I have never been bitten by a chigger and I think I will pass on that experience. lol We have no-see um's in northern Ontario. They are a type of black fly, but not chiggers.
Anyone who hikes naked deserves to be eaten alive. lol

Summer Solstice
Although most of Appalachia has been experiencing record high temperatures during the past week-today is the Summer Solstice-the official beginning of Summer. Our Summer Solstice occurs when the Northern Hemisphere is most inclined or tilted towards the sun. The longest day of the year occur...
Tipper,
I'm definitely a mountain person. I feel so close to God in the mountains. They steal my breath away.
I have never been on the prairies but have seen them from a plane and I don't think I would like living out in the open. Here, we have rolling farmland and woods, so it is not open or close, but you can hide over the next hill. lol
Love your memories, my friend and always enjoy my visits.
Blessings,
Mary
The Blue Ridge Mountains
Summer is the best time to see the 'blue' of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Blue Ridge Mountains stretch from North Georgia all the way to Pennsylvania where they eventually peter out (become smaller and smaller until they simply disappear). The Blue Ridge Mountains were named by early America...
Tipper,
When the provincial government sets their budget for the year here in Ontario, it is set. We won't see any cut in education costs until the next budget. I do expect that there will be some then. Who will suffer? Special needs children will be hit the hardest, I expect.
Glad to catch up on some of your news. Sorry I haven't been to visit for a while.
Have a great week, my friend and have fun with the girls over the summer. Love the stomping.
Blessings,
Mary
