I believe that the new Sangean CL-100 has DSP. It seems to enhance the reception and clarity of the signals that one does strongly receive.
I have bought five CCR2 radios since June of last year. I haven't not had any problems with them. I have given three to friends who do not have cable/satellite/antenna access. They have been very pleased with them, so far. They are expensive and are not vintage, but if you want something you can buy new, then it just might be the ticket.
I have three in black. One in the silver. I bought the silver one from Universal Radio. They were out of the black color. I guess it is more popular than the silver.
I just bought my fourth CCR2 this month(April). All four are working without any problems. The only problem that I could find is having my phone too close to one of the radios. As soon as I moved the radio away far enough, the reception was OK. I'll keep my fingers crossed on any other problems that might appear in the near future.
My maternal grandmother had one similar to this one. The family had it for a few years until it was thrown out. The built-in battery had been fried before we had ever got possesion of this similar model. Would anyone know what year (and specific model) this was from??
Is it worth getting the Grundig 750 even well below regular price? It seems that internet radio will take over the mainstream market in the next several years. Personally, I am sticking with my CCR-2 radios in the meantime.
I now have three CCR-2 radios. The sound is good, but with the recent improvement of a regional FM classical station (44 watts orig. now, 3000 watts!!!)the sound really rocks!!! No complaints here. So, unless you are really into vintage radios, I don't think you will regret purchasing one. (or three!)
C.Crane is heading in the right direction with their CCR 2 radio. Is Sangean going to have an improved version of their ATS-909 shortwave radio? And how much are they going to cost? The way the US dollar is heading, it will be more expensive than usual. I guess unless one wants to visit the past with vintage radios, this is the future of radios at this time.
Also, how did Richard Kimble (The Fugitive) or David Banner (The Incredible Hulk) make any real money while on the run?? You really don't see shows like these anymore on TV! By the way, is there any truth in the rumor of a sequel to The Big Lebowski???
Has anyone been hearing the Dude's voice on any commercials lately?? I thought that was below the Dude's standards. Then again it was never explained on how the Dude made any money. THIS WILL NOT STAND, MAN!!!!
I just bought another CCR2 from Universal Radio. I used the layaway plan that splits the payments into thirds over 60 days. Very useful if one does not want to use credit cards with the high interest charges.
I agree that classical music (via NPR) does sound good on the CCR2. The larger speaker does make a difference with stereo sound. I guess I am through with radios that have small, tinny speakers. If you are having a problem paying for the CCR2, one can always use the layaway program at Universal Radio, Inc. Call them at 1-800-431-3939 to learn more.
I have been listening to the CCR2 in a rural town at the eastern end of the Columbia Gorge, in WA state. I can receive KINK-FM from Portland. I also receive KOMO-AM from Seattle. Not bad for a sub-par radio. I have given up on looking for a radio that is "perfect" for the average consumer. I guess I'll just take on what I can afford. And what I can actually use.
