It has been busy around here. And cold, very, very cold. I do have to admit the clear blue skies and snow on the ground is quite beautiful. Especially the clouds. Around here, we have been busy baking (shortbread, banana bread, cheddar breadsticks) wrapping presents, and enjoying the down time since these next few weeks are quite busier. To be honest, they are a lot busier than I like. I have more gifts to wrap today and I am hoping to finish off a hat I am knitting for Kennedy. I will share details on that Wednesday, along with the... Continue reading

Post Thanksgiving, Pre Hanukkah
I am still eating leftovers. Lunch today is a simple turkey sandwich with mayo and brussels sprouts. K is enjoying corn and roasted squash. She may have eaten a bite or 2 of turkey when I was not looking. This morning Kennedy and I got her gifts ready for giving. While all the gifts we are giving are done, some do require assembly and then there is wrapping all of them. We also have some gifts being sent out of state and Hanukkah is early this year so I want to have those gifts ready for shipping by the end... Continue reading

Thanks and Remembrance
My mother and I on my wedding day in 2005 Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday filled with love, happiness and peace. We had a great Thanksgiving here and spent it with family and friends. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday though it is bittersweet for me now. 2 years ago, a few days past Thanksgiving, my mother lost her battle with cancer. Today is her anniversary and I am honoring her the best way I can, by giving thanks for the wonderful things that fill my life...and being grateful for the time I did share with her.... WIP Wednesday
I have been whipping through projects lately, I am sure the fact that I am only knitting on one project at a time helps. I finished 2 more gifts and sadly, cannot share them, yet. As soon as all my gifts are gifted to their owners, I will share photos of all of them. There is one gift photo I can share though... This is a little doll sweater I knit for Kennedy's new doll. I used Waldorfmama's pattern and while it was simple and lovely, I am in the process of changing things around to make it seamless. I... Continue reading

The Family Blanket
Yesterday I was chatting via Ravelry with French Press Knits and the topic of knitting husbands came up. I mentioned that the only knitting my husband has engaged in was a a square for the family blanket. It is a tradition in our family to knit a family blanket when there is going to be a new arrival, however this is only done for the first baby in the family. Yarn is sent out to the respective family members and everyone knits a square and then returns it back to the organizer (usually the grandmother) who then arranges it and... Continue reading

WIP Wednesday
I do have 2 WIP's but they are both gifts so I am not sharing any details until they have been gifted. My buttons from Moving Mud arrived yesterday and I promptly sewed them on my Snapdragon Mitts. I am so pleased how they look. Here they are with the matching hat This is Kennedy's Hanukkah hat and mitts. I used EZ's ganomy pattern and the set was knit in less than a weekend. I plan to knit myself the mitered mitts as well. Continue reading

Last Minute Crafting: Welcoming a New Friend
Tomorrow brings the baby shower I have spent the week preparing for. I love to do things by hand and when friends and I decided to make the food, I jumped at the chance to do some creative cooking. I am contributing the standard cheese and crackers and I am making various breads and dips/spreads to accompany them. I settled on 3 breads (no photos of them, they are not baked yet but maybe tomorrow) a foccocia, an olive rosemary and Soulemama's WHO Bread. Each bread has toppings meant to match it. For the foccocia, I have some bruchetta, a... Continue reading

WIP Wednesday, One Day Late
As I mentioned earlier in the week, things have been busy around here preparing for upcoming events. I have a lot to share about the baby shower preparations but I will do that tomorrow. I do have some completed projects and WIPs to share and I need to ask you to forgive the horrible photos. I am not a great photographer as it is and I think these are worse than usual. The first project is my completed Snapdragon Tam. I adore it. I finished it about 15 minutes before K and I headed to our monthly La Leche meeting... Continue reading

Busy Week
This week is pretty busy which is nice after a low key weekend. We spent much of the weekend outside and I channeled Martha (Stewart) by cleaning the (inside and) outside of all our downstairs windows. I did the rest of the windows upstairs yesterday. For a few hours of effort there was a huge impact and I am committing to doing this twice a year. I also spent some time baking various foccocia's this weekend. I was trying to perfect my recipe before a baby shower on Saturday and I think I succeeded. I am baking 3 breads for... Continue reading

Routines
Ever since getting home from NYC, K and I have been slightly under the weather. This was her first major illness, ever, and it was only a cold. I also got her cold but got over it pretty quickly. I took some serious vitamin doses and I think it helped. Now that everyone is on the mend, I am trying to clean up our neglected house. I am not great with housework. I try to run the vacuum once a week, I wipe down the kitchen daily and keep up with the bathroom. I do my best to ignore the... Continue reading

WIP Wednesday
I finally have some FO's to show off! Last night I finished the thumb so my Snapdragon Flip Tops by Ysolda are complete. I am just missing the buttons but I am all set to order them. While I love how they turned out, I found the pattern to be a little confusing at times but the second mitt did go much faster than the first. Aren't they lovely? I knit them using some stash Malabrigo (I had 2 skeins) and I am using the second skein to knit the matching Snapdragon Tam. The Malabrigo was perfect for this project,... Continue reading

Back to Reality
Vacation is over, Jacob is back to work. We had a lovely time in New York with our cousins. We explored the a small 6 block radius of the Upper West Side, went to some museums, ate yummy food and made some fun juice related discoveries. Kennedy was a champ with the travel as well. I got to check out Knitty City and I bought 2 skeins of Koigu KPPPM, though I have no clue what to do with them. The rest of the week was low-key. We did some routine things, doctor, dentist and just hung out. We spent... Continue reading

So Much Sock Yarn
My secret project is complete! It has not been given to its' owner yet so here is just a quick teaser photo. Doesn't it look amazing? I knit that project with sock weight yarn which I am starting to love, for everything but socks. I pulled out a ball of sock yarn from Three Irish Girls to cast on the Sock Yarn Sweater by Hannah Fettig for Kennedy as one of her Hanukkah gifts. I really want to cast it on now but I am waiting for the needles to arrive. I needed size 4 16'circulars which I do not... Continue reading
