I live in Kentucky (Blue Grass State) where the grass is green and the horses are fast.
I'm a wife of one, mother of two daughters and grandmother of a handsome 12 y/o boy and beautiful 9 y/o girl.
Interests: I seem to have more hobbies than time allows: sewing,(home dec, purses/bags, quilting, aprons, and just stuff), gardening, buying junk and making it do or redoing it, finding new ideas in books, magazines and blogs.

The Amazing Properties of Wool
I think I could sing and shear a few sheep at the same time. Robert Plant I have been wet felting in the last few weeks, trying to perfect the thickness and shapes of small vessels. It has been a labor of love. Sometimes, they are fuzzier than I would like- but I learn. Sometimes, the silk...
nice block. :>)
Eight to go
Yesterday was a parenting fail. I feel like acknowledging that because I don't want you to think it's all rainbows and sunshine here. I'm human, after all. And I know that we all have those days. Well, I know that I do. And if you don't, then please tell me your secret. I could use some help f...
i'm not sure i like messin with what is or what's not my life. no sister here, just had a annoying older brother. would a sister have been annoying also or would she have sewed, crafted and loved quilting(and life)? :>}
Three Days to Go!
I've been reading through all the entries in the "Sisters" competition- and I love them all! This is going to be very hard to judge. Just a reminder- you have until Friday to get your entry in, if you haven't already. Here's a pic of the Gift Quilt- three patterns for this quilt will be giv...

Crewel Summer
I forgot just how soothing hand stitching can be. I bought the pattern a few weeks ago before Fatty and I went to New York and immediately transferred it to a fat quarter of aqua quilting cotton. (I didn't mention that, did I? New York? It was a quick and fun trip - one of our favorite places ...
LOVE this. and to Jodie, might make a maternity top too!! :>)
This skirt could be a wardrobe staple
Fatty and I are back from a little vay-cay. It was so nice to step away for a week, spend time with my husband and my parents, eat great food, see great sights, and sleep in. I needed that. Right before I left, I made this skirt. And when I say right before, I mean the day prior to leaving wh...
nice scrap project.it would be nice to spruce up the plastic bag thing but let's make market bags from scraps too! working on using up scraps also, i'm thinking it's impossible, i'm on 2nd king-sized string quilt. :>)
A small patchwork gift
Thank you for the quilt love. And thank you for cheering me on along the way! I felt so relieved to finally finish and then show and tell that I temporarily forgot my manners. I appreciate all your thoughtful comments throughout this whole process. There is no doubt that you all helped me stay f...
love the dainty prints with the raffia color. i'm working on a spiderweb quilt, wondering from the begining how to quilt it. your circles would work perfectly, a light bulb moment. it must take courage to make matching quilts, the boring factor i mean. mom-made with love times two!! :>)
Kate's single girl quilts
Here they are! Finally finished! I'm not going to lie to you. These quilts were not an easy project. And like most things that I really want to make and that I find tedious, I sure did take my sweet time - 3 years, give or take a month. So when I started on these, Kate was 6 and now she is 9. I...

I'm Giving Away a Quilt!...
To celebrate my good fortune of being a Guest Blogger once again over at Sew We Quilt/Stash Manicure, I have decided to give away my Picnic Quilt! This vintage quilt was actually pieced from an antique quilt and newer fabrics. I purchased it as a quilt top/flimsy and it was one of m...

I could tell you
I could tell you about how the sun is shining and the temperature is rising and how much I like spring this year. I could tell you about the nine month old refrigerator leaking water and feeling really lucky that someone noticed right away. And that there was no damage to my floors. And that my ...
hate to disappoint, but you cannot sew your ass off. happy to hear you had the girlfriend weekend, that's always good for the soul. hope you post garden progress, i need inspiration there also. i'm trying to get 3 quilt tops completed and ready for quilting, BEFORE spring really gets here. basketball games to watch (go cards!) green beer to drink, and wait for the garden to dry out.
Home from Charleston
I slipped away with girlfriends for a few days and came home to a missed family, a clean kitchen, one quilt ready for binding and another ready for quilting. I'm going to ease into this week, exercise, grocery shop, sew my ass off and start the garden. You?
i'm fearful the inner tube would make my butt look big. oh how i wish i was that girl who looked divine with a long flowing jeans gown. that birdcage seems a little breezy for my taste.
What should I wear today?
Maybe a dress made from blue jeans? Or maybe one that was upcycled from inner tubes? Or maybe I'll just stick with my favorite bird cage ballgown. So many fun things to wear...so few opportunities to wear them. Hope you find something fun in your closet today! Happy Monday! Calamity Kim
that yellow looks lovely. i've been thinking about using a kona green for a background in a quilt (maybe a dresden plate) but now i'm thinkin....YELLOW. and oh the fabrics are wonderful. what year was that made? yes, we need to make do. your list is getting longer.
Spring cleaning
I spent the majority of yesterday (more than 6 hours) trashing out the girls' rooms. They helped. They also whined quite a bit about it. And I just stood my ground and got it done. In the end, everyone was happy. There are bags and bags of clothes and toys to donate and another four laundry ...
i love Beyond the Sea. i wish i was that girl (old lady) that could wear such a beautiful piece of art. go, create,be happy!!!! :>)
The Story of Recycled Moon Clothing and How It Came To Be
The days are flying. Each week is coming and going, quickly, like a runaway train. I stand at the platform and look back on the last seven days and wonder what happened. I think of things I want to write about but, am so tired at night, I don't have the energy to sit at the computer and put the...

new book to read, originally uploaded by calamity kim. Have you ever bought a book that you want to read so badly that you just can't wait to dive into it? I don't have the time to do it justice but: In my imaginary reading room filled with comfy, cozy couches and big overstuffed chairs I c...
your nest is amazing. i'm not sure how you created it, but its a wow! i've been looking for small quilt ideas for my front door, "bless this nest" could be a great theme for spring. i know, i know weather stinks right now but the birds know spring is just around the corner. :>)
Riding the creative wave
There are moments when I feel like I need to create right then. Unfortunately, it's not entirely possible or practical to give in to those whims all the time. The other night, however, after working on auction projects for many hours, I gave in to my desire to make. I quickly gathered a pile...
lovely colors and combos. i made this style scarf from flannel for around the house (actually anywhere I might go), very cozy.
The figure eight scarf
That Anna Maria. She knows what's good. And this scarf pattern of hers, in that yummy velveteen and voile of hers, is pretty dang great. I made 6 of these as gifts. I went ahead and bought the kits from Anna's website so I could have a variety of colors. I even swapped linings on two of them ...

Post Atomic Letdown Syndrome
So after months of working on things to sell and wondering if people would like them, or love them, pay good money for them, I finally found out the answer is yes! This was my 4th Atomic Holiday Bazaar and I was not disappointed. In fact I think it totally exceeded any expectations I may have he...

The Future Lies in The Past or Spinning Funky Fiber to Flabbergast Friends
Learning to spin is like being suddenly transported to a new and foreign country where you aren't really sure of the customs or traditions and you damn sure don't speak the same language. At first it was totally uncomfortable and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do it. You do realize th...
