Claire’s braces came off today! Claire and Dave “only” ($$$) needed braces one time. Mark (second time we were married), Matt, and Katie each had braces twice (thank goodness 😉), but it was expensive. Meanwhile, I have the straightest teeth in the family with no intervention. I wish the kids had followed after me in the “no intervention needed” camp, but I’m happy we all have solid chompers now. #wearyourretainers (Shout out to Georgina for the generous gift of winter wear to the Hannahs years ago. There is a minimally displaced fracture of my humerus (greater tuberosity) where the rotator cuff attaches that will heal with time. I need to keep it still. Passive range of motion with PT for a month, then active. Orthopedist said this type of injury can drag on for while, but he expects a full recovery. I’m ready! Continue reading

We were on our way to the NC State football game tonight when I asked Mark to hold my hand as we went down a hill covered with wet leaves. I slipped near the bottom and fell anyway which caused a hyper-abduction injury (I went down while he was still holding my hand/arm straight.) There was a pop and pain. Medics in a nearby tent gave me ice and ibuprofen. ER doc diagnosed a partial rotator cuff tear and possible nondisplaced fracture of the humerus greater tuberosity (the bone the rotator attaches to). I have a sling and orthopedic followup.... I’ve been working hard for 6 months (started grad school diagnosed with walking pneumonia so the first week was a scratch - SO sick). Most of the work I’ve submitted is good, but honestly there were a couple stinkers where I either misunderstood the directions or it was beyond my skill set. I’m getting worried the final exam and difficult final projects will fall into either of those categories. Dianne and Alberta were concerned that Mom hasn’t received the anointing of the sick sacrament recently so I phoned the priest yesterday and he came today. I haven’t seen Mom so alert in months. Continue reading
