Daisy Days Blog Tour
Hello! I'm so glad you stopped by to see the lovely Daisy Days fabric and what I decided to do with this adorable fabric. First off, let me say how delightful I think Keera Jobs is! I met Keera this March in Australia when I was down there for Cotton Carnivale. It is always fun to meet designers that are kind and warm, and Keera is definitely both of those. I believe that comes through in her designs which are so sweet and playful. When I got my fabric for the tour, I thought hard about what I wanted to... Continue reading

Bittersweet Blog Hop
It's always fun to play with friends and with their fabrics and to be included in their blog hops, but it is a particular pleasure to be a part of Sue Daley's Bittersweet fabric blog hop! There are so many great fabrics in this collection, and I love the way that Sue plays with them in little bits and pieces. I wanted to replicate something similar in my project. Here is my Bollywood Bag pattern, made in Bittersweet, and embellished with yo-yo's. I will never tire of yo-yo's.... I'm a lucky lady to have twins, and that means that lots... Continue reading

Around the World Blog Tour
I am so excited to be participating in the Around the World Blog Tour, started by Jen Kingwell. I was invited by Amber of Gigi's Thimble, who was asked by Amy Smart (Diary of a Quilter). What an honor to be included with such lovely women. I admire all three of them so very much. I met Amber when we were both asked to teach at a local retreat. I instantly her (which isn't hard because she is adorable). And I love her new book, Vintage Vibe. It is filled with the most wonderful projects. It is people like Amber... Continue reading

The Little Spark Blog Tour!!
I am super excited today to be playing along in Carrie Bloomston's blog tour! She has a new, lovely book out called The Little Spark - 30 Ways to Ignite Your Creativity. I have not finished it yet, but have been reading it AND I was fortunate enough to have Carrie speak at my last Find Your Lula retreat. She shared little bits of her book and really helped our guests find their spark. When I met Carrie, it was like there was a little spark. It was as if I had met a soul sister, championing the same work... Continue reading

Petite Maison + Cottage Garden = LOVE
Are you ready for cute overload? I am dying! Amber, my good friend and pattern writer for The Quilted Fish, made my Petite Maison pattern out of my new fabric, Cottage Garden. I just love the way it turned out. She paid so much attention to every detail, even crocheting little items like flowers. And she made tiny little stockings to hang on the mantle (squeel!!!). She made a Chirstmas tree, tree skirt and gifts!! Every detail on this little house is to die for. If you want to make one for yourself, the Petite Maison Pattern is on sale... Continue reading

La Vie Boheme
Imagine yourself in a gypsy wagon.... Hand held out for madame Zujenia Keet to tell your fortune... As you sit on her colorful poufs, smoke wafting around you, she tells you your fortune. You will be very happy, she says. You will have many many yards of fabric, she says. This is what I do when I design a line of fabric. I immerse myself in whatever world I am currently inspired by. My newest line of fabric, now preselling and in stores in May, was inspired by Romanian Gypsys. My parents are living in Romania right now and I... Continue reading

I have designed 11 fabric lines for Riley Blake Designs!!! You can see all of my lines here. I love creating and designing and helping other people to do the same. Pinner's Conference Giveaway!
Hello! The Pinner's Conference is just a few days away and I am hurrying to get my kits ready. I am so excited to teach this bracelet... That is hand stitching on a leather cuff! Talk about fun and unique. I am going to make one for all of my friends for Christmas. Okay, maybe one or two of them. Let's be honest. To add to the fun of the conference I have teamed up with Carina Gardner (Carina Gardner Designs and MiniLou) and Emily Taylor (Emily Taylor Designs and Pattern Jam) to do an amazing giveaway! Isn't that Pinteresting?
Do you love Pinterest as much as me? I have about a bajillion pins and I haven't made hardly anything from them! Are you the same way? If you live in Utah (or in a nearby state) you have probably heard about the Pinners Conference. This is the most awesome conference because you can come and MAKE and DO some of the things (dare I say coolest things??) on Pinterest. And it is all ready for you. No prep, no going to 10 stores to find what you need, no Pinterest fails. Just great teachers, great projects and lots and... Continue reading

Pillow Collective
Hello, and welcome! I am so excited to be a part of the Pillow Collective created by Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side! Seriously, who doesn't love pillows? I have about a gajillion on my couch. And I am not exaggerating at all. I also love things that have meaning, whether it is hidden or blatant. That's why I made this pillow: The meaing for me in this pillow is that it is the symbol of my cause which is helping people find and articulate their creativity. I love the image of a heart with wings. To me it says... Continue reading

YOU SCURVY DOG! DON'T YOU KNOW IT'S BABY TIME?!
Today is a very momentous day here at The Quilted Fish. My assistant Kristen is finally having her baby! Add to that the excitement of it being International Talk Like A Pirate Day and is it any wonder this day is special? Some may ask what these two things have in common or why I deem it exciting. To that I answer, what could be more appropriate for our newest little fishie than to be born on a day when all and sundry are speaking of the bounteous and beauteous ocean, their second home? When you’re speaking like a pirate,... Continue reading

A Royal Conundrum
The whole world seems to be buzzing about “The Royal Baby” since the official palace announcement on December 3, 2012. Now that the baby, Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, is here, people seem to be even more frenzied and obsessed than before! Is this frenzy due to his romantic title of “Prince,” or to the royal family having a larger-than-usual gene pool? With pictures and posts about this momentous occasion bombarding us seemingly every minute of every day, how can we not stew about it? The question that’s been going around here at The Quilted Fish is... What gift... Continue reading

A {BIG} Fishy Problem
Nearly two weeks ago I came across an incredible story. The title of the news article was unbelievable enough to get my attention. The title of the article was Divers Nearly Swallowed by Humpback Whales off Central California Coast. Not something you read everyday is it? The article is well worth the read but the live video is even better! So the story goes that a group of people are out on the sea for a bit of whale watching. Two people from the group were in the water near the boat and seem to be trying to do some... Continue reading

Dreaming
“Dreams, if they're any good, are always a little bit crazy. ” -Ray Charles I am a big proponent of dreaming. Particularly when it comes to creative dreams – either mine or someone else’s. Sometimes you really have to fight for your dream…with yourself, your partner, your parents, your bank….the list goes on. But no one else will fight for your dream unless you do! That is why I am pretty excited that I am part of the way to making one of my creative dreams come true! Yesterday we closed on the cottage (hence the key!). Here is a... Continue reading

I am so excited for her and I really really hope she will share pictures of her final project with us! Yesterday I was so fortunate to be able to start this… Although I am not sure if I will become a certified coach, I am excited to be able to use the skills I am learning at UCU to be able to help other people with their creative dreams and businesses. I currently have my own business/life coach and I LOVE... Continue reading

Hello, fishies! Did you all enter to win the Craftsy class? How many of you couldn't wait and you just had to buy it? I am one of those people. I like instant gratification. Which is funny, because I haven't made any progress on my bag. I really want to finish it...there just isn't time right now! Anyway, the contest is over now, and we will be drawing a winner for the class on Monday of next week. We will announce the winner on Tuesday. Thanks for playing!! We still have lots of great things going on! Remember to submit... Continue reading

Meet Douglas, one of our Find Your Lula teachers!
Meet Douglas I am pretty excited, there are only a couple of months until our Find Your Lula retreat! There are lots of cool things that will be going on at this retreat, but one of the coolest is that we will be spending a lot of time in Adobe Illustrator. This is the program that I use to design fabric, paper and home décor items. It has some amazing capabilities…considering you know how to use them! Douglas is a pro. He has a degree in graphic art! Here is some of his cool typography: And he does a lot... Continue reading
